Britain has only one F1 race at Silverstone which is on very shaky grounds for the future.

Why then are most F1 teams based there.

Could it be because most of the teams were essentially kit cars, apart from tube steel chassis, and used British engines such as the Coventy Climax or Cosworth and British gearboxes such as the Hewland.

That simply does not happen these days.

With Brexit about to happen F1 teams must start to wonder why they remain there if they have to put up with complicated border controls between races and work permits.

Racing Point is not British owned but has recently purchased a big block of land adjacent to one of their existing factories that came to them with the Force India assets purchase.

They could probably do a really good deal to move to Europe and base themselves somewhere like Paul Ricard in France. They are going to build a new factory anyway and could get a government incentive.

Mercedes could relocate to Germany.

A Renault move to France would be well received and could get a government subsidy.

Red Bull's major shareholder is German and they also have an existing base in Italy with their second team or could move to Germany. There is a Google article that says Red Bull, the drink, is banned in France. If so, they would hardly move there.

Red Bull, in any case, for the umteenth time, is again threatening to pull out of F1 anyway, but they could simply close the British Based team and transfer technology to Torro Rosso and concentrate on a single team Maybe a buyer could be found for the British ex-Jaguar team.

The thing is that a European base makes more sense when travelling to most rounds and there are plenty of airports for overseas round.

My pick would be Switzerland and the better tax situation.

F1 teams were based in Britain before the EC existed, and many races are outside Europe anyway, so I doubt if Brexit would be much of a deciding factor.

Alain Prost was quoted last year when talking about his old F1 team that it would be crazy to base any team in France, wholly and solely based on the employee conditions and penalty rates

Prost said his team had half the staff of McLaren, yet spent more money on staff wages than McLaren due to French laws
