NASCAR-style trucks could be racing in their own Australian series as soon as next year.

Six of the 1200kg, 500bhp, purpose-built ‘OzTrucks’ are already in the country, with Fujitsu V8 Supercars team owner Wayne Miles among those to have imported a vehicle from the United States.

Since the first example was imported last year, the trucks have raced in a variety of classes, including in the AASA-sanctioned iRace series.

Category spokesman Graham Struber told Speedcafe.com that a recent CAMS decision will help the class expand in the future.

“We can see it growing through iRace,” said Struber of the category’s future.

“We’d love to have our own class within the iRace series, and iRace are very supportive of that.

“Now that the cars have been accepted as a (CAMS) Group 3D car in New South Wales, owners have the options to run in CAMS races as a Sports Sedan in New South Wales.

“We hope that’ll be taken on board Australia-wide.

“Eventually what we’d like to do is become the most professional amateur-level motorsport in the country.”

I don't see this going anywhere.

We already have too many classes in Australian racing, we already have a series for utes, and where is the demand for driving oval-based 'trucks' on road coarses??

They are impressive machines.

I have looked over the Miles Racing one.
Wayne said they are about 2 seconds off the pace of a v8 round QR..

Didn't they already do something like this with normal stock cars in the 90's? And didn't that series fail after a decade or so.

Sorry... I can't see this getting above 10 cars or lasting more than 2 dwindling years.

If they use 9,500rpm proper NASCAR engines then it will be awesome - but they won't be anything remotely close to the quality - hence they will not be anything like the Camping World Trucks and will be oh so dissapointing.

Also - The CWTS haven't raced on road courses for a long, long time.

Why dont they ****ing fix the two ovals we have in this country - then this will be relevant - all I can see this being is just another low numbered category like half of the shannons series

Yes please.

As a former Thunderdome volunteer marshal there are many of us waiting for Bob Jane or someone else to start work on Calder & AIR(unlikely though).
