Is there a manufacturers championship this year?
Yes, for the manufacturer that achieves the most race wins.
I personally would like to see a change to the manufacturers' championship. In MotoGP, it is based on the best result for each manufacturer at each race. I think it would make it more interesting, especially if the best two or three cars for each manufacturer in each race were used.

I was thinking if Holden win the manufactures championship, who do they give the trophy too ;)
Well, after losing some motivation during lockdown, I'm back to do some stats! I'll update the first post in this thread later; for now here are some milestones from the season so far...
- Round starts: Whincup 250, Van Gisbergen 200, Hazelwood/De Pasquale/Youlden 50.
- Race starts: Winterbottom/Whincup 550, Coulthard 450, Reynolds/Slade 350, Pye/Mostert/Percat 250, Hazelwood/De Pasquale/Jones 100, Smith/Fullwood 50.
- Van Gisbergen has moved ahead of Richards, Johnson and Tander to be sixth in total round wins, and ahead of Seton and Brock to be sixth in total race wins.
- Whincup won his seventh round at Symmons Plains, equalling Lowndes' record for most round wins at a single circuit.
- De Pasquale is the fourth driver to score ten pole positions in a season, after Whincup, McLaughlin and Mostert.
- Whincup now has 120 top three round placings, breaking Lowndes' previous record of 116.
- Winterbottom and Van Gisbergen have matched Johnson's mark of 65 top three round placings.
- Van Gisbergen became the third driver, after Johnson and McLaughlin, to secure ten consecutive top three round placings.
- Whincup has matched Lowndes' record of 266 top three race placings.
- Van Gisbergen has become the fifth driver to score 22 or more top three race finishes in a season, after Skaife, Lowndes, Whincup and McLaughlin.
Thanks Ky, your work is really appreciated.
Stats post now updated to latest SMP round.
SVG on 13 race wins! I thought he was on 12.....
He could yet reach Lowndes on 16 in a season for equal 2nd, but it's great that Scotty will keep his 18 race record!
Mostert is interesting- most fastest laps, but only 1 pole and 2 race wins.....

Chaz usually comes out, goes quick, burns the tyres and goes backwards. The carrot of going faster always gets to him - posting as a WAU supporter :D.
With the round results decided by Saturday's race, Van Gisbergen has become the sixth driver to reach seven round wins in a single season. The mark was first achieved by Moffat in 1977 then matched by Richards in 1985, Skaife in 2002, Whincup in 2011, and McLaughlin in 2019. All of them got to seven with rounds remaining in the season, but they were never able to make it eight; can SVG become the first to do so with another Bathurst win?

One would suspect that it is the first time a defunct manufacturer has won the title?
Why do we still have a 'Manufacturers Championship'? Ford and Holden don't manufacture the chassis, the body, the transmission/transaxle, clutch, brakes, wheels, suspension, instruments, wiring, seats, fuel tank, cooling system, engine management system, or 90% of the engine on these racecars - and we drive our Toyotas, Hyundais, Subarus and whatever, cheering on our Ford and Holden teams, even though Holden no longer exists and Ford has shrunk to 6.5% of the market (with its range of imported vehicles being almost all utes/SUVs).
The 'Manufacturers Championship' IMO is irrelevant. I saw Larko's piece on "Manufacturer relevance" and shook my head. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1YboGmapF9M
Larko, Adrian Burgess and guys from DJR and 888 all gushed about how important that relevance is to Supercars. It isn't, it hasn't been for decades and it will be even less so with Gen3. More to the point: What relevance does V8 Supercars have to the manufacturers? I'd say approximately none. If Supercars did have some relevance, maybe it would show with a positive effect on sales. In 2000, Holden and Ford had around 40% of the new car market with roughly 20% each. Since then, that 40% has dropped to 6.5%. Manufacturers Championship? What's the point? End of rant.
I enjoy the racing, I enjoy the coverage and despite some here going on about the good old days when there was real racing in touring cars, IMHO the racing is better than it's ever been, but having a 'Manufacturers Championship' is to me, beyond meaningless.
Great work all the same, Kytabu. Not your fault that this anachronism exists, and your detail as always is excellent.

Anton's figures for poles, front row starts and even race wins are pretty good for his first year in a new team.
I expect they will be even better next year.

If I were to put money on the Championship winner for next year, it would be him.

I think SVG will still be the man to beat, but I think Anton will be his closest challenger. Throw in Waters if Tickford find some consistency, Mostert and Percat with WAU continuing on an upward trend, and the Erebus guys with their rookie seasons behind them. Along with Feeney, who I think will be fast but inconsistent, and Davison, who will be consistent if not quite as fast, the top nine could be hotly contested.

4 rounds at SMP Tickford's bogey track really killed their progress this year, Waters was 3rd and even JC was in the 10 up till that point, a proper season should suit them and Randle should go alright too.....
