The Phase IV was not. You don't see anyone going around claiming to be racing one of them.

That'd perhaps be the Bill Bourke Special.. I only point that out as the Bill Brown XW and XY weren't that special when he was finished with them....

Seriously though, you've hit on the crux of my beef with it. Sure, Moffat's Trans-Am car wasn't a proper Boss Mustang, but that's not why it was special anyway... but dragging up the Phase IV brand is unnecessary in this case: it's an XA GT, racing in a Clayton's Historic category - it's not based on the rules under which the cars would've originally raced. It'll ad some variation into calender.

Yes you are right he only designs them and dose not actually build them.
There are 23 replies, with the last one on 09 Mar 2010 at 18:22:21 by Nafe
Quote:
It is often qouted that v8supercars as they have been going back to 93 is the longest a touring car formula has existed and thrived in the country and i really do think thatthis is due to the commercial management of the sport. It was definately snowballing already by 97 in popularity and IMG...then SEL/AVESCO most definately have and continue to make it commercially viable within its current business model.

I think that if the sport had seen similar sort of commercial management in the past then its likely we may still have had group c today alive and well.

At alot of australian rounds i remember larger attendences then v8's so there definately wasnt anything fundamentaly wrong with the series apart from its business model. Thats where V8's through its management has really trumped every other motorsport series in australia and for that they are to be applauded.

But when decisions are being made now that detrimentally effect the sport to its core, such as running rounds in arabia, sanction fees that are so high circuits refuse to pay them and lose the round, general admission is out of reach of the every day punter etc, project blueprint, car of tomorrow etc then its time to start asking questions and standing up saying hang on...where are we going with this sport. Its become a busines first and formost now and a sport second.....in time thats going to come back to bite them.

That is why its important that journalists like this exist to expose some of the questionable info we(punters/government) are fed through the skilled marketing side of VESA.
