January 25 and 26 is the 24 Hours of Daytona race here in the United States.

The entry list was released today and the V8 Supercars are represented. Shane Van Gisbergen will race a Porsche 911 GT for Alex Job Racing.

Other drivers in the 24 Hours of Daytona race that have raced in the V8 series are Ryan Briscoe, Sebastian Bourdais, Alex Tagliani, Scott Pruett, James Hinchcliffe, Graham Rahal, Jeroen Bleekemolen, David Brabham, Simon Pagenaud, Justin Wilson, Ricky Taylor, Max Papis, Darren Turner, Joey Hand, Patrick Long, Mika Salo, Jorg Bergmeister, Oliver Gavin, Richard Westbrook, Boris Said, Jan Magnussen, Andy Priaulx, Dirk Mueller and Marino Franchitti.

I was hoping more of the V8 drivers like, Lowndes, Whincup, Courtney, Ingall and Bright would be in the race.

Whincup has never been interested in moonlighting in other categories outside his V8Supercars committments (either has Winterbottom), while Lowndes and Courtney have expressed interest in the race in the past, as has Bright who did Sebring a few years back, as you say a shame none of them are entered.

Australia has had a few 'local heroes' have a crack at the Daytona 24hrs, in 1985 Allan Moffat took one of his Mazda touring cars to Daytona for a 'farewell' to the model with Gregg Hansford, Peter McLeod and Kevin Bartlett doing the co-driving. They did well too until mechanical drama's stopped them.

A big shame our guys are quite uninterested.

However, to be fair - it's only the names you guys mention that are in a position to do so - even if the others could organise a drive, they're too busy holding for grim death to their only chance at making money driving racing cars. Our guys, like Mostert, an obvious world class talent, have to specialise from the very start of their careers. If you want a career in motorsport, you can't have pipe dreams - it HAS to be V8's. The only people having a crack at Europe these days were never anything to begin with.

So really - the names you mention, and the few guys who do it, are the only ones who can.
