I went to the MCM today at Sydney Motorsport Park and while impressed with the tin tops as usual, I was blown away by F5000!!! What a fantastic category!!! Can't wait to see more!!!

Unfortunately they don't dust off the Formula 5000's very often. But they are a great category. If only they could get Formula 3 to generate that 5L sound.

F5000s are awesome! It's such a shame they only get small fields now; I swear they had a massive field at the Grand Prix a few years ago.

Was my fifth time at MCM and always enjoy it. It's so good that the full circuit is used at MCM. The historic cars look awesome sliding across the top of and down the hill on the new section.

Was funny when they lined up the cars at the final corner for the Bathurst Grid Spectacular - the B&H Sierra wouldn't start and the SV Racing Walky overheated .

Does anyone have any info about the driver of the Cortina involved in the crash in the Group Nb Trophy race? The rescue crews had to be very careful in removing him from the car.

hey Kytabu...

spoke with the club president (I was there as I shoot for the Victorian Historic boys) and the news I got at the track was he apparently spun into a Mustang (which had itself spun) and took the hit on the drivers door...

I didn't speak with the driver or see the car as I was at the other end of the circuit when it happened but I believe he is ok... will talk with the pres again through the week and try for some updates.

sooooo many pics to sort through after such a massive weekend... weather was perfect... cars were great... crowd figures surprised me some (lower)... but tonnes of car enthusiasts made it a very worthwhile event!

lookout for pictures over the coming week as I get through them

Yeah, I saw the crash. Mustang spun from fourth place or something and everyone took avoiding action but the Cortina was just unlucky. Looked like the front-right corner was pretty well destroyed.

Was just wondering about the driver's status, thanks .

Agree about F5000s. Awesome. Spoke to some of them. The numbers were a bit down because being round 1 a few good cars werent ready. They are running at the Sandown 500 in two weeks, and they reckon there will be about 15 cars there. Think I might drive down. Never seen a Sandown 500 and the F5000s being there will make the trip double worth it.

The F5000 field was down compared to the F1 GP for the main reason that the MCM event was an Australian Series round, while the event at the AGP was a round of the mainly-NZ based Tasman Revival Cup Series.
