Group A Classics Volume 3 is getting plenty of advertising today across social media

Looks the goods...except I can't work out which Wellington 500 we are getting. The cover has a picture of the 1986 start, yet the text says simply "1987 Wellington".... is it the January enduro or the October WTCC round?

Looks like a good watch though, especially the 1990 Mallala event with the winner I don't think anybody would have complained about that day.

So I've watched the 3 Bathurst's from the Brock box set that haven't been released until now. Bathurst '82 '83 '84.

Things that stand out:

'82. After about lap 10 in Brock's first stint, when they first cross to him but can't hear him properly, Brock pretty much talks the entire first stint in case anyone can hear him. Amazing. Lucky the mike didn't work properly, as I think he swore at Alf Grant for a bad vault. Also he did have a vibration issue in that last stint because you got his radio coming through live on air. Think Brock said "**** him" about Peter Janson too.

'84. Tuckey was right, 7 tried to cheat with this coverage. Because they cover the ad breaks, you see the action. The Grice accident was covered from an angle I've never seen before. You hear it happen and the crowds reaction. And you see Hansford rejoin the track. They missed Johnson take the lead completely, which in those days is pretty rank as there weren't lead changes like today, so it was a big event. And Johnson breaking down was flat out cheating, they saw him go to the boot to check the fuel lines!

RIP05

RIP LJ - loved and never forgotten.

"It was dry for the second go-around. Grice, nervous, worrying about his Bathurst jinx, ran 2:25.9. The amazing Brock, using every last centimetre of bitumen, yet keeping the car straight and balanced and at full noise, came back with a staggering 2:20.0 as if to say: "Match that". And people just shook their heads, bit their lips and wondered who would be second".

The Peter Brock trophy is now where it belongs.

Hopefully they release the 82, 83 and 84 races on their own sometime soon. I've already got my VHS copies & the 7sport DVD's of 78, 79, 80 & 87, not keen on a double up copy of the DVD for the sake of three new races.

What did Tuckey say about it?

The 75-85 review VHS done by Atlab shows Hansford rejoining the track after the accident (from the camera at Hell Corner pointing up Mountain Straight), but my converted from VHS copy of the 1984 race doesn't show that bit, as it seemingly happened in an ad break as you say.

I'm not sure i'd call it cheating, if something happened in an ad break they had to work out some way of including it into the broadcast in some sort of interesting way, rather than just coming out of an ad and simply saying "look what you missed". The likes of ABC and CBS in America used to do similiar things, its just the way live sport with commercial breaks was presented then.

Channel 9 used to do the same thing with their coverage of the Adelaide F1 race, even during the broadcast if a spin or crash happened off camera, they'd chuck the accident in 'as live', prompting Murray Walker to go crazy exclaiming what had happened right before his eyes.

Tuckey often gave the 7 coverage a spray, up until 1985

The whole Grice incident was poorly done. The Johnson breaking down one wasn't too bad.

I remember in the 1983 book he lifted the lid on Evan Green almost walking out mid-telecast as he wasn't getting enough air-time to do proper pit reports

I later heard from someone else that supposedly Mike Raymond had to leave the commentary box and go to the pits to sort the situation out, hence why there is a period towards the middle of the race where Wilko is talking on his own

Tuckey gives the Bathurst race as a whole a spray in general at the end of the 1983 book IIRC

The Group A cover has been updated with the correct cover art going by Chevrons Facebook post.

1990 Mallala? Was that when a brand new GTR was turned into quite a secondhand GTR?

Think you might be referring to the AGP support races of that year when Skaifey's rolled it onto the entry of the Brabham straight.

Malala 1990 was the GTR's debut in the hands of Skaifey. Qualified 3rd after problems, buggered off into the lead by miles and then had some sort of hub failure from memory and retired.

I've had a look at the 1981 DVD release. Have they stopped putting all the pre-race on the DVDs, as it cuts straight to the race start on this one (and the 1987 DVD pre-race was severely edited)?

I'm confused as to why Chevron have decided to have two Brock releases that have pretty much the same DVDs.

You have the nine wins box set and then there is the early years which has 1970 to 75 highlights, and then the 78-80 full races.

Yes KLR, the Super Touring races would be good too.

It is on Youtube, along with the support races;

I'm confused as to why Chevron have decided to have two Brock releases that have pretty much the same DVDs.

You have the nine wins box set and then there is the early years which has 1970 to 75 highlights, and then the 78-80 full races.

I'm confused and annoyed by what they have done too

For instance for anyone who has been buying each release as they come out, it is not possible (at the moment) to get the 82, 83 or 84 Bathurst races without doubling up on DVDs you already have....

Thank you very much. Trust you to know FBF. I never thought to look on YT due to type length of the race.
