Who elected this clown?

Around 0.5% of voters - the really dumb ones.

I'm included in that 0.5%

Instead of a dysfunctional government, we now have a dysfunctional senate, which should make things very interesting.

Simple really, they have over committed their debt and are looking for the taxpayers to bail them out, well **** them, harden the **** up and stop spending your money on **** you don't 'need'

'benefits'? You make it sound like it is welfare. It is not. It is a workplace entitlement just like annual leave to acknowledge and reward young women who enter the workforce and especially those who attain professional jobs.

To respond to Bruce in the NRL thread: it is probably the single hardest loss I have had to deal with at Souths to lose Bully. Much worse than Sam Burgess as he didn't symbolise Souths as Bully did. I think a lot will underestimate just how much a loss he will be to Souths but I fully understand how engrossed he is with NZ and I think given that he will make the successful transition that others haven't.

Voted for the first time on Saturday (I'm 18) and I've gotta say that damn Senate paper is stupid! Massive wide piece of paper that would suit well for a windscreen banner.

The big winner was Palmer. At least now Abbott has someone to make him look articulate.

Titanic 2. I think Australia will regret the next 3 years with Tony and some donkey vote senators and look back on Rudd/Gillard with fondness.

Well, I dint vote for either and according to Tony i wasted my vote, no problems, next time the 'other lot' will gain even more ground!!

I am now looking forward to how Tony will fix everything like he has promised too!

Tony didn't win the election, he got it by default, Zac is right, Labors lot where so on the nose, their mothers didn't even vote for them!!

I am glad its over for now, they all make me want to vomit!!

New Commodore Hey! So you used your own money? Would you like to buy a used bridge?

gotta say as someone who was counting the votes on Sat that the Labor lot were generally an unimaginative bunch... don't know if it was the same around the country but where I was the green slip had 12 names and Labor was the bottom one... so what did the Labor voters do in general? yup... no 1 at the bottom and reversed straight up to the top... no thought given whatsoever to who they were voting for at all... they were lucky to get what little they got with that brainless way of doing things.

No-one is talking about loud-mouthed Mrs Negative Toxic Mirabella, looks she is going to be the only person going against the National trend of voting a LNP Government in, and she is one of Tony's front benchers, it is unlikely she will hold her blue ribbon seat, what would turn the local against her so much - LOL

Ah I see socialism is still alive. Trev have you ever stopped to think that people who earn good money got off their arse to improve themselves and work very hard for it. Every person in this country has the opportunity to improve their lot, some do, others don't. I am not wealthy, but I do earn a reasonable salary. But I had to improve myself, and move to different parts of the country to achieve what I have and if people like you want to hate me for it then that's your problem not mine. I am very happy that the previous toxic labor government was given the boot, and I firmly believe that the new government will make our country a better place.

It's a question of programmatic specificity. Why would CP (or anyone) vote for a candidate like that? Probably because CP had no idea who or what the AMEP is - or stood for. Come to think of it, I don't think the candidate knows either.

Yeah, it was that too. We don't know that she's made it yet - do we? Not even with a massive 1.25% of the vote.

The new Senate is going to be a real loony-bin once it finally gets to sit sometime later next year.
