Lots of retirements and unknowns this year.
There's also the fact that NSW with a new coach that no-one seems to know which way he'll go.

Possible/probable Qld Team

Slater
Gagai
Chambers
Inglis
Oates/Holmes
Munster
Cherry-Evans
Arrow
Cooper
Kafusi
Scott
McCullough
Napa

Hunt
Hess
Wallace
Papali

I am a NSW fan and have no problem with Billy getting the award, he had the biggest impact on the series and regardless of only playing 2 games was easily the best player of the series.

I think the perceived problem probably lies in the fact that so many New South Welshman had good games in all three matches and probably took points away from each other, whereas Billy had two good games so he top scored.
That being said, I still think DCE was better than him last night.

Their "memories" are actually written down and handed to an NRL official after each match. One doesn't know what the other has done as they sign a confidentiality agreement. The NRL official then simply does the maths. I also think that NSW had a number of players who probably took points off each other with that format.

I've seen and read all that, and still completely disagree.
Slater says he takes the criticism with a pinch of salt, now I take the award with a pinch of salt.

So are you questioning the credentials of Meninga, Daley and Lockyer or are you questioning the system?
May I remind you of Paul Gallen being awarded the medal in 2014?

Didn't Slater only play two games? One of them his team lost? Just confirming...

They should have given him a different award, but not that.

I watch the game from afar...but IMO giving the award to slater didn't help the game's image one bit

Daly was pretty confident all week and took control of things right from the first session.
I knew he'd do well. In fact I think (and yes I'm biassed } he would have gone very close to MoM.
Hunt went much better as he wasn't the leader. He's an excellent number 2 for attacking decisions but isn't quite there for outright leadership.
skaifeman Posted - 12 Jul 2018 : 09:36:25
Well done to your man DCE, LG. Played a very, very good game. And it really worked with Hunt at 9 too.
I knew QLD wouldn't let us have that last one, not at Suncorp and not with Billy's last game.

Next year will be a fantastic series.

One gripe... Slater player of the series... missing game one may have helped his cause because it showed how much they missed him.
Tedesco or Cook would be my pick. Seems the selectors have short memories.

Yeah I don't understand the Prior/Sims change.
skaifeman Posted - 02 Jul 2018 : 11:26:05
That's exactly whats happened:
https://www.nrl.com/news/2018/07/02/cherry-evans-in-new-look-queensland-maroons-team-for-state-of-origin-iii/
Looking forward, I'd probably be holding Gagai in the centres for next year with Chambers out.

Matt Prior has been hard done by I think, losing his spot to Tariq Sims, and even if Cordner pulls out, Ryan James will play.

Legendary Gerry Posted - 02 Jul 2018 : 09:53:45
He was pretty pumped last night. I just hope he (and the rest of the guys) have a good game now.
It might just put an end to a lot of the untrue crap he cops.

There's talk of Gagai to the centre with Oates on the wing but I can't confirm that yet.

Good luck to him. The team does look a little more dangerous with Hunt at #14, who will have impact for McCullough.
