I'm amazed that its taken a plague to find a race format that works outside of a street event or an enduro.

I hope they keep it because it was a nice change to have three great races.

Not convinced that the format is a surefire hit to work at other circuits with less degradation but there's no denying it was an excellent day of racing today so let's hope it works.

Really unfortunate for Hazelwood to have the mechanical issue when he was in such a good position. Holdsworth also probably should have won if he hadn't lost a couple of spots at the start and then later to Reynolds.

We're all here, we're the Bathurst boys; and you can't hear Richo above the noise...

Oh bugger!!!!

believe that is how it works...

for those who could watch, was it ok?

It was good.

There was a lot of variation in pace as attendees suffered from degradation.

Was train-like at times as drivers queued behind the pack leader but it usually didn't take long for someone to shoot through.

And a large amount of discarded rubber. Some rubber was picked up and caused worrying amounts of smoke when re-used. But no damage done. Everyone seemed to enjoy it and want more.

never underestimate Scotty! (or Supercars record numbers :P)

((actually it was just me mixing the 90 races to get there into the equation))

What a reinvigorating race weekend! Simple, fast format and it threw up some decent races. Tyre deg!

Some great performances across the board too - Scotty still the class. Don't know what REM has been watching for the past 4 or so seasons, but I think he blanks out the #17 from his results.
Percat and BJR as a whole had a fantastic weekend, by the sounds of it, Hazelwood fell short of a podium thanks to a roll bar break. Do they use 888 front ends? It's no lower control arm ala Adelaide failures, but it seems the front suspension is weak in the ZB this season.

Frosty came out of the woodwork too, he looked genuinely happy to top SVG.
Anton seemed higher than usual, Erebus usually hate the more flowing circuits.
And JC! Literally in the car for 5mins and matching his teammates. Lee is also proving he has more to give.
The Tickford 'stang must be a good jig - I have no doubt that Davo would've been in and about the top 5 all weekend, they top Fabs consistently, just can't match Scotty.

Good weekend! How good is it to have the real life series back? Not overly sold on Supercars being the only category there, as I like having support sessions between, otherwise it just gets boring seeing the exact same cars again and again and again and again and you get the point. So it'll be good to have the supports back at Winton.

But the race format was good! I'm no fan of Percat, but it was nice to see someone other than Triple 8 or Penske score a win. Hopefully the format still works well at tracks with lower degradation.

And most importantly, while carnage and safety cars can sometimes create excitement, albeit artificially, we didn't have a single safety car or a crash or even anyone getting turned around. We just had good pure racing and from everything I've heard, the fans loved it. Great weekend.

Agree - SMP is a high tyre-deg circuit, teams getting their head around the format with less data etc available, everyone getting back up to speed - all those factors played a part.

Other circuits won't be so hard on the rubber and teams will now analyse the weekend and work out where they were outplayed and fix those areas.

It was a good weekend's racing but shouldn't assume that the same format will deliver the same outcome.

When the going gets tough..............

Do they / would they show supports on FTA?

It will deliver if they get the tyre allocation spot on so each team can't dominate a race without sacrificing the next one.

Not here in Australia mate. They show an hour of race highlights on Saturday night and Sunday arvo. If it's a round with full coverage like Adelaide, Bathurst or Newcastle to name a few then they show some selected support races. But I watch on Kayo now and they show it all.

They thing that made the racing more unpredictable aside from purposely not giving them enough tyres was that they didn't have the data logged info to look at. I hope that happens all the time, it was obvious some driver/engineer combinations struggled with it a bit and it improved the racing. Get rid of all of the electronic stuff, throw a stick shift back in, take away all the aero, and it will get even better!

New Commodore Hey! So you used your own money? Would you like to buy a used bridge?

Sounds like artificially creating entertainment.
Why not have 3 races over a weekend and tell teams each car can only enter 2 races.

Two things REM loves- making wrong predictions about Holden wins, and referencing himself in the first person!!!
