Don't let's get ahead of ourselves. Life under Abbott may never come - and if he continues making bad judgements based on pure political expediency, it won't. Making decisions - or backflipping on decisions just because it may win you electoral support has a lot to do with why Julia Gillard and the ALP find themselves so on the nose with voters. Julia Gillard keeps telling us she is "doing what is right for Australia, not what might be popular", but a quick look at her growing list of bad calls and backflips shows her main motivation is trying to be electorally popular. The electorate has seen through that, and is seeing through Abbott for the same reasons. September 14 will be Australia deciding on the least worst, and despite the Coalition riding way above Labor in the polls at the moment, we'll see things close up if Abbott keeps getting things wrong. Having said that, this idea of boosting electoral funding - particularly a few months out from an election was a bad idea for both sides. Labor shouldn't have brought it on, the Opposition shouldn't have supported it, and having supported it, Abbott made things worse by backing up when Surprise, surprise - Coalition MPs worked out that their electorates didn't like it.

Surely we can do better than a choice between Abbott or Gillard leading the country, and also do better than having a choice of Swan or Hockey handling the nation's finances - or having 'Albo' or Christopher Pyne being our choices of "leading Government business in the House".

LNP is going to give us tech that is already out of date, never mind 10 years down the track.

Wireless will never ever beat fibre for speed, reliability and cost. Unless Abbott can change the laws of physics?

Funny isn't it, you posted a similar thing in 2007 saying how we had the choice of Rudd and Nelson. We both thought politics couldn't get much lower, then.

Ford fans be proud. History of Australian motor racing shows Ford has been and will always be superior. They have to slow them down when they get serious about racing. The Phase 4 scared the **** out of people, they banned it. Sierra gets called on a technicality, Falcon EF "...had its wings clipped to make Holden part of the show", AU not allowed to show it's potential, Falcon BF gets clipped. Mustang Is so good Supercars made up a rule and gets a bag of cement in the roof, and it still wins.

We can do better and if some one gave us an alternative that was worthy i'm sure you'd see a massive decline in both the Labor and Liberal support.
BTW i'm not talking about the Greens either
So much so that I think it would only be the rusted on types that would still follow the trash

I don't remember posting that, but it's quite probable. Probably in 2008 if I did. History has since proved neither were good leaders, although after a few years of Abbott as Libs leader, Brendan Nelson looks a lot better with hindsight.

The song "Julia" written by Lennon and McCartney starts like this:-

But I say it just to reach you, Julia"

Interesting how you consider that of topic Col when it is about our Supreme Leader and the words which come out of her mouth.

If today's newspoll is replicated in the upcoming election, only Rudd out of all the Labor MPs in the state will hold his seat

To respond to Bruce in the NRL thread: it is probably the single hardest loss I have had to deal with at Souths to lose Bully. Much worse than Sam Burgess as he didn't symbolise Souths as Bully did. I think a lot will underestimate just how much a loss he will be to Souths but I fully understand how engrossed he is with NZ and I think given that he will make the successful transition that others haven't.

And just when you thought we couldn't get the perfect set of three, there is this: http://www.theaustralian.com.au/national-affairs/kevin-rudd-calls-for-discipline-in-labor-telling-mps-to-pull-their-heads-in/story-fn59niix-1226657539236

Current polling (those ones that come and go - but that keep telling the same story for Labor) say that if an election was held now, the only Labor MP left in Queensland would be Kevin Rudd. That's enough to make Wayne Swan choke on his newspaper.

And by god......the way Rudd tore "the Stop the boats" big lie up earlier in the week and showed it for what it is.....we really need him back!

That's great, it starts with an earthquake
