It would seem F1 don't offer anymore than Supercars regarding team issues:

The Bathurst 12HR kicks off this Championship (and the Intercontinental).

The opening scenes and sunrise of the 12HR are always fantastic.
...then the rain came. Didn't catch too many out. The Bimmer got caught doing a Whincup/Perkins/Ambrose into the cutting.

Lapped traffic really eased the pressure for the Porsche/Campbell. But that's endurance racing.
Well done to the winners, and basically everyone who finished. The top 8 were on the lead lap, and within earshot of winning.

Rossi was impressive - would he be the best to come from (a highly successful) 2 wheels to 4?
Jaxon Evans was great too. Ended up costing his team a podium, but if a gaps is there... you know the rest.

I enjoyed the race for the segments that I watched.

More races to come at PI, Tailem Bend, Ipswich, SMP and back to Bathurst again (which just lost their World TCR main card for that weekend).

Thanks for the topic move, LG :).

On one hand you have probably the best starting base for a project.
On the other, just keep it original, put it in D and drive away. The thing is immaculate - very cool.

What's the old 4.1 do fuel economy wise?
It will be staying original, not lowering or putting other wheels, nothing. It is too good to muck with. One of the big attractions was the fact it is a Fairmont, not a base model, better radio (which works fine), electric boot release, electric fuel cover (rear number plate holder), better furniture, extra lights and speakers, etc

We couldn't believe it when we saw, it is like it had been in a time capsule.  The daughter of the original owner (in her 70's) who we bought it from got it cut and polished, water pump, trans serviced, a few new front end bits and pieces.  They paid for the roadworthy.  We got the air con re-gassed, got the front end aligned and new tyres, tryes on it were dated 2010 and the spare was 1987.

We have driven it about 200 k's since we got it and haven't checked fuel economy - sorry
I'd be doing the same - keeping it as is. Bloody great example.

There's something about those old Italians. I have a similar story (albeit a little newer model).
Picked up my partners Nonno's WL Statesman (2005) in mid-2020.

Standard Alloytec, original 16's (including original untouched spare - as is your case), leather, all the Statesman bells and whilstles etc, fully logbooked Holden service history. 40,000km.
Initially when he offered it to me, I was hesitant to buy a 'boat' - as they're commonly known. Then I hopped in and thing still smelt like new leather. So I kept it in the family, for a great deal too. Those Italians, hey.

I have gone and put a set of Caprice 17" wheels on it, from the same model, but they came 8" wide, opposed to the 7.5" on the standard 16's. And I couldn't help myself, also did the black head/foglight upgrade that came with the Caprice too. Oh... I also took the mudflaps off :).

Being a boat, it teaches you lessons too. Too hot into a corner and it really burns you on the way out, with understeer and no power.

Quote from: Trevor on February 16, 2024, 11:42:51 AMOne of the great Australian tragedy's, losing our car industry.  Governments decided they didn't want to prop up the industry anymore, whereas it happens all over the world
Too right.

And have you been to a dealership recently?
Holden and Ford (and the others whilst here) kept the o/s manufacturers honest in parts pricing and lead times.
Not uncommon for cars to sit at dealerships for weeks, if not months waiting for parts ...and then the bill at the end.
Even the Jap stuff is getting harder.

3rd party conversion companies are borderline. Dodge is having plenty of issues with the RAM.
Issue is the RAM is a baseline vehicle in the States, we import it, pay the tax, then add on the conversion fees, it's $100,000+ by the time you get it on road. All for a US$38,000 truck.

Panels are getting thinner, paint is getting thinner. Panel beaters can barely match colours anymore because from factory they were applied so thin. Australia wasn't immune, VF's were terrible for it (even the W1 in the video above).

Some of the above the blame lies on the over-complicated tech used in lots of parts and of course ways to increase the profit margin (one less coat of paint), so Holden and Ford would've followed suit.
A single headlight assembly for example is commonly $600+ for a factory one (on something Euro). A VY (granted, yes, 20 years ago) was only $200 or so, but you can still buy a factory pair for $650.
Everything is getting 'smarter' however arguably more unreliable - people consider cars with 150,000km on them at the end of their years... what?

The new diesel stuff just isn't the same either. There's a reason all the big 4WD guys stick to their 80's Patrols and Cruisers. Simple mechanisms, easy to rebuild, and parts are everywhere.

Video doesn't really offer much.

Still shake my head that the Falcon and Commodore went the way they did. Great shame.

Jett and Mason moving up. Kai Allen sticks around, as does Murray and Bates.

AIM has quite the engineering team too, with Erik Pender and Adam de Borre.

Jett's Mustang:

Kelly Racing's Mustangs:

Coke still has some Motorsport budget:

And in a PremiAir run car...

Hopefully a Coke Mustang throwback come Sandown.
The simple Castrol liveries are always best. They were always felt overly busy on the FPR/PMM/Kelly cars.

The Coke deal must've come together very late (after the Erebus fiasco), as Randle's suit in the imagery had no Coke branding at all.

Also be funny to see Brodie sitting on the hill at Skyline with a Coke in hand for the first round.
It'd be even funnier if Betty was in the garage drinking a Pepsi.   :D
Betty loves a can of Lift too.

Quote from: muz on February 08, 2024, 07:12:57 AMPure speculation...what if Kostecki ends up in the 3rd T8 wildcard car and puts a full focus on winning bathurst, and then runs the car at a few other rounds too?

Win your first bathurst, do it with Craig Lowndes...would be a big story.
Well this puts 888/Lowndes to bed. What an opportunity for Murray.
Kudos to 888 for sticking to the young guns. Would be easy to put a experienced name in there for the media. Lowndes/Ingall, Lowndes/Murphy, Lowndes/Richards etc.
https://www.supercars.com/news/murray-scores-lowndes-triple-eight-wildcard-drive

Wouldn't be surprised if Adderton did something with Brodie though.

Does anyone really think that after the ****storm that has gone down that Erebus will allow Brodie to drive anywhere else before his contract is finished without massive compensation coming to Erebus?
Obviously depending on the compensation figure, it would build massive exposure for a brand (say... Supercheap) to pay that and get Brodie out there. Might just be worth the figure.

Quote from: AlbertM on February 06, 2024, 08:24:35 PMThe number is for the winning driver. Not the team.
Until there is anything official, BK is still the driver of the No1 Erebus Chev, so running No 1 today is OK.

It is official. BK will not be driving an Erebus Chev until further notice. Pretty sure that was Hazelwood's name on the car. As far as I know he didn't win the championship last year.

It's Brodie Kostecki's number not Erebus'
Being a test day, I think the rules are murky re actual repercussions. It's more a question of integrity/sporting behaviour. Jeff Grech didn't mince his words:
https://www.foxsports.com.au/motorsport/supercars/supercars-2024-erebus-motorsport-makes-disgusting-move-amid-brodie-kostecki-exit-news-latest-update/news-story/8493b63635c0185e2a1b8d61e521ce52

It's always a funny one. The team all won that Championship too, but the circumstance has put the spotlight as Erebus v Brodie and his rights around that.
I'd like to think the organisation as a whole decided to run the #1, not just a single figure.

What's interesting, is that no one else in the team has moved on. If it's so toxic, surely (at least) Commins and Moore would be highly sought after, and would also jump ship? Is it just a driver issue?
If the msn report above is correct and Barry left and returned, it could be a straight up Barry/Brodie issue, as Albert suggests.

Just for the sake of the comparison, as it was brought up.
When DJR did it, they didn't break the #1 regs as outlined in an earlier post, they were running #17/#18. They did break the number layout/sizing rules of Schedule K at the time. Different circumstances and different regs broken.

Agreed, Albert. It's a contractual dispute and clearly an NDA keeping Brodie from saying anything.
If Supercars start fiddling, then they potentially become engaged herein.

Basically the same for the SCT car. New number though, back on a BJR car!
I always wondered why Macca wouldn't take the #21.
