I thought I better get in quick with this one before LG snaps it up first

And what better way to kick of the AFL season for 2012 then to go through the draft picks of the clubs.

My team Geelong, of course, as premiers didn't get the best picks. But, courtesy of the father-son rule Jed Bews was picked up by the club and seems to be a good prospect.

What say you about your club's picks and your prospects for the coming season?

Club by club picks in yesterday's AFL national draft.

ADELAIDE

27 SAM KERRIDGE

Advertisement: Story continues below (Bendigo Pioneers, 18, 188cm, 86kg)

An onballer who loves beating opponents in one-on-one contests. Works really hard and can sneak goals while playing forward.

41 MITCH GRIGG

(Norwood, 18, 182cm, 82kg)

A big-bodied ballwinner with the best, most-penetrating kick in the draft. Not quick, but can set the play up with his left foot in a quarterback-type way.

46 NICHOLAS JOYCE

(Eagles, 18, 185cm, 79kg)

64 CAMERON ELLIS-YOLMEN

(Woodwille-West Torrens, 18, 189cm, 91kg)

Strong-bodied midfielder who has good hands inside busy packs and can take a mark.

82 MATTHEW WRIGHT

(promoted rookie)

89 AIDEN RILEY

(promoted rookie)

WHAT THE CLUB SAID

Our recruiting staff have done a fantastic job. It was difficult for us because our first pick wasn't until pick 27 so there was a little bit of wait and see. But we've got some really good, hard midfielders and that's something I was really happy about. - ADELAIDE COACH BRENTON SANDERSON

BRISBANE LIONS

8 BILLY LONGER

(Northern Knights, 18, 201cm, 98kg)

The most highly rated ruckman all year. Mobile, athletic and fast. Super smart, especially at stoppages. Comes with an off-the-field brain and leadership potential, too.

12 SAM DOCHERTY

(Gippsland Power, 18, 185cm, 83kg)

A half-back who seems made for the modern game with his ability to read the play well, get into good spots and make his disposals count. Smart, quick player who never seems to lose his head.

30 ELLIOT YEO

(East Fremantle, 18, 189cm, 76kg)

A star athlete who did well in most tests at the draft combine. Loves to run and carry from defence, has some pace and uses both feet to kick.

47 PATRICK WEARDEN

(Murray Bushrangers, 18, 191cm, 74kg)

A marking forward, who is quick and can go and go again. A long, solid kick.

69 MITCHELL GOLBY

(promoted rookie)

WHAT THE CLUB SAID

We've added in all different areas of the ground. We've done probably better than we thought we would. - Recruiting manager ROB KERR

CARLTON

22 JOSH BOOTSMA

(South Fremantle, 18, 190cm, 74kg)

Son of former Fremantle player Brad. A defender who likes to use his pace to rebound out of the trouble. Honest, too, and will focus on getting the spoil in before taking off.

44 SAM ROWE

(Norwood, 24)

62 DYLAN BUCKLEY

(father-son) (Northern Knights, 18, 176cm, 69kg)

Small, but skilful. Missed most of the year through injury but has been on the Blues' radar forever. Likes to run, link up and get the play moving forward.

WHAT THE CLUB SAID

Joshua Bootsma didn't play a lot of footy last year but he shows great athleticism and he can play at half-back and through the midfield. We went for Sam Rowe at the next pick, he's a 23-year-old centre half-forward or full-forward who's played senior football. So we've probably gone for more a mature-age type there, like we did last year with Nick Duigan. We were pretty lucky to get Dylan Buckley at pick 62 and we think he will add to our midfield over the year. We've got a good mix.- CARLTON COACH BRETT RATTEN

COLLINGWOOD

50 JACKSON PAINE

(Eastern Ranges, 18, 191cm, 92kg)

Big, strong-bodied player who can play either forward or back. Hits contests hard and if he can't mark, is intent on causing a spill.

65 COREY GAULT

(Swan Districts, 18, 198cm, 87kg)

Developing ruck prospect who'll need time but has plenty of athletic potential.

67 JARROD WITTS

(scholarship promotion) (Sydney Uni, 19, 209cm, 113kg)

WHAT THE CLUB SAID

I think in a sense, a lot of our work had already been done before we got here and we really had an eye on the taller players without being silly about it. - National recruiting manager DEREK HINE

ESSENDON

19 ELLIOTT KAVANAGH

(Western Jets, 18, 185cm, 75kg)

This year's mystery man, having played just a few games due to hamstring issues. A smart, natural onballer who wins the ball both inside and out and has some of the best skills in the draft. Takes marks and makes smart decisions.

31 JACKSON MERRETT

(Geelong Falcons, 18, 183cm, 72kg)

Gets in good spots to get the ball, and with his willingness to run and carry the ball could become a damaging half-back in time.

59 NICK O'BRIEN

(North Ballarat Rebels, 18, 188cm, 91kg)

Has a build that's seen him compared to Cameron Ling. Big, but a real workhorse and as honest as they come - will give everything. Has amazing endurance for his size, which makes his midfield potential interesting.

75 STEWART CRAMERI

(promoted rookie)

WHAT THE CLUB SAID

Elliott [Kavanagh] is a dynamic winger with a lot of creativity, speed and endurance and he uses the ball extremely well. - Recruiting manager ADRIAN DODORO

FREMANTLE

16 TOM SHERIDAN

(Calder Cannons, 17, 185cm, 76kg)

Inside midfielder who loves to use his hands and dig the ball out to others. Unobtrusive in that way, but has exceptional endurance and a diligent attitude.

20 HAYDEN CROZIER

(Eastern Ranges, 17, 185cm, 68kg)

Energetic, high leaper who looks at home on the half-forward line. Flies for his marks and takes plenty of them. Has also been learning how to play as a running backman.

29 ALEX FORSTER

(Norwood, 18, 189cm, 77kg)

An All-Australian under-18 defender, whose calm mind and clean hands helped his team out over and over again. A defender who kicks nicely on both feet and looks at home in defence.

58 LACHIE NEALE

(Glenelg, 18, 177cm, 77kg)

71 CAMERON SUTCLIFFE

(Woodville-West Torrens, 19, 187cm, 81kg)

72 PASS

83 NICK LOWER

(promoted rookie)

WHAT THE CLUB SAID

We're really happy with our group We'll get Zac Dawson in the pre-season draft. - List manager BRAD LLOYD

GEELONG

32 JOEL HAMLING

(Claremont, 18, 194cm, 80kg)

Extremely skinny forward who needs time to build a body but plays with some natural creativity. Has also looked good back.

34 SHANE KERSTEN

(South Fremantle, 18, 190cm, 92kg)

Big, powerful forward who takes plenty of marks and loves to belt the ball forward. Can kick bags of goals. Probably not tall enough to play key position at AFL level, but will be hard to match up on in a second or third role.

48 JORDAN MURDOCH

(Glenelg, 19, 190cm, 80kg)

A forward with some midfield potential who developed quickly playing as an over-age player for the SA under-18s. Has some speed and is nimble.

66 LINCOLN McCARTHY

(Glenelg, 18, 177cm, 79kg)

78 ORREN STEPHENSON

(Nth Ballarat, 29)

86 JED BEWS

(father-son) (Geelong Falcons, 17, 182cm, 78kg)

Raw, but talented half-back/wingman. Runs well and could develop into a link-up player running out of defence.

WHAT THE CLUB SAID

We went for a little bit of a mix We think Orren Stephenson could have played AFL footy in the last couple of years. - Coach CHRIS SCOTT

GOLD COAST

24 HENRY SCHADE

(North Hobart, 18, 196cm, 80kg)

Tall defender, who also likes to run. Loves a one on one battle with a forward and uses the ball nicely.

80 ALIK MAGIN

(promoted rookie)

88 ALEX SEXTON

(local talent selection) (Redland, 17, 185, 71kg)

91 JACKSON ALLEN

(local talent selection) (Morningside, 18, 179cm, 78kg)

Smart half-back, who reads the play well, chops the ball off and uses it well in a rebounding role.

WHAT THE CLUB SAID

We were really keen to get a tall defender to start developing and we're rapt to bring in [Henry Schade]. - List manager SCOTT CLAYTON

GREATER WESTERN SYDNEY

1 JONATHON PATTON

(Eastern Ranges, 18, 197cm, 101kg)

Strong, natural forward who lived with a lot of hype all year and stood up to it. Thinks a second ahead of others, which meant he was hard to catch on the lead. Takes mark after mark after mark, and has plenty of agility too. One of the best, most complete tall forwards to have come through the system in years.

2 STEPHEN CONIGLIO

(Swan District, 17, 182cm, 82kg)

The most complete and celebrated midfielder in the draft. Gets the footy, dances around with it, can kick multiple goals and tackles opponents when he doesn't have it. Ready to go.

3 DOM TYSON

(Oakleigh Chargers, 18, 186cm, 80kg)

A footballer, pure and simple. Not super quick, not an endurance athlete, but has brain power others lack. He gets to the ball first, gets into good spots first, and brings his teammates into the game. Will make the absolute most of himself.

4 WILL HOSKIN-ELLIOTT

(Western Jets, 18, 186cm, 73kg)

A player who genuinely takes the game on, is inventive and who can break up patches of play by grabbing a handball and taking off. Tall, quick, with exceptional endurance and starting to figure out how good he could be.

5 MATTHEW BUNTINE

(Dandenong Stingrays, 18, 189cm, 84kg)

The one who, when things are somewhat chaotic in defence, will restore order. Reads the play brilliantly, wins contests, and makes sure his teammates are where they're meant to be. A future leader.

7 NICK HAYNES

(Dandenong Stingrays, 19, 192cm, 78kg)

Played as an over-ager this year and got better by the week. Throws himself at the ball while it's in the air and can clunk a mark against the run of play. Has all the athletic qualities to become a good player either forward, in defence, or even around the middle.

9 ADAM TOMLINSON (Oakleigh Chargers, 18, 193cm, 88kg)

Versatile player who'll often start forward then go back to do a specific job, or vice-versa. As a backman, can really knuckle down. As a forward, runs exceptionally hard and just keeps presenting.

10 LIAM SUMNER

(Sandringham Dragons, 18, 178cm, 71kg)

Quick, creative and cheeky. As an outside, running player, uses the ball really nice, both kicking goals and creating them. Loves to tackle and puts his head over the footy when it's his turn to go and get it.

11 TOBY GREENE

(Oakleigh Chargers, 18, 181cm, 76kg)

Dedicated, focused midfielder who just keeps accumulating possessions. Has huge endurance and is willing to use it to work hard defensively. Rose rapidly up the draft charts this year and, after being left out of Vic Metro's initial squad, became its best player at the under-18 championships.

13 TAYLOR ADAMS

(Geelong Falcons, 18, 179cm, 80kg)

Robust onballer who likes to throw his body around at stoppages and relishes a contest. Averged four tackles a game at under-18 championships.

14 DEVON SMITH

(Geelong Falcons, 18, 174cm, 76kg)

Quick, attacking player who can make things happen. Can win the ball at stoppages, and also scoot away with it and kick goals. Had a great under-17 season and some good games as an under-18, despite starting the season late after hip surgery.

56 TOM DOWNIE

(North Ballarat Rebels, 18, 203cm, 94kg)

Has come from nowhere - actually, from basketball, and a potential college career in the US. Played only a couple of games for the Rebels but knew what he was doing, then tested really well at the draft combine. Ultra athletic, but may take some time.

79 SETANTA O'hAILPIN

87 JAMES McDONALD

(Old Xaverians, 35)

WHAT THE CLUB SAID

If you were Bart Cummings you would leave them in the paddock for a while and bring them out in three years. But this game doesn't allow you to do that. Some of these young guys will have to be up there ready to play next year. Picking up the senior experienced players we did, they are only going to be around for a few years so some of the young boys are going to have to step up to the plate pretty quickly. Setanta O'hAilpin was pick 79, which was James Hird's pick, so hopefully that will be a bit of Irish luck for us. - Coach KEVIN SHEEDY

HAWTHORN

33 BRADLEY HILL

(West Perth, 18, 179cm, 71kg)

Skinny wingman type, who broke the beep test record at the draft combine running 16.2. Brother of Docker Stephen. A late improver.

38 JORDAN KELLY

(Dandenong Stingrays, 18, 192cm, 81kg)

Talented defender who can be relied upon in the one-on-one contests. Kicks the ball well, always competes and lays a few tackles a game.

53 ALEX WOODWARD

(Sandringham Dragons, 18, 174cm, 80kg)

Small midfielder who plays with plenty of pace and has some of the safest skills in the draft.

77 LUKE BREUST

(promoted rookie)

WHAT THE CLUB SAID

Bradley Hill is an outstanding athlete and talented right-footer. With his speed and endurance we think he's got a lot of upside. - Recruiting manager GRAHAM WRIGHT

MELBOURNE

36 RORY TAGGERT

(Bendigo Pioneers, 18, 187cm, 85kg)

A utility who has looked good at either end. Hits the ball strongly, takes plenty of marks and plays with a sensible mind.

52 JOSH TYNAN

(Gippsland Power, 17, 186cm, 76kg)

Versatile player who took on opponents both taller and shorter than him this year and seemed to relish the challenge. Make sensible decisions and uses the ball well.

54 JAMES SELLAR

(Adelaide, 22, 196cm, 98kg)

WHAT THE CLUB SAID

[Rory Taggert] plays a bit in the style of Dustin Martin, because he's a penetrating kick and he's got clean hands. - National recruiting manager BARRY PRENDERGAST

NORTH MELBOURNE

18 BRAD McKENZIE

(Sturt, 18, 188cm, 76kg)

A left-footed onballer, who also looks at home on the half-back line. Gets into smart spots and is able to bring teammates into the play.

40 TOM CURRAN

(Oakleigh Chargers, 18, 193cm, 90kg)

Son of former Hawthorn premiership player Peter. Really hard working forward who keeps running and providing his onballers with an option. Not super quick but can grind opponents down, and takes plenty of marks.

74 LUKE DELANEY

(promoted rookie)

84 CAM PEDERSEN

(promoted rookie)

WHAT THE CLUB SAID

We asked Brad McKenzie, 'Why do you think we're here again?' And he said, 'Because you want to pick me.' - Recruiting manager BRYCE LEWIS

PORT ADELAIDE

6 CHAD WINGARD

(Sturt, 18, 182cm, 77kg)

A classy onballer, who could also help out forward or back. A brave player who puts himself into dangerous spots and takes couragous marks. Captained the SA under-18 team this year.

45 BRENDON AH CHEE

(South Fremantle, 17, 188cm, 82kg)

An onballer/forward who played one game for WA at this year's under-18s and showed a willingness to fly for marks and do something a bit different when he got the ball.

51 NATHAN BLEE

(East Perth, 21, 191cm, 84kg)

A tall defender, who can also be used on smaller opponents. His body positioning, strength and speed are his strengths.

81 PASS

WHAT THE CLUB SAID

Chad Wingard has been a top-five sort of player all season so to get him at six is a really good bonus for us. - Recruiting manager GEOFF PARKER

RICHMOND

15 BRANDON ELLIS

(Calder Cannons, 18, 181cm, 83kg)

A solid, aggressive half-back who throws himself at the ball and also is able to read the play and cut play off. Passionate player who would do anything for his team.

26 TODD ELTON

(Dandenong Stingrays, 18, 197cm, 92kg)

Has played in the ruck, but his size is better suited to the forward or back line. A very athletic player, who as a ruckman almost played as an extra onballer. Can grab low balls easily and is learning how to impose himself.

55 MATTHEW ARNOT

(Oakleigh Chargers, 18, 180cm, 87kg)

WHAT THE CLUB SAID

Brandon Ellis is one of the best kicks in the draft, which was a high priority for us. Given that, we think he'll settle into our team very, very quickly. - Recruiting manager FRANCIS JACKSON

ST KILDA

25 SEBASTIAN ROSS

(North Ballarat Rebels, 18, 187cm, 83kg)

An inside midfielder who works hard to get the ball out, but can also use it pretty well himself. A diligent player who just goes about his business. Cousin of Essendon captain Jobe Watson.

35 DANIEL MARKWORTH

(Calder Cannons, 19, 191cm, 78kg)

A bouncy, zippy half-forward, who may end up in the midfield. Plays with a lot of energy and is always on the move, trying to break up the play.

37 JACK NEWNES

(Northern Knights, 18, 184cm, 74kg)

A smart utility who has looked good playing in most parts of the ground. Uses his size well while playing those different roles, and is a nice long kick.

42 JIMMY WEBSTER

(Glenorchy, 18, 188cm, 74kg)

Running defender who likes to have the ball in his hands, and uses it neatly. His hands are really good in tight spots, too.

60 JAY LEVER

(Geelong Falcons, 18, 198cm, 83kg)

Played in the ruck for Vic Country and the Falcons, and won his share of hitouts. Importantly, also looked natural when he went forward. Knew how to position himself, then complete the mark.

68 BEAU WILKES

(West Coast, 25)

76 JASON BLAKE

(St Kilda, 30, 189cm, 90kg)

WHAT THE CLUB SAID

SYDNEY

21 TOM MITCHELL

(father-son) (Claremont, 18, 180cm, 73kg)

Loomed as a top 10 pick had the Swans not had father-son acccess (he's the son of Barry.) A midfield animal who gets to the footy ahead of most others, wins lots of it, and then uses it better than them with his brilliant left foot.

43 JORDAN LOCKYER

(West Perth, 18, 192cm, 86kg)

Son of ex-Eagle Andrew Lockyer. A very efficient, reliable defender who doesn't lose his head. Reads the game well coming out of defence.

WEST COAST

23 MURRAY NEWMAN

(Swan District, 17, 179cm, 70kg)

A small midfielder who likes to run and doesn't shy away from contests despite his size.

28 FRASER McINNES

(Perth, 18, 196cm, 93kg)

A tall forward who's also played in the ruck at times. Had an interrupted year, but has good left foot skills and reads the ball well in the air.

63 ASHTON HAMS

57 TORY DICKSON

I am loving the amount of youth being brought into the GWS team. I am expecting this year to be a pretty tough year and a very steep learning curve for most of the team.

Needless to say - go the Giants!

Been waiting 12 months for this and now have a team to support in the AFL, can't wait!

Geelong will need to play well to win back2back anyway, you might get your chance to win!

But if Geelong go good and make the grand final then watch out, I'm sure bundy can back me up with this.

Anyways good to see yah back mate, thought something might of happened to yah, because you gone for soooooo long! Glad to see your back anyways, and go Geelong!!
