Wow, bit suprising. Looking at game attendance at the games I go to for both and on TV and it looks as if AFL still craps all over the NRL. Perhaps the coverage is to good for the NRL which leads to less people fighting sydney traffic and pathetic public transport systems keeps people from attending the games.

I am a little surprised by that too.

Obviously the issues with the bunker, refereeing in general and listening to Gould and Hadley rant and rave doesn't deter the fans enough to turn off the TV and fill up the very empty Sydney stadiums.

Oh, and Wayne Bennett has been finally thrown out the door and told to **** off to Sydney already.

The writing was on the wall.

Bennett claimed, in a press conference, that he hadn't been contacting Souths players decision makers.

Then today's Courier Mail listed, on the front page, allegations about a swag of Souths players and officials that Bennett has been talking to, and indeed allegedly rearranging playing positions for 2019 and even influencing staff and player contracts.

Now this may be alleged, but it is being alleged on the front page of the pre-eminent Broncos territory newspaper, which just happens to be owned by the same organisation that has a controlling interest in the Broncos.

The new coach of the Broncos for 2019, who will probably be Siebold, will coach a rather disturbed and stuffed about team here in Brisbane.

Bennett was contracted to Souths from 2020.

If Russell Crowe decides to take him on for 2019, he will be coaching the players who allegedly dobbed him in.

It will be a constant stream of Media guff this year.

Frankly I am sick of all the stories of footballers and their skill with handling balls, when motor racing coverage is more important.

So he can get 2xsalaries for 2019?
I assume the Broncos had to pay him out after being 'sacked' opposed to walking?

The toxic stand-off between Bennett and Brisbane came to a head after The Sunday Telegraph revealed the coach had already been contacting Rabbitohs players, including Alex Johnston, telling him he would be playing on the wing. And he also wanted Souths to cancel an off-season AIS trip for an army camp, despite still being contracted to the Broncos.

Those actions were seen as a clear breach of his contract that will likely cost Bennett a payout ó reportedly around $900,000 ó for the final year of his Broncos deal.

quote:
Wayne Bennett has ruled out legal action against the Broncos after learning of his sacking on social media.

News Corporation can reveal Bennett will receive an estimated payout of $300,000 related to his image rights, but he will not be paid a cent of his actual Broncos football deal due to a series of alleged contract breaches.

Broncos lawyers spent hours on Sunday navigating through the legal minefield of Bennettís termination following explosive revelations the Brisbane super coach was contacting players at his future employer, South Sydney.

It is understood Bennettís Broncos salary had two components ó his football contract and an intellectual-property component related to his worth for the club in Brisbaneís marketing and corporate spheres.

The Bennett era has finally come to an end for Brisbane. AAP Image/Dave Hunt.
The terms of Bennettís settlement are confidential but the 68-year-old will leave Red Hill with a major six-figure payout ahead of what shapes as the final contract of his NRL career at the Rabbitohs.

While the straight swap will be formalised today when Anthony Seibold starts at Brisbane, Bennett will not be at Redfern. He remains in Brisbane today but plans to be at South Sydney later in the week.

Despite months of turbulence amid the most toxic coaching saga in Brisbaneís 30-year history, Bennett did not see his sacking coming.

Incredibly, he learnt of his termination via Twitter.

Convinced there would be no bombshell developments, Bennett left his mobile phone at home as he headed to Southbank to spend the day with his disabled son Justin.

While Bennett was lunching with his family, his phone went unanswered as Brisbane chief executive Paul White ó whom he has known for 34 years ó made several attempts to ring the super coach, finally leaving a voice message.

Bennett arrived home around 4pm ó still unaware of his sacking and an impending press conference involving White and chairman Karl Morris to publicly announce his departure.

Upon walking in the door, Bennettís partner checked social media and informed the seven-time premiership-winner of breaking news reports of his sacking.

Bennett will not seek a payout from the Broncos. AAP Image/Dave Hunt.
By 6pm, Bennett was in pyjamas and in a deflated but pragmatic mood, admitting on Friday there was a possibility he could be sacked after he called a press conference to declare he was staying at Red Hill.

After six months of explosive claims and counterclaims, Bennett will leave quietly.

Despite the potential stain to his reputation over the sad and bitter exit, Bennett has no intention of suing the Broncos. He is reluctant to go through the mental anguish of a protracted legal battle with the Broncos club he served for 25 seasons and just wants to focus on a fresh start at South Sydney.

ďIím really pleased itís all resolved and that I can join this great club with a free mind, knowing I did the right thing by the fans, staff and players,Ē he said in a Souths statement.

ďIím really looking forward to being at South Sydney and working with the players, staff, board and all of the members.

ďItís a wonderful club, South Sydney, and I feel privileged to have the chance to coach this team.Ē

The secret of life is honesty and fair dealing. If you can fake that, you've got it made.

That'd right, except it is now looking like he has stuffed up by having contact with South players. An expensive mistake.

Ah, sorry. I was right, but the reporters beat me to it.
Oh well. We all move on, not to worry, he's still on big bucks.

Drama around Cam Smith?
Norman to the Dragons... replacing one inconsistent fullback (Dufty) with another inconsistent fullback (Norman). I see it as a 'meh' move.

No wonder Cam wants to go around again:
https://www.nrl.com/news/2019/01/08/nrl-milestones-to-watch-out-for-in-2019/
Assuming he's fit, he'll hit 400 games and is only 33pts away from becoming the highest points scorer. And I guess he isn't playing bad footy either...

First time in years that i'm a bit excited about the Broncs.
Siebold has impressed all and sundry. The players are training better than they have in years
Glad Bennett has gone. He is as stale as week old bread.
Players are happy because there is no distractions and they don't have 20 journo's giving them the ****s about Bennett playing his games
Even Boyd said to him they can't have another season like 2018
Broncs are going to have a good year

Was there a game on last night?

There didn't seem to be much hype or promotion behind it.

The NRL is a total shambles at the moment.
Beattie and Co seem to be making things up on the fly.
