Oh well - should be a good battle between him and Ricciardo for the next decade!!!
Who cares what nationality he is! He's already been on of my favs the last few years (Mind you so has Ricciardo). Mitch Evans is a future F1 Champion. Mark my words. I hope to be quoting this post in a few years time when Mitch does have success! He is a gun driver
I don't think you're onto a headline there!!
It's been common knowledge he's going to be amazing for atleast 2 years now!
Just 2 years? I've known since the FF Manfield Winter Series in 08 he'd be a solid driver in the future. Wasn't til the Oz FF 09/TRS of 2010 (At the latest) that it dawned upon most that this kid was going to go places
A solid 5th and in the points for todays reverse grid race. Evans also the highest point scoer for the round (So Round Winner I guess)
Championship after 2 Rounds looks like:
Then it's daylight to 4th/5th place with about 7 drivers on 7/8 points.
Great to see Mitch Evans talked about for 1-2 mins in ONE's Pre Race coverage for the F1
Practise 1 - P2 (1:59:798, +0.09)
Practise 2 - P5 (1:59:202, +0.233)
Quali @ 8:25pm AEST
Mitch qualified 4th...but had quite a few mechanical issues in quali. So good effort. Team-mate Lewis Williamson on pole. Championship rival (And championship leader) to Evans, Nigel Melker struggled to P12. The only other driver near Melker and Evans in the championship, Andrea Caldarelli (P2, 20 Points) isn't racing this weekend. If they were to finish were they qualified Mitch and Nigel Melker will be even on points.
Mitch came in 3rd. Melker DNF'd
Mitch came 4th in the 2nd race. Melker 19th.
1. Mitch Evans (26)
2. Nigel Melker (22)
3. Andrea Caldarelli (20)
Mitch's quick team-mate Lewis Williamson (Who got Pole and a podium on the weekend) is in 8th on 11 points. Mitch's other team-mate, Simon Trummer DNF'd noth times on the weekend and sitting in 30th place. He is also the lowest placed driver to start every race so far this year in GP3. But despite this, Williamson and Mitch's effort have got MW Arden to 1st in the Constructors Championship
Britain:After a terrible weekend in Britain (Rain in the first race ruined Evans race after a good solid qualifying. He just missed out on points too. This meant not a great starting position for Race 2. He moved up quite a few postions of the start but he lost an engine after only 1 lap) Mitch dropped out on the championship lead.
Championship after Rd4:
1. Alex Sims (29)
2. Mitch Evans (26)
3. Nigel Melker (22)
Evans' team-mate Williamson has been in good form as of late and even won a race in Britain. He now sits in 6th with 19 points.
Mitch has hit back with Pole Postion for Germany. Sims qualified in 7th. Mitch is now on 28 points (2 points for pole). If things stay as they have in qualifying, Mitch would re-take the championship lead over Sims 38-31 after the Saturday Race
Diaster! Drive through penalty for Evans in a chaotic wet race! It was for not having all wheel fitted 3 mins before the start of the race! He led the early laps tho. Calado only 2 points behind Evans now and Williamson now equal on points with Evans....and will probaley overtake him tomorrow as he'll be starting at the front of the field and Evans pretty much in the back of the field. Although Sims didn't score any points.However he fluked his way to 2nd in the 2nd race and Evans had even more bad luck! Still 3 weekends to go. Looking like a huge championship battle between Sims, Williamson, Evans & Calado.Interesting to note the age difference between those drivers and Evans tho.
Calado = 5 years
Williamson = 4 years, 5 months
Sims = 6 years, 9 months
If I were a team in the WSR3.5 or GP2 I'd much rather someone very young because they have so much development left in the driver. Last year the top few got promoted to WSR or GP2
After 2 weekends of unbelieveable luck, Evans will hopefully get a solid result. Came 3rd in qualifying. Evans needs a result tonight otherwise Sims could walk away with the championship. Sims 11th, Williamson 15th. Calado 2nd however.
