From the V8 Sleuth facebook page.

Sad news today for the V8 Sleuth with the news that Motorsport News magazine will not continue. br / It s the mag that gave a very young Sleuth a start back in the day and has given some great guys a launchpad for their careers that has taken them to all sorts of places in print, PR, TV and overseas. br / Launched in 1993, it lasted 20 years but always felt in recent years it was under massive threat from the ever-changing media landscape of today. br / Any publication lasting 20 years is a great effort - so here s to Motorsport News, some great memories from Orrong Road and Nepean Highway offices too.

I haven't bought it for a while but my local newsagent has been getting it in of late and it has been a great read, as it has become less newsy, and a bit more towards Motor Racing Australia type articles, which is interesting considering that MRA was "merged" with MNews.

Very very sad.

Pretty much have every copy buried somewhere.

RIP LJ - loved and never forgotten.

"It was dry for the second go-around. Grice, nervous, worrying about his Bathurst jinx, ran 2:25.9. The amazing Brock, using every last centimetre of bitumen, yet keeping the car straight and balanced and at full noise, came back with a staggering 2:20.0 as if to say: "Match that". And people just shook their heads, bit their lips and wondered who would be second".

The Peter Brock trophy is now where it belongs.

I'm filthy they stopped the Bathurst annuals. Have them all. Some older ones fetch over $500 on e-bay now.

Yeah they stopped in 1995 didn't they?

Drag them out every now and then.

They still publish V8 Bathurst, and the revamped Great race, which is now a pictorial magazine.

Don't worry, I was "the only one" with a pic they needed. Promised to pay on receipt of image via email, no payment ever received; no credit given when they used the pic, and no correction printed in the next issue when I requested and they promised.

The weekly version was axed a few years ago, but there is an online version of the monthly mag.

The demise of MNews doesn't really leave much to choose in racing magazines on the newsagents shelf, as it leaves Auto Action, V8X and V8 Action. Hopefully Daniel Powell's soon to be released Totally Motorsport can fill that void.

Mnews sorta had the right idea when they went online and gave access to it for free but changing it to the subscription model was more than likely their undoing. Speedcafe has got the right idea in the modern, online era of publishing...

There is a new motorsport magazine produced by Daniel Powell who also does Totally Speedway, and it's not too bad at all.
