Yeah, one was born here and the other came here to make his name...  :)

Actually I'm not really surprised how well Scotty Mac is going. He seems to apply himself really well to learning and improving his trade.

Uh huh... Kiwi bragging alive and well ;) LOL

Not surprised that SMac is doing well, but I am surprised how quick he got his head around the oval! 2nd on debut against some serious talent is def worth a celebration!!

Rookie on pole. Grosjean.
SM 5th
Power 12 I think after causing red flag in earlier Q session.
Scott D failed to advance from his first round.

A fairly processional race this morning.
Scott finished 8th.
He lost 2 places in the pits.

Great run by Scott from Auckland to finish 9th after qualifying poorly. Still leads the championship.

Scott from Hamilton didn't have the speed of the front runners today. And maybe some bad luck with lapped cars. I was listening to a commentary, not watching, and that's how it appeared to me.

Some reasonable differences in lap times among the field. Not as much as F1 but more than Supercars.

I knew Scotty was a talent, but I'm very impressed by how quickly he has settled into Indy.

I reckon it won't be long before he has his first win

Us Aussie have adopted Scotty :)

But seriously....why so many good racers from NZ ?....dominate Supercars and Indy
Not to mention F1, world super bikes the list goes on

Must be something in the sheep!

Nah, kiwis have always had numerous talents floating around, the last decade they have been getting more opportunities around the globe. Might be a marketing by the categories to boost their NZ market?

I don't think anyone expected anything less from Scotty. I have seen a few keyboard heroes hammering him on some social media but obviously they are just disgruntled fans from the Supercars era when he was embarrassing their favourite teams and drivers.

Scott is the best Penske qualifier at 15th for the Indy 500.
Will Power has to race off again to try to get there.
Penske cars seem slow.

Scott Dixon nabs pole.
The Honda engine seems superior at this track, or qualifying at least.

Power squeaks in to the line up.

An interesting race, and well deserved win by Helio, a worthy addition to the four timer club, though win number 2 will always be contentious

On another note, the lack of crashes this month, and the way the race was run, show how much the race has been dumbed down in the name of entertainment, the cars are not the challenge to drive that they once were

A shame that Scott made the mistake on pit entry. He came out of that pit stop in front of Pagenaud so it would have been interesting to see where he could have finished.

Horrible luck for Dixon with how the first yellow played out. 17th was a decent recovery considering Rossi was stuck down the back of the top 30.

thats like getting the participation award... token thing and not a race win

Not trying to be to harsh here, Dixon peddles better than I could ever dream of but a win would have been bloody fantastic. (lost the championship lead as well, darn it)

It's the final round of the season this weekend and it's McLaughlin vs Grosjean for Rookie of the Year honours. Grosjean has been stronger as expected, but sat out three oval races including Indy. Scott has 20 points over Romain with 54 on offer for a perfect weekend.

At the top of the championship table there are two contenders. Alex Palou has a 35-point lead over Pato O'Ward. O'Ward basically needs to win with Palou well down the order for the deficit to be overcome.

It is my first year properly following IndyCar and it has been good, even though I've only been able to watch highlights and not the full races most weekends. McLaughlin has shown glimpses here and there but just hasn't quite nailed it at some critical moments. It has been a solid rookie season though and a good base on which to build for next year. The biggest surprise for me is his oval performances, with a 2nd, a 4th and an 8th in three of the four oval races. He was also looking strong at Indy before speeding in the pit lane.

I tape the races on my VCR(s) and watch them later.  It is great technology.  Any of you guys over there have these things?   :D

Of course mailing tapes across the Pacific could be a little expensive over time, not to mention the delay in transit.

I suggest you read my PM to you, Kye.

I almost didn't believe it when I got up on Sunday morning and saw Scotty had taken pole position. Even more so when I took my break on Monday morning and saw he had won ;D.

It will be interesting to see if this was a flash in the pan result when Scott and the crew nailed the setup or if he will now be a consistent front-runner.

Seriously though, McLaughlin showing good speed, Power excellent consistency (something he's lacked in recent years). 1 Aussie and 2 Kiwis in the top 5 so far - good showing!

HEY!  SPOLIER ALERT, MATE!   >:(

Just kidding.  When I checked on the site this morning I saw where the Kiwis Dominating thread had a post, I immediately knew either Dixon or McLaughlin won.  I watched the race tape delayed and after about 3/4 of the way, I realized it was not going to be Scotty Mac's day.

My bad for checking up here prior to covering my own bases.   ;D

I am just glad to see the series finally get back to Toronto.  IMSA just got back to Mosport a few weeks ago, too.  Good to see Canada is opening up from 2020 - FINALLY!

Oh, yeah..... and how about this issue with Alex Palou, the defending champ?  Chip Ganassi says he is signed for 2023.  Palou says, "Wait a minute, I do not agree with your press release."  Rumor has Alex going to McLaren for 2023.

Felix Rosenqvist is with McLaren IndyCars along with Pato O'Ward right now.  Is Felix going to be moved?  Is Palou going to replace Daniel Riccardo in F1?  McLaren has a wide diversity in motorsport.  Maybe Felix will wind up in the FE series?

Chip Ganassi is holding firm, though - He has Palou signed for 2023 in the IndyCar series.

To be continued....

He is now tied with Mario Andretti for second on the all-time IndyCar win list, as pointed out earlier in the thread.

Ironically, Mario was born in Italy and his family moved here after WWII when he was a little boy.  No one thinks of him as an Italian citizen, though - only as an American racer.  Somewhat coincidental between these two.

McLaughlin wants to extend the attempted Kiwi domination of Indy.

QuoteScott McLaughlin would like to see fellow Supercars champion Shane van Gisbergen race in IndyCar more than any other driver who is not currently in the series.

Simona deSilvestro was 21st but did beat some highly qualified drivers. Not bad for a minor programme after a long layoff. And she did it with "no time"  :o
