Title: 2023 Liveries
Post by: Brazen on January 02, 2023, 03:36:14 PM
Since it's now 2023 let's start the thread for official liveries.

Blanchard team has given us a sneak peek:

Certainly is a sneak peak, it's just a BRT logo and a Cooldrive logo  ;D

As awesome as the mustang looks, it looks very wide in this shot...

Damn, how good does the Mustang look! I can't believe we had to view "the Homer" funny-looking Mustang for so many years, will go down in history as an ugly race car like the AU Falcon.

The Cool Drive livery is good like most years, a solid clean and effective livery.

VERY impressed by the Cooldrive car... looks mean but also classy with that blue

So happy to finally see an actual livery... more coming next week I imagine :)

The profile of the car is miles better - what the Stang should've been to begin.
I'm not sold on the front end, however it may just be the livery as the Gen3 test car looked fine using only white and blue edging.

Hard to go wrong with that deep blue. Has always looked good on any shape.

Cooldrive have had the best livery in my opinion for the past few years.

Nice thread to start, Brazen.

The front does look a bit busy I agree but I'll happily take it over the melted Gen2 stangs.

DJR are revealing on Monday by the looks of it... and grove have a sneak peak on Instagram so they're probably close too

As much as I wish they'd do something different, it's actually cool to have the same livery to make direct comparison to the previous gen stang.

Shows off the new shape really well and they have tweaked it to follow the lines of the car

I'm in agreement with what's been said so far. On the one had it's a shame they're largely unchanged, but damn does it look good on the new gen Mustang.

The yellow around the bottom of the car makes a nice improvement.

Of the three shown so far on this thread, I haven't seen a bad one yet.  They are all great.

That will more than likely go sideways as soon as we start blending two different sponsor colors onto one car, though.  :)

They'll still look better than the melted Gen 2 stangs and ZZZ B Conformodore , mike :P

https://www.speedcafe.com/2023/02/07/photos-gen3-mustang-queensland-raceway-shell-v-power-racing/

First Camaro livery. Looks very busy, but traditionally the Erebus cars always are. I also note that they're running the Chev badge, rather than their "e."
And is that the wrong set of wheels?

The Erebus livery is very reminiscent of the Wayne Gardner 1999 livery. It would look a lot better with less of the smaller sponsor logos particularly on the front guard.

A more side on shot.

I wonder if the Comaro has a different set of wheels to the Mustang??

Perhaps just promotional? The Red Bull car at the 12hr actually has the wheels as per Erebus:

However, MSR are running the set as per we know:

Well I guess that changes that theory lol. Looks like it make well be a promotional thing with the wheels, or the wheels on the Red Bull and Coke Comaro's are "travel" wheels.

The Red Bull car at the 12hr and the stickered up Erebus car are one and the same.
The car Erebus has presented to show their livery is actually the Supercars test mule, as was the Red Bull car.

DJR livery is nice apart from the back I think

I agree - very good design. I had someone think that the similar 12 hour Triple Eight renders were 'real' rather than digital.

One thing I'm curious about - do you have to get the backgrounds approved by the team? For example I would think Coates Hire may be competitors with Schwerkolt's company for forklift hire.

I agree, Albert.  I can practically smell the pepperoni from here.  The livery is simple, straight to the point, and gets the sponsor across while still looking like a race car.

Saw a photo of the Castrol car at the circuit and it doesn't look metallic, unfortunately.

R&J Batteries for Andre released this morning too, another white car but looks good.

Rumours of Tickford losing Monster are starting to swirl. I haven't verified these yet but apparently there are no Monster branded merchandise in the Tickford store and Cam was apparently wearing a Tickford branded race suit and not a Monster branded race suit for the shake down the other day.

Will be interesting to see what comes of it...

Great pickup - I did notice Cam wearing JC's suit at the test but didn't think anything of it.

AutoAction report that the Monster deal is in it's final stages and expected to go through, however the fact that they'd rather debut a fully black car and the driver wear a different suit might mean it's soured?

I wouldn't read too much into testng with a black car, they do this every year in pre-season testing.. The suit thing might be a bit more interesting!! Anyone know is Cam normally does pre-season testing in Monster colour suit?

Those WAU cars look fantastic. I prefer the Percat one, the number on the door does it for me.

Andre's car is actually really sleek for me... livery works well on the Cammy.

Fullwood's needs some work I think... bit unbalanced... too much pink at the back... too plain at the front

At least Andre's car has a good smattering of black across the top on the bonnet and roof.

The concept for Jones's car had black on the bonnet and roof as well, but the sponsors get the final say.

I only have to wait until Perth at the end of April.

Courtney's car is awesome but I've always had a soft spot for cars in aqua/teal.

I really feel that Fullwood's car is the only one I'd say is bad... there's just too much pink at the back and the front has way too much un-interrupted black

Someone has already commented on the Middy's car. It looks a bit weird on track with a black front, as if they haven't got around to finishing the wrap.

The Shaw and Partners signs on the back guards of the Coke cars looks a bit old school as if it is just a last-minute sticker placed over the wrap.

Just a query that some knowledgeable forumite can answer.
A lot of cars are painted gloss black under the wrap. Does the black enhance the wrap colour?

Nope, doesn't really matter what colour the car is underneath. The quality of the wrap comes down to using the right material/laminate and the machine it is printed on, some machines print colours better than others.

I like the majority of the liveries, also.  No one has posted the Jack Smith livery with the two retro stripes.  I think this one is cool.  It should be real easy to spot - and not so that it is because it is at the back of the pack.

As for the Courtney livery, very nice.  I was wondering, though:  They take this car out into the woods, in a very scenic place, with a nice creek, and someone has tossed old tyres aside to get rid of them?  WTF?

I'm neither here nor there on the Red Bull. The matte blue and red harks back to 2017. Except more busy now...

More of an issue is that the Camaro doesn't seem to lend itself to liveries as well as the Mustang.
WAU and Castrol seem the pick of the bunch IMO.

Monster and Tickford have likely sorted their issues out. Cam has given a sneak peak of the reveal on Instagram, with a green light behind the silhouetted car.
Title: Re: 2023 Liveries

888's livery is the best example yet of trying too hard to keep too many sponsors happy. Pete's done his best, but even Pete couldn't get that list of names into a coherent, clean livery.

IMHO, the Erebus Coke cars are the best liveries, reminiscent of another red Coca Cola No: 9, but even Erebus has the same problem of too many names, although to a lesser extent. The Grove cars look striking, but are close behind 888 with trying to accommodate too many names on one car. Erebus are my No:1 with Blanchard close behind, then DJR, while the SCT car for Jack Smith is the worst. Those little bits of stripes look like they gave the job to a 10 y.o. There's a good reason some teams try to keep a consistent appearance year to year, even if some might call that boring. DJR have refined their design to a really clean, integrated appearance and it really comes together this year on a Mustang-shaped Mustang.

A team with too many sponsors. I'm sure every other team in pit lane would like to have that problem. A fully funded race team with a dog's breakfast of a livery - they'd all take that every day of the week.

the red bull liveries in recent times (for me) have worked well enough... this one doesn't, certainly not in this format anyway... perhaps it will look better in the flesh?

a shame as the livery at the 12 hour was a ripper

Strange choice for Pizza Hut?

Let's hope it is shiny because those look like fake light reflections, it could look very mustard on track.
It's not my dollar paying for it, but I have to agree with you murph.  The white car with the red Pizza Hut livery somehow makes me crave a pizza when I am watching the action.  I always thought that was one of the best.  Simple, but best.

The only jarring note is the rather meaningless round logo that Castrol is launching worldwide.

Any claim to WAU being in its 30th year is just not supported by facts.

For some of the time Mark Skaife was the owner.

Also, two of the championships that WAU brag about were actually in a team owned by the Kelly family.

They are running a false livery.

The #888 Wildcard livery has been revealed - not the test day one (referenced below for comparison).
Looks far neater than the ZB (which had fan photos plastered all over it).

That looks like a proper race car, Nick. Simple, old school.

Penrite will continue with their gold scheme. Pete always did like gold.

I also thought that the Bathurst Tradie Mustang actually looked like a inverse of the Moffat Federation XC.
A more 'inspired by' rather than a direct retro ala the Penrite Sandown cars.

Agree Lanky. The homologated light (F and R) should represent the road going version.
From memory there was a drama on the FGX rear lights, as they struggled to source them? And had to move to a newly fabricated one, which caused a hoorah in pitlane in reference to the tech regs of the time. Even the headlight was somewhat integrated into the front bar(?) of the FGX.

My point is, it can be done, a fabricated lightweight housing with the correct LED's/bulbs to represent the road cars.
Even the tail lights remaining illuminated on the Mustang just looks great.
