Isn't he a rookie period?

In 2008 all the Champ Car refugees were classified as Rookies.

In terms of the Indycar Series, AJ Almendinger is not considered a rookie in the 2013 season.

Not all Champ Car refugee's in 2008 were considered rookies, they did it on a case-by-case basis. Oriol Servia wasn't classified as a rookie, nor was Bruno Juncquera or Alex Tagliani.

The Indy 500 stands on its own as far as rookies go though, if Fernando Alonso entered next years Indy 500 for example, he would be required to do the Rookie Orientation Program and wear his 'rookie stripes' all month long.

In terms of the race aftermath, its a shame to see some of ESPN's reporters flagging the idea of a "Green-White-Chequer" so future 500s don't finish under yellow (Chris Meyers made similiar nonsense comment about it on Twitter)... the 500 doesn't need to resort to those gimmicks (even Ryan Hunter Reay dismissed it, and he was the one who could have most used a GWC on sunday....)

Don't like the idea of the GWC at Indy as I think the reason they ended it under safety car was because they made the 500 mile distance, which while disappointing for some fans, is valid as its the Indy 500, and not the Indy 505 or 510. Besides, the Brickyard is tarnished enough as it is with the Nascar Super weekend. It was great to see Tony Kanaan win. The only thing better than that would be an Aussie win or even a Paul Tracy one.

Agreed, i don't think anyone begrudged TK that one, the roar after the race hadn't been heard perhaps since Rick Mears got his 4th.

I was amazed when i went to the 500 how popular Kanaan is for a foreigner

I certainly didn't expect Tony Kanaan to win the Indy 500 this year, but good on him! Just a shame though we have another disappointing year for our Aussies.

Good news. The month of May will kick off with the inaugural Grand Prix of Indianapolis.

Good news in that hopefully it kicks abit of life back into the month as opposed to the current Carb Day and Race Day that only attract fans now (time was when Qualifying Day at Indy was the second most attended motor racing event in the US, after race day).

Disgraceful though in as much as.... Indycars racing more than once a year at IMS (and going the wrong way up the main straight) is just wrong
