Tony will fly to the wedding of everyone involved and claim it as parliamentary expenses.

Our PM, a real hero. He volunteers as a firefighter for a day and then takes away what the fire couldn't.

It was a twelve-hour day, and he's been a volunteer firefighter for over thirteen years. He was Deputy Captain in his RFS unit until he became Liberal leader, and is a specialist breathing apparatus operator, chainsaw operator and tanker driver. Now he's PM though, it's time he left all that to other people and concentrated on the job in hand.

I dunno....but civilian deaths in Iraq since 2003 and WMD have topped 120,000...! Kinda puts it into perspective a bit really....no?

Zac...you'd also be aware that Govt employees get paid time off to do that stuff....the cynical might add it helps a pollies profile and CV.....but as for me and speaking personally.....i just enjoy the gig and the community spirit(lifesaving that is)

So we're supposed to believe you that you do lifesaving for the community spirit but Tony doesn't do volunteer fire fighting for the same reasons. Give it a break REMY and accept what volunteering he does and has done for many years as being done in the right spirit - if it wasn't I'm sure he would have stopped after a couple of years and said, "Job done!"

For most of those thirteen years, most of us didn't know that Abbott was a volunteer in the RFS. Now that he's PM, and now that we know, I doubt that it's helping his profile, and as PM, his CV should be fine without it. Whatever we think, it's time he concentrated on his more-than-full-time job. The Davidson RFS and the RFS overall will manage without him. His work in the RFS has brought volunteer work like that to our attention though, so even if some see it as grand-standing, it's been worthwhile just for that. My support and admiration goes to all volunteers in these services, including you of course, and all in Surf Life Saving NSW.

Abbott's corny spin on the boat arrivals is a load of **** and everyone knows it, the boats were already slowing due to Rudd's policy.

Riddle me this, he prances around in a RFS uniform and ALL the media is there for the photo opportunity, now convince me he is doing it all for the right reasons - frog **** I say

BTW, I was a volunteer emergency service worker and Controller of a local Unit, I never let the media know where I was going to be so that they could be there with their camera's

Also, tell us about how HIS Government has taken away some payments for people affected by the fires, he is full of ****

Tony could of chosen to be sitting in a rocking chair knitting for PR purposes, but i think helping out on the bushfires is more worthy and commendable myself.

You probably weren't holding down a job which required media attention and security personnel

Was he helping out, was there any unauthorised 'undercover' vision released of him helping out or was it a pre-planned media event, I am betting it was the latter

I'm betting the former, since he has always done it. Now that he's more in the spotlight why is it suddenly a media beat up?

Anyway if it was actually a pre planned media event, who has it hurt?

Geez you blokes are easy to please.

Tony Abbott is the PM of this country. I would think he'd be a little more concerned with running the country rather than showing his community spirit. Even if half the photos that have shown up on social networks appear to be years old.

He's the PM FFS his place is in Canberra and after his academy award winning performances in telling how much this country is ****ed it should be his priority in fixing it.
Of maybe it was just BS after all
