A lot of people felt the same when Dick Johnson moved from Holden to Ford.

It is a business and if your sponsor says go Ford, then you go Ford (or vice versa). In this case the sponsor is Ford itself.

I suspect that a lot of Holden fans moved on, some years ago, from Walkinshaws to back winners.

I hope t6hey are competitive in gen 3.

I am curious about the Mustang Supercar testing with revised Aero in the USA and whether it has any effect on the Aero of the Gen 3 Mustangs, of which WAU is one of the entrants.
Did you read any of the articles about it? V8Sleuth had the best one that I read.

Nothing at all to do with Supercars or Gen3 or anything.

So they say. V8 Supercars claim to control the intellectual property of the car design.

I did rad the article an that is why I remain curious.

General Discussion / Re: ALP v LP/NP
May 12, 2022, 10:41:10 PM
Without entering the online V8 Central debate, I have now voted by post, as appropriate for an elderly person.

I have been very, VERY unimpressed with schoolboy standard (sorry schoolperson) alleged debating and rhetoric for BOTH PM candidates (and by the media shouting rabble at press conferences).

Fortunately neither of them are contesting my electorate.

Parties are paid from the taxpayer money pool only (or so I understand)  if they get a certain percentage of the primary vote.

As per usual practice, I gave my primary vote to a candidate that has absolutely no chance of reaching that threshold, thus keeping the taxpayer dollars with the Government, then voted for my choice who wont get the cash handout.

On examination, I surmised that my individual vote, either way, would have negligible effect in a seat wit a 7.4% margin.

Then I looked at the Senate. There are 6 seats up for grabs and the ALP and LNP will each each easily get 2 of the first 4.The fifth seat will probably go to the Greens.

so, in reality, the only seat that I can meaningfully influence is the sixth seat.

Chances are, this will be contested by the LNP third candidate, PHON and UAP and that trio order is where I cast my meaningful vote.

It is interesting that electors need only vote for 6 groups or parties above the line, so many votes will have been extinguished before it gets to the sixth seat contest.

PS: The PHON candidate is Pauline herself.

The UAP candidate is Clive himself.

PPS: I am not a fan of Clive but it would be much more interesting for the next years of my life if Clive sits in the Senate with a minority government in the House of Reps.

PPPS (or whatever): The Senate is where it gets REALLY interesting. The House of Re[ps will still be hamstring regardless of whether Tweedledumb or Tweedle-even-Dumber is the PM>

Why would they go to Ford with such a disadvantage? Oh that's right, they are disadvantaged in any brand of car!

Ford special Vehicles mass producing performance Mustang's and Rangers would be the only reason.
Who's buying them though? How many HSV Colorado were sold? How many Camaro were sold? The Mustang is overpriced in standard spec here in Aus/NZ, let alone tuned versions so can't see that being the only reason?

Mustangs here are everywhere.

Walkinshaw will get the entire HSV buyer base plus a fair few of XR8/XR6 nuts that still want RWD cars. Do the sums. Even if they get the same customer base as the HSVs did they'll be turning a decent profit

Yeah sure, they might shift 500 of them a year if they're lucky. That's not mass production.
mass production is not the aim.

PROFIT is king. ;D

Confirmed: https://www.walkinshawandrettiunited.com.au/media/story/2930/wau-and-ford-join-forces/

It seems they were happy to take up some 'factory' support. Which would mean they must be receiving funding or discounted panels etc.

looking at the big gun executives from the USA, this might just be Chapter One for WAU and the Walkies.

Rumour now has it than another team, in addition to WAU, will also shift to Mustangs.

The rumour that MSR would possibly go Ford has been around for a long time, unless you mean a different team.

But, MSR did not fare well in previous dealings with DJR. Remember the Falcon purchases.

It is not unusual for overseas teams to cancel their entry closer to the race, or 2 car teams to suddenly become a 1 car team.

Then there are possible non-starters due to non-cured problems (eg Ambrose Mustang recently)

Add a couple of the drivers trying to move the safety fencing further back or bounce off another car i practice or even pre-event practice.

It seems likely that the starters will be about 15 to 18 and the finishers 10 to 12.

I hope not, but is a huge effort and expense required to staff the racetrack for a single race with a small field.

QuoteBathurst champion Chaz Mostert has called for lifetime bans for Supercars fans found to have engaged in on-line trolling.

The Walkinshaw Andretti United driver has come to the defence of driving standards advisor, Craig Baird, after a controversial call at last weekend's event in Perth.

Baird issued Ford's Cam Waters with a penalty for exceeding track limits, which cost the Tickford driver victory in race 11 of the championship.

Waters was deemed to have gained an advantage when he ran wide during a battle with DJR's Will Davison, and although Waters crossed the line first, he was demoted to fourth after being assessed a five second penalty.

In a lengthy social media post, Mostert backed Baird's call to penalise Waters, and also urged Supercars to come down hard on trolls.

"In this world and in every sport there will be controversial moments where people will sit on either side of the fence. That's just life," Mostert wrote.

"But what gives you the right as a person to target someone and throw aggression/hate and even threats to another person, and to top it off towards someone you personally don't even know?

"And even if you did know them it still doesn't give you the right to do this publicly in person or on any social media platform. What kind of example are you setting for the next generation? I think a pretty awful one."

They certainly made no secret of their displeasure in having to buy goodies from 888. That was the ultimate slap on the face after losing hrt to Roland. For that reason, and the potential to modify Ford products, it's no real surprise. Still big news tho.
Where does Erebus fit in this?

Erebus already build their own cars and the leased Walkinshaw engines are not eligible next year. Seems that there is not much that Erebus could even purchase from WAU. There is also the sponsorship clash.

There seems no current reason for Erebus to change and I seem to recall that they have already confirmed for Camaro.

Wow, talk about carrying a grudge.  :o ::)

This record has not happened and is now a dead issue. Can we please euthanize this thread and move on. :'(

I do not agree with crediting the Walkinshaws with so much of the Holden legacy. Championships were won by the Kellys. Walkinshaws were just a product supplier to others including Mark Skaife. Tom was even barred from running a Supercar Team, allegedly, if my memory is correct.

It seems to me that the Walkinshaw business has made a lot of money producing high performance Holden V8s. Holden has ceased to exist, even if GM does.

So, for a high performance version of a production V8 road car, there is really only one manufacturer that has a suitable car,

Ford and it's Mustang, of course. All others have faded into the world of Nostalgia.

Mustang and Walkinshaw Performance Vehicles (or whatever marketing name) is the only fit.

WAU and Walkinshaw are the best current fit.  :D

All this faith in SVG. A shame Scotty was not afforded the same.

Amusing seeing the championship positions used to justify parity. At the end of 2019, Scotty had both 888 cars behind him, and yet Mustang was clipped again.
Scotty was very good, but, in the top class, he had serious competition from van Gizbergen and Whincup, although Scotty operated at a marginally higher level.

Come 2022, Scotty and Whincup are not competing.

That leaves van Gizbergen clearly alone in the top class. As well as that, he has been training and improving and is getting the lions share of the teams attention without Whincup pinching points.

Take the Giz out and the Fords are dominating and would have had multiple race wins, IMHO.  ;D

It really is a pity that the Giz is not driving a 888 Ford.  ::)

I can't be bothered to research it but I wonder if the results were recalculated without Whincup would Scotty have been so far ahead?
