The current edition of Auto Action in its Archive section that looks back at old editions of AA makes mention that it is 20 years since the infamous Demolition Derby 1999 Calder Park Touring Car round.

First we had Justin Cotter do this late on Saturday afternoon resulting in a helicopter ride to hospital and a long recovery.

Next day we had this happen.

and of course the one everyone remembers.

All in all an eventful weekend for the emergency services side of the event.

Going to be honest, I wasn't aware of those first two incidents until right now, but of course well and truly aware of the Lowndes crash. Mind you I was four years old at the time.

How to make a 20 something feel quite old. CL was out at Ag Quip that year with his moon boot and a then 7 year old CP got a photo with him, and his autograph.

I was there sitting on “Mount Jane”.

Scary accident, was relieved he was ok.

Another memory was Larry stopping with the others to check out the underside of the car!

RIP LJ - loved and never forgotten.

"It was dry for the second go-around. Grice, nervous, worrying about his Bathurst jinx, ran 2:25.9. The amazing Brock, using every last centimetre of bitumen, yet keeping the car straight and balanced and at full noise, came back with a staggering 2:20.0 as if to say: "Match that". And people just shook their heads, bit their lips and wondered who would be second".

The Peter Brock trophy is now where it belongs.

I remember it was in the newspaper. Then several months after, NZ got the tv broadcast of the Championship series and got to see it then.
