Back when I had enough time to do sim racing - I was doing countless hours of practice before each race and I was analysing my telemetry with the same software McLaren develops for Formula 1 racing.

Without that much of an investment I had no chance of being competitive even as someone running towards the back of the field.

Itís nothing at all like a PlayStation game. Doing well requires a massive investment. When Scotty Mac and SVG race on iRacing theyíre not the fastest - that shows just how difficult it is (though Iím sure they would be at the top if they had enough time to take it seriously... I guess they will now).

I agree completely. The ones who won't enjoy it, will be the ones thinking of it as a 'Playstation game', when it is far from it.

I run in a series on iRacing where we all have identical set ups (it's a development series), yet I still put a couple of hours practice a week in, on top of running in a NASCAR series.

So they've put together something to help us get through the next few months, where other sports cannot do a single thing for their fans, and there are some people here who are still finding something to complain about...

Unbelievable.

If they don't enjoy it, nobody should, apparently.

It harms no one and gives those who do enjoy it something to look forward to while the drivers have a bit of fun while they're not driving. It will also help with the bonding of drivers imo since it's all just banter and having a laugh.

i think the common misconception with the older blokes is that it's just a game.

you need to realise, this "game" is used by professionals in every motorsport category to keep themselves on top of their game. it is literally the closest thing you can get to driving a real car. it's not as simple as picking up a controller and playing a game with ABS and Traction Control turned on like you all seem to believe.

i would wager that the racing in this eseries will be just as good as the real thing, if not better.

you'll be missing out if you don't give it a shot

100% ignition and i consider myself to be one of the older blokes but im well on board with the E series, its a chance for lets say Alaxander rossi and hinchcliff to get alot of track time without having to stick to strict testing limits if WAU decide to run another wildcard bathurst entry this year for them.

The platform it's on and how it's presented will go a long way to win hearts and minds.

I don't get some parts of the eSports world either, but millions of people tune in to their favourite players duel it out on Fortnite and Call of Duty, which to me just looks like you're watching your mate play it in front of you.

Ideally, motor racing games (or sims) and sports games like FIFA would be ideally suited to a spectator sport, so its good to see that the big series are making their niche of a niche, less of a niche.

If it's presented as an alternative to the real thing, that will go down well, if not, people won't take it seriously.

I watched both the NASCAR and F1 one a few days ago in highlight form, and the better one was the NASCAR one. Sure, it was drivers racing virtual cars, but the way it was presented with Jeff Gordon and Mike Joy who were genuinely excited by it all, certainly made a difference.

The F1 version was less so, as the spectator mode they used on F1 2019 doesn't make it exciting and some of the commentary was pretty crap too.

As long as they keep Skaifey away from it "Cromley, these cars aren't real cars, did you know that?", it should be alright.

i was just thinking about this while reading Macauley Jones piece about simulators vs real car and in it it states 25 drivers are signed up, my question then was does Courtney get a run? he has no team but because its virtual he could line up on the grid

"The Brad Jones Racing driver will be part of a full cast of 25 drivers to contest the iRacing-based competition, which begins on April 8."

It's 25 drivers currently because both Goddard and Kostecki at MSR are entering separately - but yes would be interesting to see some wildcards on top of this.

I hope they don't go too over the top with the gimmicky formats.

We're all here, we're the Bathurst boys; and you can't hear Richo above the noise...

Bairdo will be DSO:

Full calendar:

Courtney also looks to be partaking in the series, unsure if just a wildcard or in for all events... and hours later an article:
