General Motoring / Auckland All Ford Day 2024
April 12, 2024, 08:51:53 PM
I'd been meaning to photograph some shiny classic Fords with my current compact camera for years, and I finally got to do it last weekend.

The turnout was awesome. I'm just posting a small sample. I'd never seen so many Fords in one place before, that's for sure. ;D Celebrating 60 years of the Mustang and there must've been about forty or more of those from the 1960s alone.

Ambro arrived after the gate opened to the public, so you may spot some non-Fords in the background:

I read the physical alteration was about Barry not allowing Will Brown to join in the celebrations in Adelaide for winning the teams championship. Of course, maybe there was more than one...

If the antics of his bosses drove him to insanity then I suppose it's not wrong to call it a health issue. Anyway, to those in the know it reads as Brodie being the more mature person in the situation and getting on with things. It'll just be great to see him driving.

No idea if there is much of a story, but 18 months ago could just be when the reality of finding himself slogging away in the bottom half of the championship set in. Maybe it was as simple as WAU's methods of setting up a car just not working for him.

Quote from: Zel on March 24, 2024, 12:59:57 PMIf I recall yesterday, someone punted another driver and receives a 15s penalty.
That was Randle on Hill in Friday's race. A lockup at the same corner as Chaz on Payne, except that unlike Chaz, Randle effectively lost no positions (while Hill spun and lost more than Payne did). Given Fullwood's penalty, it's almost as if tapping a corner of a car (ie. not quite avoiding) was treated differently to hitting a car square in the middle of the bumper as Randle did.

Hmm, perhaps I wheely spoke too soon there.

They showed the speed figures for the Sunday top 10 shootout and pointed out Mostert's setup was much more suited to sector 2. De Pasquale almost matched the Red Bulls for top speed in the session but clearly his setup didn't yield a great time overall.

Excited enough to watch at some point and see who'll be the king out of all these young drivers. Still not excited enough to try and schedule my life around the sport and watch live any more though.

I find it interesting the way that punters rate teammates:

Brown over Feeney.
Davison over de Pasquale.

etc.
I guess they considered the missing Ludo factor for de Pasquale. I'd make Feeney the favourite though as he has the continuity and quite a Whincup-like measuredness to his driving already.

Crazy how far up they've put Hazelwood for a team in turmoil. Waters on the other hand ought to perform above his odds as surely the bad luck of 2023 was an anomaly.

QuoteAfter first moving the Xfinity start time up 30 minutes from 5 to 4:30 p.m., that effort to beat the rain turned out to be in vain, and now the first Xfinity race of the 2024 season will not start on time. Rain has been falling steadily since roughly 3 p.m. It is unclear when, or if, the race will start Saturday. If it is postponed, it's probable the Xfinity race will occur Monday.

This morning's rescheduled qualifying session began about two hours late at 1:30 p.m., and Jesse Love Jr., the 19-year-old reigning ARCA Menards Series champion, won the pole.

Still, the National Weather Service's hourly forecast calls for more than a 90% chance of rain throughout the afternoon and evening, with the precipitation becoming heavy rain at night. Saturday morning's Cup practice, originally scheduled for 10:30 a.m., was canceled.

The chances of the Daytona 500 being run at the scheduled time on Sunday afternoon are also becoming more unlikely. There's a 90% chance of rain during the day, and showers are also expected between 7 p.m. and 1 a.m., according to the National Weather Service.
The Giz's main race was moved to today but now delayed to Monday. Just send him out in the wet and he'd be laps ahead. :D

Quote from: AlbertM on February 10, 2024, 11:16:59 PMIf true, no chance of Brodie driving for someone else this year.
It worked for SVG and he just had to put up with being dragged through the courts.

Unfortunately I think the best way to deal with bullies and/or shouty arseholes is to face off with them on the level of assertiveness their small brains understand. Demand them to explain why they'd say something that makes you feel like crap, given that's not going to help you perform/drive faster. Going to their boss seems likely to get you tangled in a bigger mess as we've seen.

Quote from: LG on February 07, 2024, 09:46:27 AMOne could say that Supercars are partly responsible for the situation.
If they knew about the toxic conditions within Erebus and allowed it to continue then they are remiss with their WHS conditions.

Sorry LG but unless you can point to a clause in the agreement between SC & the teams saying they have power to resolve these things, then I doubt it exists.

The only power they would have is if the team or driver brought the sport into disrepute, and SC do that to themselves better than any team ever could.
I laughed, but I think the teams would have a far more difficult time getting Supercars convicted for disrepute rather than the other way around. Supercars is the one who books the circuits, so they most likely also have the power to get someone trespassed from their events. Maybe all the other teams would need to agree to remove Erebus entirely though.

Latest believable explanation I saw was that working for the team was too toxic. Though I'd kinda have to be in the team to even imagine it. Must be a really extreme case with bullying and so on, given you kinda expect motor racing to be a high pressure environment with people working long hours and tempers fraying etc. Drivers also have the luxury of that buffer where they don't normally even interact with anyone other than their engineer while they're doing their most important work.

Quote from: TheArrow on February 02, 2024, 06:41:58 PMUnless I missed something, but I haven't seen anything about a "mental health" issue except in Peter Adderton's post?
Referring to Shane Howard saying "We understand the gravity of Brodie's decision and the challenges he may be facing at this time", ie. Supercars making it appear as if Brodie alone had an issue going on, when actually we can be pretty sure it's bigger than that.
