With the introduction of the 5.4- and 5.7-litre engines next year, it means we say goodbye to the 5-litre V8s that have been the identity of the championship for so long. I thought it would be cool to look back at the numbers for this era. These statistics relate to all ATCC and Supercars championship races from 1993 to 2022. They exclude the 2-litre heat at Amaroo in 1993.
There were 384 rounds held, not including the cancelled Grand Prix in 2020, and 888 races (what a coincidence!). Two of those races featured no result (2018 Gold Coast and 2021 Sydney) while a further five planned races were cancelled: Race 3 at Calder in 1998 and the four races at the Grand Prix in 2020. There were 619 pole positions awarded, including the two qualifying sessions at the Grand Prix in 2020.
56 drivers scored a round win, 65 drivers scored a race win, and 99 drivers finished in the top three in a race. 51 drivers scored a pole position.
There were a few surprises while adding these numbers up; probably the big one for me was the pole positions, with Skaife remaining in the top five despite only driving full-time when there was one qualifying session per weekend, and Bowe staying in the top ten despite taking his final pole in 1999!
I will be posting more threads in the Nostalgia section; one for each of the periods 1993-2002, 2003-2012 and 2013-2022, and one for all of the models of car that were represented on the track.

I'm surprised Jason Bright did pretty well.
Thanks for the stats.
Very comprehensive Kytabu, along with your other threads - thanks for your efforts!
It certainly shows how dominant Triple 8 and HRT/Walkinshaw have been in this era.

888 especially given TWR got a 10 year head start.
I personally wasn't so interested in the top of the trees for drivers and teams; it was obvious who was going to top the lists. The fun part for me was seeing who was where from position five and down.
Ambrose would have been around for the shortest period of anyone on that list by a long way, but his numbers still look pretty good.

Lucky for him, he got out just prior to triple 8 hitting their stride.
