Quote from: stp01 on February 24, 2024, 11:07:36 AMJamie has been saying for a while now that technical parity should be used, not on-track results. And he has supported achieving it through testing. I don't see him contradicting that stance in that article.
He stood in the way of introducing technical changes after testing. Then complains that the process is taking to long.
When?

Quote from: stp01 on November 07, 2023, 09:07:40 PMIt would certainly be spicier if 888 hadn't stuffed up in Newcastle.

Or if the 888 brains trust has read the rules correctly at the first event.

Yes, that was Newcastle.

Quote from: madbugger on November 08, 2023, 07:28:27 AMAll RK did was circulate for the year and accumulate points, not a bad strategy in the end, but to come away with the championship without a single win was also an inditement of a points system that didn't give enough credit to winning.

The guy that won the most races that year came 16th in the championship! He did have a rough trot at Sandown and Bathurst though...

Quote from: SetonFan on October 07, 2023, 05:53:37 PMGood demonstration there of the straight line issues for the Mustang with all of them struggling with sectors 1 and 3.
But generally quicker in Sector 2, so maybe a touch more downforce and drag than a Camaro?

Danny and Yuki confirmed at AlphaTauri for 2024! With Marko laying down the law for increased use of RBR parts and collaboration for next year, this could be a much improved team.

Quote from: WarrenK on July 30, 2023, 12:39:36 PMIt is only an unsafe release is 888 weren't the team releasing their car into traffic.
From a video circulating a few sites today.  From about 1.30 into the video.  No consistency with the stewards, especially when 888 is involved.

The rules have been re-written since that incident. With the current rules, Whincup would have been penalised.

Daniel's test must have gone well, great news!

I hope Daniel has driven the AT in a simulator - don't want a repeat of the McLaren years. I guess the team has enough data to know he's still got it. I'm excited!!  Two Aussies on the grid!

The bit that seems to have been missed in the discussion above is that the DSO and stewards considered SVG's pass to be clean:

"Analysis of multiple camera angles and frames is said to have shown that, when the controversial pass occurred, van Gisbergen did not in fact make contact with Kostecki until there was "significant overlap," according to stewards.

Their decision stated, "The footage demonstrably showed that there was no contact by Car 97 [van Gisbergen] with the rear bumper or right rear wheel of Car 99 [Kostecki] as had been suggested.

"Rather it showed that on the entry to turn 6, Car 99 had been defending by staying to the right side of the Race-Track and had then moved left, back to the racing line, for the turn-in for turn 6.

"As Car 99 did do, Car 97 moved up into the space left by Car 99 on the inside of the approach to turn 6.

"Just prior to the apex to turn 6, slight contact occurred between the two Cars at a point when Car 97 had significant overlap on Car 99."

Baird explained, "The onus is on the overtaking driver, but then that transfers once there's sufficient overlap; that transfers a little bit of responsibly back on to the person that's being overtaken."

Also:

"You can't just bump someone out of the road; not at all," he remarked.

"What people don't understand is that, on the passing lap, Shane never touched him [in Turns] 3, 4, or 5.

"He didn't unsettle him to get a run on him; it was a clean run."

Saw a quote from Giz... something along the lines of "defending is ok but I should then be allowed to hit him"
Has someone got the actual quote?  If we're going to have this discussion based on the van Gisbergen/Kostecki pass and SVG's comment (something along the lines of  ::)): "I should be allowed to hit him", maybe we should apply V8 Central's 'Quote your sources' rule, even if that rule doesn't get applied these days. It sounds like something SVG might say, but if it's followed up with an assumption that it "shows a total lack of ability", it'd be good to have the actual quote.

I'm assuming it was this:

"You want to be able to defend your position," said van Gisbergen.

"He was doing nothing wrong with his defending. He was propping me up a bit but there should be some leeway for me to do it in the opposite way, I feel. Yeah, I'm not sure."

Or, the car doing the mid corner propping pays for the damage to the car behind that can't avoid hitting it.
But really, as is the case now, the tapper pays for damage on its own Car. The tappee accepts they pay for damage they receive due to their choice to block.

and when it's not blocking but just the driver behind who can't drive/pass with any level of skill?
You'd have to ask Anton.

On the other hand the 5 kg weight that was added to the Camaro seemed a bit soft, I just hope it doesnt take the whole season to get it sorted.

It was done based on a physical test - I would say that's the exact amount needed. It seems the problems are elsewhere.
To be fair to Supercars and the parity process, to be 5kg COG off at the start is pretty good. It should've been done pre-season (along with min. weight mandate), however they were pretty close. The parity process in this regard works pretty well.

The CoG was very close compared with 2019, it would have been only 1.8kg if the ballast had been placed in the roof like the ZB and Mustang.

100% Zac. Both drivers loved the battle, their reactions after the race showed it. We could be in for some fun this season!
