So does talking about queensland politics require its own thread these days?

To respond to Bruce in the NRL thread: it is probably the single hardest loss I have had to deal with at Souths to lose Bully. Much worse than Sam Burgess as he didn't symbolise Souths as Bully did. I think a lot will underestimate just how much a loss he will be to Souths but I fully understand how engrossed he is with NZ and I think given that he will make the successful transition that others haven't.

It's likely Newman will lose his seat, so we're discussing current problems, not ones that are soon to be fixed

I'm quietly confident Newman will get up. Qld labor are showing how superficial they are with no policies for themselves.

Most of what she said was lost on me, but I got her drift. She's way over on the conservative right, and an Islamophobe. I got that. The finer points of her tirade I'll leave to her supporters. She did bang on about the peaceful majority being irrelevant. In her words, the peaceful majority were irrelevant against the Nazis, Joe Stalin, Mao Tse Tung, pre-WWII Japan, etc. So, what should peaceful, law abiding Muslims do about crazy jihadists, who represent Islam about as much as the Ku Klux Klan represent Christianity? Try and talk to them? Use reason and logic? Invite them to attend their local mosque? Shoot them? Anyway enough of this. It's not Libs vs the ALP, general or otherwise.

Both leaders of the major parties in Qld are very lacklustre.
Anastasia Palaszczuk is the biggest drawback to the ALP just as Newman is to the Libs.
Personally I hope Newman gets the flick in the elections but the Libs still hold on to power.
For the last 3 years Palaszczuk has said nothing, done nothing to show that she or the ALP deserve another chance yet. Her predecessors, Beattie and Bligh really ****ed up the state.
Unfortunately Newman hasn't made the right moves to fix it so he needs to go!

I'm pretty sure Newman has "pulled an Abbott" in the modern lingo. Only won because the other side lost and has since comprehensively proven he has no ideas or answers of his own.

I'd support the ALP in QLD if they had a strong leader, but both sides are so weak this isn't much of a choice.

Calling an election with such a short lead-up?

Cut-off to register is today!!

There must be something really really bad brewing on the horizon for the QLD LNP that they have to get the election out of the way before the **** hits the fan!!

I've met and spoken with her on a few occasions, even before she was the leader and nothing about her (as a politician) impressed me.

All good, but around 2:50 is just for Queenslanders.

That's gold.

On the Queensland election, the odds of Newman holding his seat are shortening every day this campaign goes on.
