V8 Supercar Fantasy League / 2023 V8CFL - Rules/Format
February 27, 2023, 08:28:24 AM
Welcome to the 2023 V8 Central Fantasy League.  This is the ninth year of the V8CFL in its current format.

Each V8 Central Fantasy League member will choose the allotted number of cars per group  You will also choose a car manufacturer for your team

PLEASE USE THE 2023 TEAM REGISTRATION THREAD TO DO THIS.

Group A – Choose 2:

6  Ford        Cam Waters
11 Ford        Anton De Pasquale
17 Ford        Will Davison
25 Ford        Chaz Mostert
97 Chevrolet   Shane van Gisbergen

Group B – Choose 2:

2  Ford        Nick Percat
8  Chevrolet   Andre Heimgartner
26 Ford        David Reynolds
88 Chevrolet   Broc Feeney
99 Chevrolet   Brodie Kostecki

Group C – Choose 2:

5  Ford        James Courtney
9  Chevrolet   Will Brown
18 Chevrolet   Mark Winterbottom
20 Chevrolet   Scott Pye
23 Chevrolet   Tim Slade

Group D – Choose 2:

3  Ford        Todd Hazelwood
14 Chevrolet   Bryce Fullwood
31 Chevrolet   James Golding
34 Chevrolet   Jack Le Brocq
55 Ford        Thomas Randle

Group E – Tiebreaking group / Choose ALL 5 IN PREFERRED ORDER:

4  Chevrolet   Jack Smith
19 Ford        Matthew Payne
35 Chevrolet   Cameron Hill
56 Ford        Declan Fraser
96 Chevrolet   Macauley Jones

Manufacturer - Choose 1:

Open to ANY type of proper model/make for our series and not limited to what is currently run, that being Ford or Chevrolet.

Throughout the season:

A maximum of FOUR car changes (total) will be allowed for Groups A-D.  Only ONE change is allowed per group.  If you wish to make TWO changes in a single group, that SECOND change will be counted as TWO changes.

Examples:  In Group A you drop Car 6 and pickup Car 25.  That is one change of your four that will be counted.  Later you wish to Drop Car 11 and pickup Car 97.  THAT is your second change in that group and will count as TWO more changes of your four, bringing the total to THREE changes.

If you make only one change in Group A, B, C, and D respectively, that will be your four allotted changes.

New for this year:

Only ONE change per round will be allowed in Groups A-D.  You cannot use two, three, or all four of your changes for any given round.

Once rosters are formed, subsequent changes and reshuffles CANNOT be made until Round 4 at Symmons Plains. After that, car changes and reshuffles can be made at any time.  You will have your original team roster for the first three rounds.

A maximum of THREE reshuffling changes (total) will be allowed in Groups E.  This is our tiebreaking group. These reshuffles are independent of your Groups A-D changes.

In conclusion:  One change per round, reshuffles at any time, no changes prior to Tasmania.

Changes made prior to Midnight Thursday Sydney, NSW time prior to the upcoming weekend round will go into effect for that round. Changes after Midnight Thursday, Sydney, NSW time, will go into effect for the next round. Sydney, NSW time, will be used for the V8CFL with respect to time stamps for all rounds.

Car changes must be made within the same group.

Points are scored by cars – not drivers. For example, if you have Car 8 on your team, Andre Heimgartner is that driver to start the season with. If he vacates Car 8, for whatever reason, and another driver takes over, you will still have Car 8 on your team. If Heimgartner subsequently starts driving Car 55, and you do not have Car 55 on your team, you do not have Heimgartner as a driver. You still have Car 8 unless you change cars in that respective group. Car 8 gets you points. Car 55 does not – unless you make a change to pick up THAT car in that group.

For the enduro rounds, whoever pairs up with the drivers in your cars, is on your team, but the car still gets the points – whoever is driving.

Please use the applicable Team Registration thread to make changes. Do not PM me with them. I want everything out in the open for all to see.

************

Points and scoring:

Each RACE will be scored for points.

Non-enduro rounds: Your total points tally from all of your Group A through Group D cars will be used to determine where you finish for the given race. Eight cars.  Group E is for tiebreaking purposes.

Enduro rounds: All of the same eight cars will be scored along with your FIRST TWO choices in Group E - 10 total.  Group E will also still be the tiebreaker.

The five bonus points for the fastest lap at each sprint race will also be added as applicable.

Based on your total points, you will be placed in a finishing position/order. Whatever points per race the Repco Supercars are issuing for that given race, the V8CFL will also issue, based upon where you finished with your total point tally. For example, winners will receive either 300, 150, or 75 points.

Your cars in Group E will be utilized for tiebreaking purposes. The highest finishers in Group E will break the tie. It does not matter where your Groups A through D cars finish, Group E will decide the tie. Each participant will have all five cars in Group E in a listed order. That order will be your preference for breaking any ties.

For example:

If Participant A has Group E order as 56-19-96-4-35
& Participant B has Group E order as 96-35-56-19-4

It comes down to who finished higher – Car 56 or Car 96. Let us say Car 56 tops Car 96 by four places, in this case, Car 56 wins the tiebreaker for Participant A.  If both participants have the same car listed first in the order, it will go to the second.  As listed above, Car 19 v. Car 35.

If still tied after that, we will go to the third car, and so on.

Cars must be classified/score points to be utilized in the tiebreaker.

There will be NO identical teams. If there are, I will request the last participant forming the identical team to change something. There can be identical teams with respect to Groups A, B, C, & D being the same eight drivers, or Group E being the same order of the five drivers, but not both (Groups A, B, C, & D and Group E) .

Sometimes teams change car numbers for various purposes. A change in car number from 11 to 100, for example, does not exclude the 11 Car from scoring. It will be recognized without saying that the 100 Car is/was/will be the 11 Car and scored accordingly.

Tiebreakers (in conclusion):

All ties will be broken using the following formula:

1) Highest finishing first chosen Group E car (points-wise) in race.

2) If tied, highest finishing second chosen Group E car (points-wise) in race.

3) If still tied, highest finishing third...fourth... and fifth.

4) If the Group E tiebreakers are identical for two or more teams, the highest finishing car in Groups A-D will break the tie.

If prior to a racing weekend, two teams attempt to form identical team rosters (all eight cars the same in Groups A-D and likewise order in Group E, I will not allow the last change requested.

There will be no late signups like in years' past.

PENALTIES: Any points penalties levied against any team or driver by Repco Supercars will be fully recognized by the V8CFL. Said penalty, however, must be assessed due to a violation during a race, or post-race inspection.

If a penalty is levied against a driver or team for a rules violation during qualification, practice, or something bizarre such as a pit garage fight/scuffle, the V8CFL will NOT recognize the penalty. It must be directly related to the racing, or race incident.

CAMS Stewards Summaries will be the guideline for any penalties.

************

Media Center:

TheArrow will be in charge of this department for 2023. It is already up and running.  Have fun with it.

************

I will bring back the V8 Central Fantasy League Tournament.  There will also be an Enduro Cup of some sort.  Details to come.  The Tournament will not start until Round 2 at the AGP.

Please feel free to ask questions on this thread, and this thread only, so all rules/points breakdowns will be clear to all. Chances are, if YOU have a question, someone else has the same question. Ask.

I reserve the right for final say in rules whether that be a clarification or change due to a conflict.

************

In conclusion for 2023:

Each race will be scored for points. For non-enduro rounds Group A through D cars (eight cars) count for points. Group E will not.

For endure rounds, all eight cars PLUS the first two choices in Group E – 10 cars total.

Group E will be used as the tiebreaking formula for all rounds (reference above). If Group E does not break the tie, we will revert back the highest finisher of the Group A through D cars for the tiebreaker.

You are allowed FOUR changes total in Groups A through D.  One per group.  If you use TWO in the same group, that change in itself will count for TWO changes.

Only one change per round will be allowed.

You are also allowed three reshuffles (total) in Group E – the tiebreaker.

Reshuffles can be made at any time whether you have made any Groups A-D changes or not for that round.

No changes can be made from the start of the season until the start of Round 4 at Symmons Plains.

Thank you for participating in 2023. Deadline for signup is MIDNIGHT THURSDAY SYDNEY, NSW TIME PRIOR TO ROUND 1.

Formula One / 2023 F1 Comp
February 21, 2023, 12:40:09 AM
No, I am not running it.  An individual who loves F1 that I have met/come across on another site that requires an invite is thinking of running it.  The comp will be on a neutral site from what I gather.

But right now he is looking to see how much interest there is.  It is up to you to check it out.  All are welcome.  Here is his post:

************

Hi folks!

I am considering putting a simple wee competition together for Formula 1, called "No Prize in Team", where we all have to pick 1 driver per team each race weekend and whichever driver finishes further up the order, you receive points.  If they finish in the top 10, you also receive the points handed out for that too!

If interested, fire along an email to me, with the title as "count me in!" to:  f1-dreamteam@shaw.ca

Like I said, I am not running it.  I just am just offering it to anyone who wishes to give it a crack.

V8 Supercar Fantasy League / 2023 V8CFL - General Chat
February 15, 2023, 01:30:51 AM
We'll open up the thread for the season's general chat, men.  All are always welcome to participate.

I would like to thank TheArrow for head manning the Media Centre once again.  If you need any help with liveries, just check the 2022 Media Centre as to who posted what and I am sure that "who" will lend a hand.  New templates, too.  :)

I am on holiday in Florida now watching dirt speedway Winter action.  In a bit, once I get back, we'll form the groups/templates for the 2023 campaign.  To ensure a fair comp, I have to consult with the V8CFL brain centre while doing so - and I do not mean my cat.  You will have plenty of time to choose your rosters.

One thing for sure, now that the virus is no longer affecting world events, and we should have a solid 2023 calender, I am going to bring back the V8CFL Tournament.

Also, try and "recruit" some new members.  Not only for the V8CFL, but for the V8Central site in general.

I'll see you down the stretch.

General Discussion / Happy New Year!

Happy New Year from the States, men!  We still have a couple of hours to go to get to 2023, but you get the idea.

As usual, we are going nowhere tonight.  Too old and boring we are.  Just decided to stay home with the cats and fire up the grill in the driveway and BBQ some chicken.  Made good use of the F-150.

All,

TheArrow has organized a vote in the Fantasy League thread: 2022 Best Presented Team Award.

Feel free to give it a look and cast your votes.  It is a well organized, and anonymous contest that runs until 12/12.  He has a contest of the sort for us every year.

You do not have to be a member of the V8CFL to partake.  The more the merrier.

2023 TCR Australia calendar revealed
By News Editor

The calendar for the 2023 TCR Australia series has been published, featuring seven events between February and November as the Australian Racing Group consolidates its championships into one schedule.

All Motorsport Australia Championships and Australian Racing Group (ARG) events will take place under the 'SpeedSeries' banner next year.

As in 2022, two visits to the famous Mount Panorama circuit in Bathurst are planned, as the calendar retains the venues utilised in 2022 in a similar scheduling pattern.

Whilst the third event of the year has yet to be confirmed, being only listed as 'Victoria TBC', the slot was used by the Phillip Island Grand Prix circuit in 2022, with the island circuit also being located in the Victoria state.

The upgraded Queensland Raceway will return to the calendar for a second successive season in early August, followed by another trip to Sandown – which featured in both 2019 and 2022.

The series will once again be part of the package which includes Trans Am, S5000 Australian Drivers' Championship, GT World Challenge Australia, Porsche Sprint Challenge, Touring Car Masters and Australian Production Cars.

"Creating a single brand for the suite of ARG and Motorsport Australia categories to fall under made sense for all concerned," said ARG Chief Operating Officer Liam Curkpatrick. "It's been a great collaboration with the team at Motorsport Australia to make it happen.

"It makes sense for the fans, partners, for the broadcasters and for the categories themselves who will be able to tell their own supporters, sponsors and followers that they are racing at a 'SpeedSeries' event wherever they go throughout the year.

"The unified approach will mean our marketing, promotion and management of each event can be even more effective and continue to build on the record attendances and great broadcast audiences seen this year.

"2022 has served as something of a soft launch for the 'SpeedSeries' brand, but its clear and simple branding has worked very well and we are looking forward to collaborating with the team at Motorsport Australia to build it further in 2023 and beyond."

IndyCar / 2023 IndyCar Season
November 19, 2022, 12:49:40 AM
I'll start a new thread for this.
.
Here is an article from www.racer.com concerning the IndyCar silly season.  I won't bother you with all of the ongoings, but here are a couple that might get your attention.  If you wish to read the whole article:  https://racer.com/2022/11/18/pruett-indycar-silly-season-update-november-edition/

IndyCar Silly Season Update, November Edition
By Marshall Pruett | November 18, 2022 7:47 AM ET

.....The perfect candidate was one who possessed strong driving skills and an equally strong ability to fund the car; as expected, joining one of IndyCar's top two teams comes with a financial premium. That perfect candidate looked like Williams Formula 1 driver Nicholas Latifi, but in recent weeks, I've heard conversations with the Canadian reached a quiet end.

.....If there's one race-winning F2 driver that seems to have a decent chance of joining the grid, it's Marcus Armstrong at DCR. There's still nothing significant to share in terms of whether it will indeed happen, but the New Zealander is said to remain in the mix to drive for the team. Whether it would be in a full-time capacity in the No. 51 Honda or limited to the road races is unknown, and as I wrote in the last update or two, he's not the only driver on the list who is capable of bringing some funding to the seat. I also continue to wait to hear on Takuma Sato's confirmation as an oval-only driver for DCR.

.....Let's close with what could be a fun one, if and when it gets confirmed. Team Penske's Scott McLaughlin took to social media this week to tease his need to learn Daytona's roval circuit, and from what I've learned, he'll be competing in his first Rolex 24 At Daytona in January in the LMP2 class. Even better, I'm told it will be a #BusBros-themed driver lineup with Penske teammate Josef Newgarden in the same car.

And if that isn't enough of a party, the final bit might be the coolest of all as McLaughlin and Newgarden are said to be continuing their LMP2 adventure together after Daytona where they're meant to make their debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the middle of June on the great endurance event's 100th anniversary.

From conversations I've been part of regarding IndyCar-grade drivers being considered for factory GTP seats at major endurance races, most manufacturers have been very strict in their requirements for the McLaughlins and Newgardens of the world to first gain experience in similar cars at big events before the door would opened to racing in those factory cars at Daytona, Sebring, and Le Mans. This has a similar feel.

Assuming everything moves forward for Penske's IndyCar stars at Daytona and Le Mans 2023 – and it's with an excellent LMP2 team – I would not be surprised to see their names listed as enduro drivers with the Porsche Penske Motorsport GTP program or one of its customer teams in 2024.

IndyCar / Alex Palou - 2023
September 16, 2022, 10:56:18 PM
Palou Staying with Ganassi, Rosenqvist with AMSP for 2023
By Marshall Pruett | September 14, 2022 10:37 AM ET

The saga surrounding Alex Palou and where he will drive next year has come to an end.

"Alex Palou will remain in the No. 10 car with Chip Ganassi Racing for the 2023 IndyCar season," his team confirmed. "The agreement affords him the opportunity to test cars in separate racing series, provided that it does not directly conflict with his IndyCar commitments. As always, we will support Alex as he seeks a second series championship with the team."

The Spaniard added to the confirmation via his social media accounts.

"I'm excited to announce that [Chip Ganassi Racing] and I have come to an agreement and I'll be back in the No. 10 car next season!" he wrote.

The news brings an end to a standoff that began on July 12 when CGR, followed soon after by McLaren Racing, announced they had Palou under contract for 2023. Palou, as well, took to social media to make critical comments towards CGR while expressing his desire to leave for McLaren.

As RACER trailed last weekend in Monterey, the relationship between Palou and McLaren Racing appeared to be diverging, with comments from both parties setting the stage for what has taken place with today's announcement. RACER understands Palou's desire for increased compensation has been met.

In a related move, McLaren has triggered its option for Felix Rosenqvist, who will remain in the No. 7 Arrow McLaren Chevy that McLaren CEO Zak Brown had reserved for Palou.

"I'm delighted that Felix will again be racing with AMSP through 2023," said Brown. "He had a strong 2022 season, and I look forward to seeing what he, Alex Rossi and Pato O'Ward can do when they join forces in papaya."

As your leader I have decided on the 2022 format.

Last year, skaifeman and myself took honors in Class 1.  ignition (missing in action this year) and Professor took Class 2.

For this year we will have one class.  Six teams.  Twelve participants.  We have thirteen teams, though.

This will/should be an all Down Under comp.  Hence, I am removing myself from the action.  I will be the 13th team on the outside.  I'll look in and watch.   ;D

Teams will be made up:  1-12, 2-11, 3-10, etc.  Take me out of the mix.  The pairings will be made up after Pukey.  Highest team in the points will determine what car/marque will be run.

All I ask is to post pics, like last year, from atop the mountain and at the camp sites.  We had some great ones last year.

Feel free to include good looking women.

Human Remains Found in Suitcases New Zealand Family Bought at Auction
Police were first notified about the gruesome discovery last Thursday afternoon

Authorities in New Zealand are investigating the death of an individual whose body was discovered in old suitcases a family had won at auction, PEOPLE confirms.

The Counties Manukau Police announced in a statement that the person's death is being handled as a homicide.

Police were first notified about the gruesome discovery last Thursday afternoon.

According to police, the contents of the abandoned storage unit the family had placed the winning bid on were delivered Thursday to their home.

As they rummaged through the items from the storage unit, they found suitcases, and inside of them, human remains.

"From our enquiries so far, we can advise the occupants of the address are not believed to be involved in the incident," the statement explains. "Police acknowledge them for their assistance so far and we are providing support for them."

The statement notes that the main priority for police is identifying the remains, and notifying the deceased person's family.

"A post-mortem examination is underway," which should provide investigators with a cause and manner of death, say police.

The statement says that, "given the nature of the discovery, this might take some time."

I like how the article said, "....the person's death is being handled as a homicide."   ::)
