Oh well, that's what you get for rebadging a deawoo instead of an opel.
Hard to say anything positive about it. |
Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.

| Saw this on the news. They said they tested it at 60kph crash, the car looked majorly smashed, quite surprised actually. |

Yep, it seems Holden has put the bottom line ahead of occupant safety and not just by a small margin either... |

Guess I should have know by the way you parked your car sideways that it wouldn't last |

The strange thing is you couldn't give them away when they had Daewoo badges on them , but now that they have Holden badges people buy them . Go figure ! |

Yeah, does anyone know how the sales are? Compared with the old 'Opel' Barina... The new one looks a lot uglier and can easily tell its Korean/Japenese.

Seems to be the choice of rental car companies and city councils. Mind you I can imagine Waitakere City Council are going to be spewing after that came out, according to some documents I found while looking for that article, they based their Barina fleet purchase on their own emphasis on a minimum 4* safety rating, economy, and local supply, of course they would have based their decision on the old 4 star rating from the Opel incarnate :)
It's a pity, I was given a 2004 Barina on a trip to Wellington last year, and it cost $35 for the week in fuel, and I did some serious miles in it, too; both urban and open road. Its sad to think Holden have gone this way purely on price.

Similar situation to the Festiva, back in those days nobody would touch a Kia yet the Festy sold pretty well. |

Yeah , thats a fair comment , although I dont think the Festiva sold as well as the Barina has been .
The Barina was down from around 1300 units to about 850 last month . I wonder if it was due to the negative press ? Holden say it was a supply problem that has now been sorted , so next months figures will be interesting . |

On the news tonight the NZ Consumers Institute were calling for Holden to withdraw this Barina from sale in NZ because of this. Holden NZ are saying 'no way' and are standing by their claim that the test results were based on a single test, and was of a different nature than the tests performed on the 4 star Spanish model.

Wow, and I get bagged for saying that holden are more worried about profits than public and consumer safety?
So if they do another test, and it comes out the same or there-abouts, are they going to concede and withdraw it from the market? Yeah right... |

How typical to find you of all people bagging Holden. You hate holden more than I hate Ambrose.
If consumers want safety then they'd buy a different car. Personally, I'd go for a Tank. If consumers want a car packed with features on a very cheap budget then they'd look at this. If people aren't willing to spend a decent amount of money then their options are limited, such is life. Personally, if i had 14 grand I'd buy a Bigger car ... but used because I'd prefer to be driving around something that doesn't crumple. You can't crucify Holden for selling this car afterall, they're selling it to a budget. If people want more, they have to $$$ pay for it.

Mate, there's heaps of small cars out there with better safety ratings, more features and better styling for less money... all this is, is holdens hocking off a bunch of crappy little Daewoos that would otherwise be crushed safely; they have a surplus of these things, and rather than just cutting their losses and doing the right thing, or even better for them, re-equiping them to make them safer... they'd rather pump them out into the public regardless of whether they're a death trap or not...
It was a similar thing with the VT's, they were pumping out more than their production quota, and sacrificed safety and build quality as a result...

Of course I hate holden, there's no reason for me to like them... My previous statement is testament to that. I personally reckon they're shamelessly putting people's lives at risk for profits even though they've been asked officially not to, they must be terrible if the government don't even want them on the road...
Small cars are one of the most unsafe things on the road at the best of times, why make them worse? |
