I hope that all Central members are safe and sound during this terrible time.

I'm nowhere near the fires but have been getting the smoke haze. Last night a southerly came through and brought with that more haze, and the smell of smoke.

I'm just getting hazed (sounds so wrong) but so many folk I know are in bad spots... I have friends on Kangaroo Island, others been evacuated from Gippsland, and others close up north...

just get real pissed off when, while the fire itself may not have been preventable, the ferocity certainly could have been and now we have so many folk who have lost so much.

what a waste [:'(]

I'm on the Central Coast so we've had the Gospers Mountain fire sneaking up on us. Everyone back in October/November was so focused on the North Coast fires, this Gospers Mountain one snuck up on us all. Turned into the biggest of them all in this state (at the time, anyway).

We had another one over NYE about 1.5km away that really took off pretty quick. Two kids smoking bongs in the bush accidentally lit it.

I don't want to get political about it, though. Let's just focus on rebuilding, moving on and recovery.

When the fires are out, go out to these small towns, go and spend money at whatever shops are still standing, whatever hotels are still standing, whatever tourist attractions are still standing. These small towns who have lost so much need our help.

A very good friend who lives in England has cousins in the Moruya area.
She's going out of her mind trying to find out how they are going.
I have spent a lot of time searching online for any snippets to help.
Apparently they and their property survived the first onslaught and have been let back home to check their preparations before the next onslaught expected tomorrow.

As a young boy, we stayed down in the Mogo area a few times at a little holiday farm. Gorgeous area. Absolutely devastating to think about that area being completely wiped out.

I picked up a couple from the Central Coast earlier and they were saying that a historic homestead down there was untouched, but everything around it was torched. It can be a fickle thing.

Jesus Christ, can this idiot Prime Minister of ours get anything right?

FFS, he just says on Kangaroo Island that no-one was killed, ummmm, yes there was, 2 locals, a father and son.

He is so far out of touch it is not funny. I hope all you people who voted for him are happy with yourselves

Wouldn't that be on his 'advisors' rather than him personally? No one person can be aware of everything.

I have friends on 'roo and the reports coming in from them the place is like a ghost island when it should be their busiest time

should we really be surprised at his apparent lack of giving a **** after he's displayed nothing but not giving a **** since this disaster began?

well if these are the same advisors that OK'd for him to go on holidays and have advised him on every other **** up, then he needs to sack them

I am not that forgiving Sonic, heaps and heaps of his predecessors got it right yet this tool can't, repeatedly

I didn't start this thread to be a bitch session on Morrison or any other politician.
I started it because I thought we might have members suffering from the fires or fighting the fires.
If you want to bitch about pollies, use the political thread.

I have been to Kangaroo Island twice. Sad to hear a lot has been burnt from fires.
Last Sunday Auckland had orange skies from the smoke crossing the Tasman.

Can you believe there are people online (mostly Americans) claiming those photos from NZ have been edited because "smoke doesn't turn the sky orange"?

My neighbour is a disaster management specialist and was sent down to Batemans Bay, Moga and Moruya last Monday.
He has to quote to some of the councils on clean up costs.
He and a couple of his workers spent a couple of days putting out the fire at one of the council's landfill sites as apparently no-one knew how to do it.
He ws saying when he phoned earlier that Moga is really weird.
One half of the town is untouched and the other is razed.
