To respond to Bruce in the NRL thread: it is probably the single hardest loss I have had to deal with at Souths to lose Bully. Much worse than Sam Burgess as he didn't symbolise Souths as Bully did. I think a lot will underestimate just how much a loss he will be to Souths but I fully understand how engrossed he is with NZ and I think given that he will make the successful transition that others haven't.

Made my day when I heard about Mirabella.

Massive feeling of schadenfreude when I heard the news.

must say I pumped the air, Sophie USED to hold a neighboring seat to us.

We had some like minded friends pop in on their way back to Queensland yesterday, it was great to celebrate such a victorious loss.

Just like once the electorate knew of the true colours of Windsor and Oakshott, Cathy McGowan will be a one term MP. She is way too of a progressive thinker for the electorate and I argue that many voters were duped into voting for her because they wanted a change from Mirabella without actually knowing what McGowan stood for - pro environmentalist, carbon tax etc.

Yeah, **** the country, it's not like we can't just find some new nature somewhere else.

Hey look, Abbott cost us $2 million just to get revenge on some people who wronged him. Wonder how much more THE TAXPAYER will pay so Abbott can get revenge?

Nothing about revenge. It is just the general clean out of PS heads that always occurs when there is a change of government.

Armstrong Siddeley Sapphire, Daimler Conquest, Rover 75 - or as we became Americanised, Chrysler Royal, Buick Roadmaster, Ford Customline, Studebaker President...

Those who don't believe climate change is real - or more to the point, that what man has done to this planet has had no effect on climate, are a dying breed - but Australia doesn't need four different new government departments (that all sprung up in the past six years) to lecture and advise us about it. In the case of Tim Flannery: He doesn't need $180,000 for a part-time position to tell us that Australia is about to disappear underwater while suffering extreme droughts. He was telling us that for free before that nice little earner was created for him.

We've got Federal and State Environment Departments, Departments of Sustainability, Water Conservation, Water and Natural Resources, etc., etc. We've got an Australian Department of Conservation for the Antarctic as well as ones for other places, and NSW has its own Department of Climate Change. They all have departments within, monitoring and investigating climate change - as well as various well-paid 'advisers' to help and advise. The various departments that the last government created were just more examples of Labor creating a bigger Public Service, and what Abbott is doing is just another example of the Coalition making the Public Service smaller. Who's right and who's wrong? Probably somewhere in between.

It sure is a good look to sack such experienced people.

Wasn't the Libs slogan about stability and experience? So they go out and destabilize everything - at a cost to the taxpayers.

Tony's policies seem to be sack and cut. No direction for the country.

What was he saying about the Carbon tax? BIG NEW TAX?

So Tony's mate in WA wants to raise the GST? But we can't tax the big polluters?

Tony: Sack, cut and take from the people.

No surprise there really. To be fair, I think WA has had the rough end of the stick when it comes to their share of the GST.

Interesting to see the new Government being so transparent with the refugee boat status.

One arrived yesterday but we aren't allowed to know that their policy isn't working, well there is a surprise

Actually, has the Abbott Government actually done anything yet? Looks like they might be like the former Ballieu Government of Victoria and do nothing, that way you can't get criticised - LOL

As I said, the government is committed to ending the 24 hour news policy of the previous government.

My read on it is that we will see a press release on immigration at the end of every week which is not such a bad thing if it lessens the attraction of coming here by boat illegally.

Anyway, certain things need to change to fix the failed policy of the previous government.
