What a disaster!!! Victoria could cause end of this season. I'm not sure how they'll get around these closed borders now. Half the teams in worst hit state & the rest in hardest closed border state!!

Not so sure about that bludvl???
That particular statement originally came in this earlier Speedcafe story on the 24th of June: (see paragraph 7)
https://www.speedcafe.com/2020/06/24/queensland-clarifies-winton-travel-arrangements/
Looks like they might have copied and pasted that statement from here for this latest article???

Press conference today from the QLD Premier said:

"Anyone who has travelled from Victoria and enters Queensland from this Friday, including Queenslanders,
will have to quarantine at their own expense for 14 days."
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-06-30/coronavirus-queensland-state-borders-reopen-not-victoria/12397720

There's 19 days from the Monday after Winton to and including the Friday before Darwin, so it could be achievable for the
QLD teams and those drivers that live there to self quarantine. But I guess the question is, would they want to do that???

Obviously there are implications too if any person has been in a hotspot and then go to Darwin, needing to quarantine in a
regional area before getting to experience or work in the NT.

QLD teams could travel from Winton to Darwin. Bypassing QLD. They've done 2 races away from home base before.
They, and VIC based teams could apply to NT Govt for quarantine exemption as specialists. They would then need to observe 1.5m distancing, probably for 14 days. Enabling them to work on cars during the 14 days and then be free before the race weekend.
Parts could also be sent to Darwin separately.

But things could change.

They could. Would be an expensive exercise to house, feed etc the 13 crew (per team)
for those extra 19 days though??? And what of those QLD based drivers who drive for
Victorian teams??? Teams arenít exactly swimming in money, let alone have cash lying
around to fund this type of scenario. I doubt any team will come close to these Victorian
hotspots on any planned trip to Winton (although Campbellfield is close to Broadmeadows)
so should be fine from that perspective.

Not beyond the realms of possibility some of the Vic teams staff live in the hotspot suburbs. Whilst they're allowed to go to work, it only takes one interaction to infect someone else in the team and then take it anywhere around the countryside. Much more pain to come for professional sport this year I suspect.

Possible.. Maybe have, Winton & NT has back-to-back race weekends (what are the rules for NT borders), then send them back to Qld for quarantine.. Miss Townsville (or maybe QLD government might make an exception, given they pay for it) & straight to Bathurst & hope everything is good by then?

Yeah, it was accurate info when I posted it.

But this stuff is changing so quickly that it was wrong almost immediately

I reckon a go/no go decision will be made on Winton by tomorrow afternoon, maybe Thursday at the absolute latest.

Supercars isn't a sport.

Its a category of motor racing.

yeah :( while no blame I feel can be placed at SC's feet for this if it happens, the stupidity of it is astronomical.

just checked the gov website and it shows that for the entire period we have been enduring this, Benalla has had 3 cases and 0 current...

and based on 0 current cases I guess it is a good idea to play it safe and just not go there... ****head scratching...

It isn't the going there that is the danger. It's what might be brought there.

Speaking as a local resident, there is no Corona north of the Great Dividing Range. We sure as hell want to keep it that way.

Additionally, while there is the Ruby Princess cluster, the Cedar Meats cluster and the rest of them, noone involved in motorsports wants an outbreak that is traced back to a Supercars event, or a racetrack.

Supercars isn't a sport.

Its a category of motor racing.

North of the Great Dividing Range... Where are you? On one of the Torres Strait Islands?

Very much looking forward to the SMP 500, then the SMP 1000 later this year, before the SMP Finale under lights in December! So good.....

Been there many a time, and unsure if the pits could handle it re. pitstops. Might have to be pure sprints.

I'd be all for it though!
