Repco Supercars Championship / Re: Gen 3
November 26, 2023, 11:29:06 PM
SVG had car problems again today. Throughout the year, there have been a myriad of reliability issue and component failures for most teams, including the factory supported teams of 888 and Tickford.

If they can't sort it out, what hope is there for privateers in 2024.

The new Head of Supercar Motorsport has had a very thorough education in the design and materials problems and his, soon to be, previous team has been active in attempting solutions, such as steering.

Can Supercars please get stuck into these reliability problems as a matter of priority.

PS. I notice ther have been a few engine problems late in the season too.

If in the real world, an organization (promoter) of a competition advertises a prize, in actuality or by long standing tradition, then the winner can reasonably expect to win that prize.

But that is in the real world. In the world of Supercars, in a very short time before the conclusion of the competition, they can simply remove the prize that the winner has worked so hard for all year.

Betty's Erebus won the teams championship, but stiff ****, Supercars say that the yearlong number one pit position, so enthusiastically prize by previous winners, is reneged upon.

Betty Klimenko and team very rightly have a good reason to be pissed off with Supercar management (or should that be mismanagement). >:(

I notice that Ford teams use a variety of dashboards. Is it a free item under Gen 3 rules?

Quote from: AlbertM on November 22, 2023, 12:41:19 AMI'll bet Edwards DOM role has been brewing for some time. And it's the reason he is leaving Tickford.

Burgess badly flubbed Gen 2 and his indifference to getting Gen 3 right, he had to go. Probably got his notice the day he done for DUI. Going further down the rabbit hole. Burgess departure and installing Edwards could have been a condition to appease Ford so they stay in and it's fans. The news has gone down well with the Fordies across social media.

1. I reckon you would lose that bet.

Have noticed Jeromy Moore designed the Gen 3 cars, or so it is claimed in many press articles.

I am not sure that Burgess was there all the way through Gen 3, that went on and on for several years.  ::)

I do wonder why they could not carry over some parts from Gen 2 that were well proven?  >:(

I believe that Jeromy had a large part of designing sports racers in Europe. Maybe he underestimated the stresses of very heavy Gen 3 cars? But he clearly was not the final designer with DJR, 888, Ford, GM and Supercars having an input.

It is to be hoped that all the testing creates more equal cars, but mostly, I want to see less chronic parts failures in 2024.

QuoteThe Prestigious Tasman Cup

S5000 can field only 11 cars and the majority are from just two teams.

Can the class continue to contest the Gold Star Series?

AS I wrote long ago, the driver's market could change depending on Smith and SCT.

Now that he is dropping out, I notice that he has two championships under his belt in lesser classes, so Well-done Jack, but like others you failed to fire at the top. Maybe GT4 becons.

Regardless of his previous obvious talent, he runs a family-owned REC (or whatever they call them now) and it has been placed as a customer on the BJR number 2 team. When one considers that the BJR number one team has not been better than a midfield protagonist in almost all races, the BJR number 2 team, paired with the Boss's son, has been consistently worse.

Good on Smith for giving it a go.

But this raises some important questions:

Will SCT continue to sponsor this entry?

Are there any decent Super 1 drivers available?

Will a promising Super 2 driver be elevated?

Will another SCT supported driver return from racing overseas and give the seat a go?

IF SCT opt out, will the REC be sold?

Could it go to Boost and, if not, who is in the market to purchase?

Will BJR also sell or lease the other team 2 REC and revert to a single 2 car team in Super 1?

There is a lot hanging on this, the only real seat in contention, apart from Macauly's.

Regardless of all the above, I would like to see Brodie take the title.

He has been a superb front running contender.

Erebus have never been more competitive.

It would be really nice for Betty to have the win for Erebus. Betty and her team have been a great competitor over many years and classes.

It is the best way to parity. Get rid of the top drivers, then the midfielders are closer to the front.  ;D

No surprise there.

Let's hope his team manager role goes better than the last 2 attempts?

If we use the last THREE attempts, I think there just might have been a number 18 Courtney championship for Charlie Schwerkolt as the main shareholder in DJR.

The records show that djr won the championship to which you allude.
No mention of Charlie.
You're hate must run deep.

I was defending Burgess.

I was also giving credit to Charlie who was the significant owner of DJR at that time and is often brushed out of history.  Certainly, at the end of that year, I was very disappointed that all the owners decided to dissolve the partnership.

DJR clearly won the championship.

I have known Dick when he was racing long before DJR was created and as a fellow Queenslander I am proud of their long term on track performances and results.

No hate here!

I find it interesting that Nathan Herne says that there is an S5000 running in America.

Quote"There is one S5000 car that has followed me around here in America, racing on the same weekends as I have been in the TA2 Series, and every time you see and hear the thing go around, you remember just how cool of a car they are.

Burgess is tipped as a possible recruit to Team 18.

If some of the comments ON THIS FORUM thar he useless or worse are correct: then team 18 will go backward. Ford teams should be pleased.

Quite unfair.

Only Saturday was FTA, so we missed out on a lot.

They are changing providers next year, so it may be available to you. and hopefully. at least a highlight package here down under if Sunday not FTA. Apparently, viewer numbers are so low that sponsors are complaining about poor viewer numbers.

The Saturday broadcast frequently showed the camping are/parking and lack of Motorhomes, caravans and cars would indicate that trackside views were also down,
