It was racist. End of story. Why would you say that?

Because there is a difference between the two cognitive capacities of the person/s involved in the respective taunts.

One a child whose remark was unwise/inappropriate but forgiveable due to her age and obviously mental abilities and the other an adult whose remark was also unwise/inappropriate but cannot be forgiven as he ought to have known better.

Sure if both incidents involved adults you could compare the two but not when there was a child involved in one of them.

To respond to Bruce in the NRL thread: it is probably the single hardest loss I have had to deal with at Souths to lose Bully. Much worse than Sam Burgess as he didn't symbolise Souths as Bully did. I think a lot will underestimate just how much a loss he will be to Souths but I fully understand how engrossed he is with NZ and I think given that he will make the successful transition that others haven't.

Haha. Probably not then

But I do believe IIRC it was indian crowds in India calling Symonds racist slurs.

It was Indian spectators and it was racist.

Thought so.

Do we know they were brought up in this country to learn the values of our community? Do we know whether they were educated in this country? Or were they just tourists here to watch the cricket?

More variables which make it harder for you to compare the two.

And also if IIRC around that same time and I am not sure as to the chronology of the events whether these racist slurs preceded or followed but Symonds was involved in a controversy himself when it was alleged he made racist comments to Singh. It certainly doesn't excuse the spectators for saying it but if indeed it followed Symond's comments it may provide a motive or explanation.

Interesting that India is one of the least racially tolerant countries in the world...

India has a history of basing their societal structure on discrimination, segregation and intolerance.

I am not comparing what happened to Goodes and who said what Bundy. All I'm saying is it was racist. Both episodes.

I hate cliches, I avoid them like the plague.

Like thousands of other examples in world sport.

<Start IMHO> it is only "actionably racist" if BOTH the source and the object see it (or can reasonably be assumed to see it) as racist.

Otherwise we will end up in a world with no character.
Please anyone, travel to any country other than the US, and look at the advertising - we are bland because people need to harden up.

I was teased at school for being overweight, and from a family with an unpopular religion.
I survived.

Toughen up Australia - otherwise we will become a nation of wimps like USA !! (oh dear ! was that racist ?)

<end IMHO>
