'Junior staffer shouts rude word at PM.' The Herald catering to its diminishing audience. You can find better material on Crikey, The Drum or The Guardian, surely. I know I can.

Such bitterness. Weren't the Libs trumpeting "no more ALP infighting" a while back? Pot meet kettle.

...and you're talking about an employee and not another politician.

All this hate and loathing for Tony Abbott, and the many hundreds of posts about him, when the only person I can think of on here who had the opportunity to vote/not vote for him was REM. At least it helped convince REM. I wasn't in the polling booth when he marked his ballot paper, but I'm pretty sure that REM didn't vote for Tony.

PS: At the 2013 election, the Greens had a swing to them, and most of us had other alternatives to vote for. There were over 50 political parties other than Liberal, Labor, Nationals and Greens fielding hundreds of candidates across Australia as well as a few hundred independent candidates.

PPS to Trev: In your electorate at the last election, apart from Liberal, Labor and the Greens, you had the choice of voting for the Rise Up Australia Party, Family First, Katter's Australian Party, Palmer United Party, the Sex Party, Bullet Train for Australia Party and the Citizens Electoral Council, as well as an Independent.

Just between you and me Z.....I didn't even vote in 2013! Let's see what Malcolm in the middle can do......I'm fairly confident, we should see better Govt.....and Shorten will need to either step up.....or step out......

Why do we have 2 standards, why is it OK for Turnbull to "oust a sitting Prime Minister in their first term", but Gillard copped an absolute flogging for doing the same thing, and copped it for years - bloody double standards by a hypocritical pack of arseholes

5 days on and nary a whisper about Turnbull doing a Gillard

I guess she is a woman and it was seen as "unwomanly" or was it because Rupert Murdoch drove the agenda back then, or is it because the biggest toxic prick of all times (Abbott) was actually ousted

I think you'll find the circumstances were very different this time Trev.
There was a party meeting some 7 months ago where questions were raised and positions opened up.
Abbott said he'd change and asked for 6 months to show it.
He didn't change so the party made the change for him.

Because, despite all the guff posted by the Libs boys on here, most of the public liked Rudd at the time. No one like Abbott by the time he was knifed. He was a dead man walking after his spill in February. He was public enemy #1 in Australia and Turnbull finally rid us of him.

Rudd was mostly disliked by the backroom people in the ALP.

It depends on where you're listening, what you're watching and what you're reading. I'm hearing and seeing plenty. Whether it's more or less coverage or criticism than when Rudd or Gillard were "ousted"... I don't know. Possibly less, and probably because we're getting used to it - but are you referring to this forum or the news media? Like REM mentioned, they've been going ballistic on 2GB. Jones, Hadley and the rest of them there are wailing and weeping about that wonderful Mr Abbott being treated so shamefully by his own party. Kind-of painted themselves into a corner there. They still hate Labor, but now they hate the Libs about equally. Anyway, if you want to hear the Libs "cop an absolute flogging", tune into Macquarie Radio. (Who'd have thunk it? )

EDIT (after Turnbull announces new cabinet this afternoon):

BTW, my prediction is based on "after the dust settles", which most likely won't be on Tuesday. This distraction will probably stagger on in a series of steps.

They're from the 6th and 7th of February, about 7 1/2 months ago. Seven predictions in those two posts - and seven ticks. Predictions aren't that hard. For those who also tried with predictions just a few days ago: Christopher Pyne is still there. He's the new Industry Minister - and he's a fixer.

Zac is right first and foremost we vote for our own member and then if they get the numbers we help to elect the leader of that party.
My member is Andrew Laming. He spends more time belittling people on facebook than he does working for his constituents.
I voted for him when he first appeared and haven't voted for him since. He is a do nothing clown that goes along for the ride.
Self serving is an understatement.

Perhaps Gillard was seen as a less likeable character than Turnbull?

That said, I've never found Turnbull to be much of a likeable character either though.
