A $3 billion hole and accused of hypocrisy. Not a good start for a new government. OTOH, being accused of hypocrisy by those who blew an almost $300 billion hole in the national budget in six years brings new meaning to the word 'hypocrisy'.

Like Col said: That's politicians for you.

Whether they're as bad as one another, or as bad as the previous government: I'll give them a bit more time than two months. Parliament hasn't even sat. The electorate gave Kevin 07 every chance before the wheels started falling off his wagon, and while Tony's wheels might be wobbling, none have fallen off yet.

Re "they promised fiscal maturity": I haven't heard those exact words, but I've heard something similar. So far, all Joe has done has realise that the nation has to keep running before he can implement whatever plans and policies he might have. He's got the job in front of him, and I don't know that he's up to it, especially the way things are going. Almost every bit of news on the economy has been trending downwards for the past year or two. Businesses going off-shore in ever-increasing numbers, places closing, unemployment rising, foreigners buying up the only viable businesses still in Australian hands, China's economy grinding down slowly, prices rising and the dollar still way too high. Not a good time to take over running the country.

There's a couple of good lines in there. Here's one: "Complicating things for the Abbott government is that its Labor predecessor didn't know how to say no to the business lobbies."

They want Clive to reveal his election campaign spendings as the large amount spent might be undemocratic, yet it is perfectly fine for a current MP to get "confused" and use taxpayer money for their spendings?

Makes a lot of sense that article.

We pay an Australia tax here just because they can.

This has had a huge flow on effect because we keep asking for a bigger pay cheque to keep spending, making us in less competitive.

Gittens summed it up very well when he spoke of competition between producers and consumers as well us paying what the rest of the world does.
We get ripped off for everything from ITunes to Outboard motors.
Now i'll wait for the usual Liberal apologists to say it's all about wages.
Well can they explain why Yamaha have an $8000 dollar premium on a 250Hp outboard in Australia or why Apple make us pay more for Music when it's still just a download

Tony Abbot declares war on science. Because the way nations get economic advantage is by stifling research into new technologies and innovations...

RIP the future of Australia. Weren't the Libs crying about the end of the mining boom and thus the need to cut the mining tax? Well you can forget a high tech industry taking its place now.

...or another way of looking at it:

'Financially conservative government looks at ways to rein in ballooning deficit.'

Besides, it's always the way. Labor governments increase the size of the Public Service, conservative governments bring it back down again. It was always thus, and always thus will be - and while we can pick out things like the CSIRO, the cuts are across the entire PS (excluding Defence. Labor governments tend to cut into Defence.)

Funny, they didn't care about the deficit when they gave $8B to the RBA that the RBA didn't want.

Another way to look at it is Abbott is destroying Australias future industries to appeal to some populist crap about surpluses. Typical Liberal government, no investment in schools or hospitals or infrastructure and then they cry "Labor waste" when the opposition do invest in our future.

He knows his economic vandals will be a one term government so they are rorting and cutting as much as possible. A unified Lib government is worse than a fighting Labor one.

I guess, we could see it that way Zac.... if we stick our heads in the sand around that whole "climate change is crap" thingy..... But then again....I guess it is fast becoming the time for sticking your head in the sand around scientific research....

I've called Tony Abbott , Campbell Newman on steroids quite a few times before.

It's quite clear they are from the same mean spirited narcissistic mould.

In a tax office draft that has very quietly surfaced pensioners and families living in Mobile or relocatable homes and caravans will have to pay GST on their rent of the land and or site.

These are usually the lowest of all income earners. Over a hundred thousand families will be affected

Hang your head in shame Abbott and rest of the Liberal arseholes

This is also from the same bloke. Tony Shepard who wants to increase the GST rate.

Watch this space when we have wall to wall Torries running the country.

While we're on running this place.
Hockeynomics has now added 10% to our debt.
The last lot took 6 years to get us to where it was.
Sloppy Joe has added 10% in less than 2 months
