Itís the Motorsport itself that is expensive, and it doesnít have to be. Plenty of great racing happens on a much smaller budget.

I donít have a problem with the money, Iíll gladly pay 30 bucks to watch a good race. My complaint is the world is full of people who arenít willing to pay, especially younger folks who arenít fans yet but might become one if they tune in and watch when nothing else is on.

Motorsport is funded by fans, and if the vast majority of potential fans have no way to watch... thatís a major problem.

To get top quality coverage you have to pay, that's just the way things are now. If peoples hatred of paying a business $30 a month stops you from watching one of your favorite sports then you are just cutting off your nose to spite for face.

Do you means the fans have to pay, or the networks buying the rights?

With only 25% of Australia having Foxtel, and that rate falling, Foxtel wonít be paying what they are now for much longer. They are already tightening their belts when it comes to rights on other sports up for renewal

The networks decide what the TV rights are worth, not Supercars

Every singe race is shown on FTA, so how exactly is it not accessible to fans?

And if you think the youth are watching TV, you're dreaming. The next "TV" deal will be all about internet content & streaming (I.E. Kayo, which is Foxtel away!).

when? I have not seen proper races on free to air for many years.

the FTA heavily condensed package in recent times has been nothing short of a joke!

FTA has a "highlights" (some call it lowlights) package. They do not show every single race as you assert.

Well, they show every race, but not every race in full.

The government doesnít kick in money better TV deals so people to cheap to attend a race can watch it free from home!

Actually they do. A significant driver behind government funding of events is to promote the city or region to people in other parts of the country or world watching on TV or a computer etc. The idea being to increase awareness of the location and encourage people to visit at other times of the year.
It's why street circuits are supported by governments. The city gets seen by people that may then be interested in visiting it one day.

There is a reason a heavily government-funded events are the ones shown live on FTA in the current TV deal. The government doesnít want events they fund to advertise the region to be hidden away behind a pay walk where barely a quarter of the country can see it.

Just because the coverage has no ads and has a thousand hours of coverage over a weekend doesnít make it good for the sport, and doesnít matter if a minority can only watch it live

You may not have a choice. There WILL be active larger FTA component for the next TV deal

Imagine how Foxtel-loving Rugby Union fans are feeling right now

In my household the FTA antenna cable is neatly coiled up right behind the TV - canít be bothered plugging it in as we would never watch it anyway. All the FTA channels offer their content via a free streaming service.

Supercars used to post full races on YouTube and I watched all of them, but the Pay TV deal killed it. Iím assuming a proper return to FTA would include streaming because thatís where new fans would find it.

The FTA channels don't stream sport (inc motorsports) as a rule, as streaming rights are sold separately.

I think people are DREAMING if they think FTA is getting 1st spot in TV deal.. NO major sport has gone this way, so can't see it happening. FTA will get something, but if you think FTA is getting all races, in full & live.. DREAMING!!
