Volkswagen have announced they will build Formula 3 engines, and the first will debut this year in the F3 Euroseries at the Nurburgring round in September. The engine however is being developed by Spiess who have previously been involved with the Opel engines.
One team (the only non Mercedes powered car in Euroseries) have signed on to run the engines in 2008. Customers will be able to purchase the VW engine in 2009
In the past VW had success in German F3 with Michael Schumacher
It will be very interesting to see how the engines go and at what price they are sold for. I hope they can counter the Mercedes onslaught. Mercedes have won every race in British F3 and Euroseries this year.
