He only allowed the allowable amount of sexual abuse, and it's unlikely that he allowed any more sexual abuse than his predecessors allowed.

Here he is in October 2013, just a few weeks into his time as Minister for Immigration, referring to allegations of sexual abuse dating from 2008 to 2013. http://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/oct/24/claims-sexual-assault-immigration-detention

Of course, Scott Morrison wasn't the Minister during that time, but I can tell you those who were: Chris Evans, Chris Bowen, Brendan O'Connor and Tony Burke - but I'd be pretty certain they all made sure they only allowed the permitted amount of sexual abuse in detention centres.

"Unfortunately, some supporters seem to believe their mob is incapable of wrongdoing".

I never addressed what I thought of the Labor response, so you just made yourself look like a idiot as per usual (the "allowable amount of abuse" is a nice touch by you too, maybe I'll quote that elsewhere. The allowable amount is zero.)

If you noticed then the abuse claims against Morrison all relate to Nauru, you know, the place he re opened to much fanfare.

http://m.smh.com.au/federal-politics/political-news/sexual-abuse-rape-threats-alleged-by-nauru-asylum-seekers-20140929-10nlun.html

Not enough checks before rushing through his reforms? Is this what we want for welfare? An "allowable amount" of Aussie kids to be abused?

Happy Christmas, GV. Enjoy the day, relax, and try to let the anger just wash away for a day or two. Try some of these cherries, and some of these peace and good wills. They're lovely this season.

NO contraception, no dole – that’s the view of an ex-Labor Minister who believes welfare should be linked to compulsory contraception.
Gary Johns, writing in The Australian, suggests there should be “no taxpayer inducement to have children”.
The former MP who served in the Keating government admits such a measure will “undoubtedly affect strugglers, [and] … Aboriginal and Islander people in great proportions”.
“But the idea that someone can have the taxpayer, as of right, fund the choice to have a child is repugnant.”
According to Mr Johns larger families of past generations “were the result of the combination of absent contraception and the need to have many children, in order that some survive to care for parents in old age”.
But he says such conditions now don’t apply.

“Infant mortality is minuscule in all sectors of society, and the taxpayer picks up the tab for aged care.
“Potential parents of poor means, poor skills or bad character will choose to have children. So be it.
“But no one should enter parenthood while on a benefit.”
The ex-Minister claims “it is better to avoid having children until such time as parents can afford them”.
“No amount of ‘intervention’ after the fact can make up for the strife that many parents bring down on their children.”
Mr Johns goes on to cite two recent examples over Christmas.
“Both happened to be indigenous, but of course, many non-indigenous cases abound,” he says.
“The first, in Cairns, involved a single mother with nine children from five fathers.
“Better this woman had fewer children. Better men on benefits also could be prevented from having children.”
Many social media users have taken to Twitter to express their views after reading Johns’s piece.

Although the idea is left field it does have some merit.
Anyone can make a mistake and have a kid but to do it repeatedly and not have a job goes against the grain.

The welfare system is broken.

A recent example I saw over a different issue, was a woman who had 5 kids to 4 different fathers and receives social security for all of them.

Fair bet none of the fathers work either! This is far more common than you think and something needs to be done.

The Tattoo parlors wont like Scott Morrison's action, unemployed bogans make up 50% of their clientelle!

Gerry Harvey will take a hit too, who is going to be able to afford all these 65" LED telly's if the social security recipients have to justify their payments!!ha ha

You are right Em, my daughter is on disability allowance, has been since she was 15, she has been signed off by a number of doctors and specialists as being eligible for the allowance, now because she has to go through it all again because she is under 35, thanks Tony and your bunch of losers

Ha ha!

Queenslands already closed 20% of the parlours down over licensing, hit them hard on the law that you must be 18yrs old to get one too!!

Was walking past the Centrelink building in Ipswich just prior to Christmas and noticed approx 9 out of each 10 'patrons'in the queue that was out onto the footpath, mostly female with several kids hanging off them, all had rather large and obviously taxpayer funded tatts!!

Welfare is for feeding your family, not so you can beat the bogan down the road on the size of your TV, or how many tatts you can get on your body!!

Social Security needs a steel bristled broom swept through it!!

Sadly Trev, for each legitimate claim, there are many more bogus ones!!

Hopefully it weeds out some of the teenagers and/or older women that intentionally get pregnant when their relationship is in trouble or drunken one night stands.

What percentage is some?

To respond to Bruce in the NRL thread: it is probably the single hardest loss I have had to deal with at Souths to lose Bully. Much worse than Sam Burgess as he didn't symbolise Souths as Bully did. I think a lot will underestimate just how much a loss he will be to Souths but I fully understand how engrossed he is with NZ and I think given that he will make the successful transition that others haven't.

This will make all of our Queensland members happy.

Queenslanders could be going to the polls as early as this month, with Premier Campbell Newman to call a snap election as he returns from holidays today.

The poll would be held in late January or early February, almost two months earlier than expected.

The Liberal National Party (LNP) will be trying to win a second term in office after a tumultuous three years in power.

But Mr Newman faces a challenge to keep his own inner-Brisbane seat of Ashgrove, with former Labor MP Kate Jones having already confirmed that she plans to recontest the seat.

Central to Mr Newman's pitch will be an appeal to voters for certainty, with the LNP planning to privatise assets to reduce debt if it wins this election.

The LNP's public service in the wake of its 2012 election win sparked an unrelenting anti-government campaign by unions, exacerbated by the LNP's plan to privatise assets.

But the Government can also claim it has had success reining in debt, and that its contentious gang laws have led to a drop in crime.

The LNP swept to power with a landslide victory in March 2012, winning 78 out of 89 seats.

The party has since lost five MPs, with three defecting to minor parties and two quitting parliament.

Opinion polls have suggested the small ALP opposition led by Annastacia Palaszczuk is within striking distance of a remarkable comeback.

Recent polls show a significant slump in support for the LNP.

A Newspoll published in The Australian over the weekend found support was evenly split between the LNP and Labor on a two-party preferred basis.

It also found 44 per cent of those surveyed said Mr Newman would make the better premier compared to Ms Palaszczuk, on 35 per cent.

The Premier has improved his satisfaction rating which now sits at 38 per cent, up three points since September, but still just over half of those surveyed are dissatisfied with the Premier's performance.

Ms Palazczuk's satisfaction rating climbed two points to 38 per cent in the poll, which surveyed more than 1,100 people with a 3 per cent margin of error.

Katter's Australian Party holds three seats but has languished in recent opinion polls.

EDIT:

The question has to be asked though. Shouldn't Tony be here supporting the SA/Vic fires rather than gallivanting around in the Iraqi desert in a leather jacket?
