Formula One / Re: F1 2022 season

Yes, although it was a bit farcical with if it was a full race or not with no one really seeming to know.

The recovery vehicle was of a bigger concern, particularly in the rain and at the same track that Jules lost his life.

Was watching something this morning showing highlights from a test at Road Atlanta, It was the BMW, Acura, and the Cadillac all testing. My word they all sound very different (makes sense when you consider the variety of motors) and the lap times were pretty close to what the DPI are currently running.

The real test will be the BOP and how that will then look with the WEC series and particularly at Le Mans if all of the cars choose to run.

I don't suppose anyone knows if anyone is showing the GP. I have seen somewhere that it appears that 7 may have the rights for it??

In recent news Kyle Bush has announced formally that he is off to drive the 8 car at RCR after 2 championships and numerous race wins at JGR.

A big change as love him or hate him he is a name that a number of fans are able to recognize.

Regardless of your personal views of the monarchy it must be said that for many of us it is the only ruler that we have ever had or known of. She has been there through wars, and tragedy all the while leading the UK and the Commonwealth. RIP.

It seems to me that the current scene of Drag racing in Australia is in rather a state of flux with a large group of self interest prevailing over those who are quietly going about their business. Frankly drag racing in my state (Tas) is basically extinct as the last track had shut down a couple of years ago, I do fear for the future of the sport long term unless things turn around soon.

Having two different sets of regs simply add huge costs for people having to make modifications or go through tech inspections for both just to be able to compete makes no sense.

This is to me always an interesting argument, I have to admit that for commuters in cities the idea of electric is possible but for those of us in regional areas it is going to have the big issue of not having charging points to be able to get to and from places. I currently am in a job that can require me to drive up to 600km in a day which, based on the current electric cars is simply not going to be possible as the range is just not there. Whilst I acknowledge that not all petrol cars can do that, the time that it takes to fill up with fuel against recharging which from all reports will take hours.

I know in my own states that the charging stations are available in the cities and also on the main tourist spots but my issue is when you are outside of those areas, how are you supposed to get a top up?

Just out of interest what are the costs of running a S5000 car?

Formula One / Re: New Deal for Aus GP
June 22, 2022, 10:33:38 AM
Hmm, good point, although from looking online it appears that the GP2/3 has used the main pits and just brought in the infrastructure for the particular race. However, in thinking about it, this is typically for events that do not have a dedicated support pitlane.

Does anyone who watches more of the GP2/3 than me (typically highlights on youtube) know how it works with pitlane and those series?

And we have the GP2 and GP3 coming as well as a part of the deal. That in itself will be interesting to see how it works with the support pitlane. I cannot see Supercars getting the exclusive use of the lane like they currently have.

Alpine looks like it could be pulling its team for a few years, looking to downgrade to LMP2 while they work on getting a car done.

the Bykoles/Vanwall entry is completely unknown if it will happen or not, AUDI appear to have shelved their plan, Aston pulled out to go into F1 instead. Also there appears to be a few issues with the Glickenhaus team who may well be running out of money or has issues with the company not being willing to continue to fund it.

The BOP is always a mess frankly. It is a measure that is supposed to create balance between the teams however, it rarely if ever works simple because all cars are built differently so it ends up hobbling some teams and favoring others. I have to wonder if the ASO will look to favor those that run the WEC/ those as Hypercar over those that are LMDH entries or if they will treat them as separate categories?

thanks for that Kytabu. I must admit it is the first time that I have missed the race for a few years now, had family things to attend to.

It will be interesting to see the Hypercar class moving forward as from what I understand from next year Pergot is joining, along with Cadillac, BMW, Ferrari plus a few others that are supposed to be coming however, I am not sure if they are still coming or if they have shelved the program.

There will also be the BOP being enforced which makes no sense to me.

It is also the last year of the GTLM Pro class this year with GT3 coming in next year I think so it will be interesting to see who comes in if anyone.

General Discussion / Re: ALP v LP/NP

Well the election wash up is starting to happen. It was to be honest rather unsurprising that Morrision lost the election. The approach that he had taken appeared to put off a lot of voters in the urban seats that have traditionally been the liberal heartland. The result in WA frankly was a bloodbath. The swing to the independents to me was not as big of a surprise as some were saying. I personally think that it was a case of people not voting for Morrison like last time but being unwilling to vote Labour. I can see it being very interesting long term if this trend continues in that I can see both parties having to govern from minority and doing agreements with the minor parties.

There are real issues within the Conservative slant of things between the Liberal's and the National parties. The Nationals have in my opinion gone to far to get voters from the One Nation, Clive Palmer set and have ignored that there are a good number of people who would be willing to vote for them who do in fact care about the environment and how it affects farmers and their livelihoods. Once the Nationals realize that, which to be honest I cannot see happening, they may well pick up more seats.

As for the Liberals, they seriously need to look at the values that they have. Do they want to be a party that represents the ultra conservatives side of politics or are the willing to be more moderate. If they wish to continue with ultra conservative then they can and should expect a long period in opposition as the vast majority of the population will be unwilling to support such policies. If they are willing to admit that they have failings and be willing to fix them I can see that the party will turns itself around. The biggest issue that it has at the moment in turning it around is frankly a lack of leadership. Many of those within the Liberal Party who may have been able to turn it around are no longer going to be in parliament.

Turning to the Labor Party. To my view it was an interesting result. Fowler proved that electorates do not like to feel that they are being taken for granted and what is a safe seat will not be that way if you try to put whomever you want into the seat. People are far more engaged in politics than what I think the major parties give them credit for. However, the clear win in WA is what will likely give them majority government and is a clear indication that when you are willing to campaign in seats that there is the possibility that they may change hands rather than just leaving the seat alone and saying effectively, you don't matter as we don't think that you will vote for us anyway.

The Greens frankly are the big winners from this election. It shows that inner city voters, particularly those in Brisbane are becoming more aware of the flooding that the Brisbane river appears to become almost an annual occurrence and people are starting to become more concerned about this and are starting to believe that climate change, global warming, whatever term that you wish to use is real and happening now. I personally am on the view that it is a real thing. The only thing that I have no idea on is if humans are causing it or not. However, does it really hurt to use less things from the ground all the time.

The independents in my mind prove that Australian's as a group have become disillusioned with the two major parties. The Liberal's have a major issue with how it represents women and until it changes they are never going to win back those seats in inner Sydney.

So they are my thoughts on the election that was.

You do have to wonder if DR will keep his seat beyond his current contract at the rate he is preforming at the moment.

Both Parties need to look after ALL Australians, not just the ones who will likely vote them in next time.  Labor is further ahead in this than the Coalition.

I agree with you Trev on the need to look after all Australian's however, it appears that it is al short sighted about the next election cycle and what those in the marginal seats want. It should not matter if you are in the most marginal seat in the country or if you are in a seat that is a safe as houses you should be treated as the same regardless.
