Lol can you stick your head in the sand any deeper bundy?

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/sep/08/tony-abbott-james-ashby-claims

Pyne promised Ashby a job if he made the 'sex harassment' claims public. Of course it was politically motivated.

As for what Ashby was going through... having to act the pawn for both Abbott and Pyne would make me feel abused too.

Ashby's word? I don't know much about Ashby's word, but the little I do know is that his word is inconsistent, to put it politely. He signed affidavits and swore in court that he had never been given any payment or any other kind of offer from anyone to proceed with legal action against Peter Slipper. Now he says he was. Whichever one of those stories is true, it means the other one is not. If the 60 Minutes one is the true story, he not only lied with his first version in court, he perjured himself. That leaves some doubt in my mind about Ashby. Maybe Ashby is just as guilty as Brough. I don't know.

Admitted that he met with Ashby three times? He has made it clear since May 2012 that he had meetings with James Ashby. His recollections of those meetings have been err... somewhat variable, but these were meetings that were brief and around 2 1/2 years ago. I don't know about anyone else, but if someone asked me questions down to minute details of conversations I had 2 1/2 years ago, I'd struggle to get them dead right. I don't know how well I'd do recalling conversations in minute detail from a week ago. Christopher Pyne was umming and aahing quite a bit today. Maybe he needs a diary recording details of all conversations, just like James Ashby does/did.

OK, I'll trust you - but you're making it difficult with your 'hanging judge', automatic guilty verdicts.

I believe his argument was that his actions proceeded on the basis of this 3rd person (after Pyne and Roy) he went to see who was this Liberal QC (can't remember who) words of advice and there was no promise of payment (i.e. job) or any kind of service in exchange for putting in a complaint.

To respond to Bruce in the NRL thread: it is probably the single hardest loss I have had to deal with at Souths to lose Bully. Much worse than Sam Burgess as he didn't symbolise Souths as Bully did. I think a lot will underestimate just how much a loss he will be to Souths but I fully understand how engrossed he is with NZ and I think given that he will make the successful transition that others haven't.

Great to see the labor party PR machine in full swing with the Gillard interview with Ray Martin coinciding with her giving evidence to the royal commission.

It's now starting to make sense as to why the Liberals were so keen to get rid of Slipper.

Well she will have to if she's giving evidence before the commission.
