It's a pretty sad chapter, the remnants of the once powerful Evenham & Ranier-Lundy/Yates teams, along with the "43" history that the Gillett team adopted, has just become window dressing to disguise an RCR entry...

Not that they really had any other options.... what does it say about Richard Petty's ownership skills though, two teams he has owned have gone to the wall (justabout in RPM's case anyway) in a decade.

Toyota are bringing back the Supra, and will use the Xfinity Series to promote to the American market. This is the end result.

More new car goodness. Ford have unveiled their new Mustang bodywork for Monster Cup.

Agree. Both look stupid. The "lights" on the Mustang look too big for starters, and in general it's just oddly proportioned. And why is it not based on the facelifted Mustang?

Tough choice! Hopefully Supercars don’t end up this way.

This sport is getting even more complicated to watch. This new race format crap will make it almost impossible for the occasional viewer to understand what the **** is going on. 15 years ago this was not a bad series to follow, these days I don’t even bother and watch maybe 2 of the big events each year whilst channel surfing the boring bits which make up around 70% of the race.

It's inspired by the Shelby GT350.

Totally agree

I used to watch most races and the Daytona 500 for me was an all-nighter as much as the Indy 500

The whole shebang has just become so complicated, and the restrictor plate races ever more contrived. It takes no skill to win the Daytona 500 anymore, just luck...luck that you missed the "big one" which the organisers seem to like writing regulations that ensure it happens...

A Kurt update.

Patricia Driscoll, a former girlfriend of NASCAR champion Kurt Busch, was found guilty by a federal jury Thursday on five counts of fraud, tax evasion, and theft charges.

Driscoll, 40, was found guilty of two counts of wire fraud and two counts of tax evasion, all federal offenses, and one count of first-degree fraud, a District of Columbia offense.

According to prosecutors, Driscoll used money that had been donated to the Armed Forces Foundation for personal expenses such as jewelry, alcohol and personal items. Driscoll was the president and executive director of the AFF, which was a Washington-based charity assisting veterans.

A press release from the Department of Justice read: “While Driscoll was the executive director, in its promotions and request for money, the Armed Forces Foundation claimed that 95% of all donations went directly to military members and their families through the charity’s programs. … According to the evidence, Driscoll caused false reports to be filed on the Form 990s in a number of ways. For example, she failed to include the fact that she received commissions from fundraising, the amounts of commissions that she received from fundraising, and the other benefits she received. Driscoll also falsely categorized and caused others to falsely categorize expenses in the Armed Forces Foundation’s books and records as being for the benefit of the veterans, troops, and their families, when, in fact, they were for her own private benefit.”

The tax evasion charges are from 2012 and 2013.

It took the jury four days to deliberate. Sentencing is scheduled for March 2019.

The wire fraud charge carries a statutory maximum of 20 years in prison. Tax evasion carries a statutory maximum of five years. First-degree fraud carries a statutory maximum of 10 years in prison.

Brian Stolarz, the attorney for Driscoll, told Kickinthetires.net “the jury got it wrong. We will appeal.”

Driscoll and Busch met at a charity dinner in 2010. The two dated until 2014 (pictured above) but she then accused Busch of domestic violence in the fall of that year. According to Driscoll, she visited Busch in his motorhome at Dover International Speedway shortly after their breakup when he slammed her head into the wall three times.

Busch was suspended before the 2015 Daytona 500. However, the Deleware attorney general declined to press charges.

EDIT: Live coverage Down Under is no longer a thing, with Fox Sports announcing that it will only show highlights packages of all three series.

It won't be too hard to pick up a live stream from one source or another. I gave Foxtel Now the flick late last year and took up Kayo Sports for $25.00. I'll keep that even though there's no NASCAR so I can watch Supercars and the AFL, cricket etc. Cheap enough at $25.00 P/M.

I watched the Daytona 24 hour via a live stream called TwitchTV. It was a good picture, no ads, didn't cost anything and no spam or malware that I could see. From what I see the may be streaming NASCAR, we'll just have to wait and see.

Some possible changes ahead with how the cars are built.

NASCAR’s next-generation chassis is expected to carry dual Italian and American citizenship.

RACER has learned Dallara Automobili, which builds spec cars for the NTT IndyCar Series, Daytona Prototype internationals for Cadillac in IMSA’s WeatherTech SportsCar championship, and has produced a number of Formula 1 cars over the years, is preparing to supply the series with its Gen-7 chassis due in 2021 for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series.

It’s believed Dallara, which produces cars and spares at its primary base in Varano de’ Melegari, Italy, and Speedway, Indiana, will be tasked with developing the underpinnings of the Gen-7 cars destined for Chevrolet, Ford, and Toyota, along with using its advanced knowledge in cockpit safety to bring new innovations to the 2021 cars. It’s not known which facility would be used for production of the Gen-7 chassis.

As one of the world’s premier chassis suppliers, the company founded by Gian Paolo Dallara has serviced open-wheel and sports car series since the 1970s. Its cars are used in IndyCar’s Indy Lights series, Japan’s Super Formula, British Formula 3 and most domestic F3 championships, and both Formula 2 and GP3 F1 training series.

A Dallara representative declined to comment when reached by RACER.
