The cap was proposed for 2008 but was never implemented.

The Holden Racing Team supposedly had a budget of $10m AUD to run two winning cars in 2000. [With inflation, this is equivalent to $15.8m AUD in 2019 dollars.]

Team Vodafone supposedly had a budget of $12m AUD to win two winning cars in 2010. [$14.1m AUD in 2019 dollars.]

The Shell V-Power Racing Team supposedly has a budget of $16m AUD to run two winning cars in 2019.

IMO, the cost to run a winning team has not increased all that drastically when you consider inflation. :)

However, for whatever reason some folks feel the expenditure level for winning in 2019 is excessive and would like to see cuts.

Should the Total Racing Expenditure Cap be revisited? Adjusting $6.75m in 2008 dollars for inflation, the level of the cap could be set at $8.7m AUD 2019 dollars to run two vehicles.

Whilst I agree with the concept I feel it would be too hard to implement and monitor, look at the footy codes and salary caps and the admin needed for that and the ways its been "avoided". How would you monitor it? each team to supply invoice copies to SC? details of wages? who sets/adjusts the cap? what do teams do if the run out of budget due to race damage? lot more "controlled" parts would be needed. Look at the depths teams go in interpreting current tech rules, they will do so here with a clever forensic accountants. SC will have to have a whole department devoted to the monitoring which will need a very very clever accountant to watch for "avoidance".
SC do need to keep teams costs down somehow but those with access to $$ will find somewhere to spend it.

Exactly. How would you monitor it/enforce it?

The only way possible is for there to be a handshake agreement amongst the team principals to abide by the doctrine of costs cap.

That is a pipe dream. Money buys speed.
