Repco Supercars Championship / 2022 Liveries
January 26, 2022, 09:22:50 AM
I know REM posted this in the Silly 2022 thread already, but I think it best to start a livery thread for throughout the year.
Surprised no one has revealed until now!

Penrite kick us off with their expanded sponsorship of Grove.

Surprised this hasn't come up given the grief that the previous have forsaken us with (tongue in cheek).

Shane Howard new Supercars CEO as of Feb 1:

RACE Board Members:
https://www.speedcafe.com/2022/01/17/race-board-members-revealed/

Barclay Nettlefold - Chairman
Mark Skaife
John McMellan
Barry Rogers
Steve Macaw
Jure Domazet
Neil Crompton - Commission Chair

Great mix of current Supercars staff and new investors, lets hope they continue to offer a better Motorsport 'package' for Australia.

Nostalgia / The Golden Child
January 16, 2022, 10:09:07 PM
I know this car has history, certainly in the conversation, and arguably the best, but $2.8mil has got to be a bit steep?
First thing I'd do is panel it back up as the 2002 VX. As it finished after winning the '01 and '02 majors, rather than the '03 Adelaide 500.

Forget having to potentially reschedule events, I see drivers having to spend a weekend watching the action.

If professional sports around the world (F1, NBA, NFL even the Cricket on these shores) is anything to go by, now that the rules have been relaxed, the chance of someone missing a round is BIG and would play a massive role in the Championship.

The easiest way to get around this would be for the 'drop your worst round' rule to return, which I wouldn't be against if drivers start dropping like flies.

This is something that should be on Supercars radar.

General / DTM 2021 - Final
October 11, 2021, 10:57:02 AM
Bit of drama from Norisring, with Liam Lawson losing the title in the final race after having one hand on the trophy.
Big dive at the first corner by van der Linde practically ended his race, which was basically a carbon copy move of race 1 too.

Merc then worked together and Gotz won the title:

Would be hard to take for Liam, plenty more to come from him.

Formula One / Schumacher Documentary

Anyone else given it a watch on Netflix?
I found it a little disappointing to be honest. I guess us race fans always suffer, as these are generally targeted at the general public, especially now with Netflix.
Didn't really touch on anything throughout his career, just skimmed.

The Senna Doco so far is the best.

Also on the topic of Netflix, they're interested in bidding for the TV rights. Seems Drive to Survive was a massive success.

Repco Supercars Championship / A Return to Canberra?
September 06, 2021, 01:30:43 PM
Carsguide has broken a bit of click-bait, suggesting talks are underway for an event in Canberra come 2023.
If anyone is familiar with Summernats, this uses the same complex, with the addition of some surrounding roads:
https://www.speedcafe.com/2021/09/06/canberra-concept-proposed-to-supercars/

They'd have to widen pretty well every piece of tarmac it uses. And there's now a tram line running down Flemington Rd.
Likelihood of it happening, minimal.

Did anyone else manage to get the Diecast Expo 1978 Forbes Bartlett A9X?
Went on sale at 10am, website crashed. Managed to get one about an hour before they all sold.

I have a great affiliation with this car. A close friend was the owner, before the current one, whom brought it to the condition you see now.

One just now popped up on eBay for $900. Highly doubt they'll get that...

Update: They're selling for about $850. Insane.

Starts tonight at 7:30pm on a variety of streams. Two Championships this year.

All Stars: Our known drivers, both current and overseas

Pro Series: Proper Sim Racers
https://www.supercars.com/news/eseries/car-by-car-the-full-pro-series-grid/

Surprisingly, SVG won't be driving in either series - he's probably good enough to take on the pro's quite successfully.
Expect de Pasquale to run away with the All Stars.

And as per last year, I'm expecting D Warren and Fisell to be the guns.

Repco Supercars Championship / Whincup's Swansong?
August 20, 2021, 07:24:46 PM
Have we seen J-Dub's final race weekend?
There's been enough events in enough States to hand SVG the trophy now and call it a day.

With 2021 seemingly down a certain creek without a paddle, what does he do if the season ends early? It's not the way he (or any of us) would've hoped.

May as well start somewhere...

Hazelwood to run the Scandia flames again at Winton.
Can't help but feel the Randle/Tickford attempt on the Mustang was better, far cleaner.

Dutto to navigate Toby Price in this years race.
Hats off to Red Bull, what teams they support aside, they're media and commercial team is the best in the extreme world.

Pretty good looking truck too.

Repco Supercars Championship / Silly Season 2021
May 18, 2021, 08:46:56 PM
Thought this still might be best off in this thread.

Rick was at Winton today, in the KR garages... not sure if he was there for another team? I know Tickford and Blanchard were also testing.
Such an odd outcome, tiff or no tiff.

So Turkey replaced Canada, and now Austria replaces Turkey...

Anyone think they won't make it to Aus?
