This weekend will see the third running of the Turkish Grand Prix, held at the Istanbul Park Circuit in Istanbul.
The venue has hosted both Turkish Grands Prix to date.
The event has seen Kimi Raikkonen dominate for McLaren-Mercedes in 2005, and in 2006, a safety car aided Felipe Massa's inaugural Grand Prix victory.
The 2006 event also saw a controversial podium ceremony, where the winner's trophy was presented by some one who claimed to be president of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, a state that is only recognised by Turkey.
The FIA deemed that race organisers had brought into disrepute the FIA's political-neutral status, and a $5m fine was imposed.
The Track:
The Istanbul Park Circuit was designed by Hermann Tilke to comply to FIA standards, and was surprisingly well-liked by drivers and fans alike, mostly due to the undulation change and superb turn 8 sequence.
The circuit is 5.34km long, and mixes slow hairpins and chicanes with fast, sweeping corners.
The event is usualy met by warm, humid conditions, and the demanding turn 8 means that Bridgestone will bring its medium and hard compounds.

relaxing break with my family. In the end it was a disappointing weekend for me
in Hungary because we showed a lot of potential in practice and early in
qualifying, especially when I was 3rd in Q2, but we did not get the result we
hoped for. We need to work hard to improve. The Istanbul track is obviously
relatively new and it’s most unique feature is Turn 8, which is a tough corner.
It is a long left-hander made up of three corners which makes it a quick and
very challenging part of the track. I am looking forward to the weekend and I
hope we can get a decent result because we have shown if everything goes well,
our car is capable of scoring points. I am aiming to keep up my good record of
qualifying in the top 10 and then hopefully I can score points again.”
