Quote from: Sonic on February 16, 2024, 05:45:50 PMnow that is a find and a half Trev!!!! even the famous rust bucket that is was doesn't seem to have affected this one.

bet you got a big smile on your face :)
they are well known for rust, we can't find any on this one, even had a panel beater look at it. The plenum in front of the windscreen is the worst place for rust - nothing, but I will be making the drain homes bigger and spraying some stuff around in there, gotta pull the guards off to access the drains, but it will be worth it

On one hand you have probably the best starting base for a project.
On the other, just keep it original, put it in D and drive away. The thing is immaculate - very cool.

What's the old 4.1 do fuel economy wise?
It will be staying original, not lowering or putting other wheels, nothing. It is too good to muck with. One of the big attractions was the fact it is a Fairmont, not a base model, better radio (which works fine), electric boot release, electric fuel cover (rear number plate holder), better furniture, extra lights and speakers, etc

We couldn't believe it when we saw, it is like it had been in a time capsule.  The daughter of the original owner (in her 70's) who we bought it from got it cut and polished, water pump, trans serviced, a few new front end bits and pieces.  They paid for the roadworthy.  We got the air con re-gassed, got the front end aligned and new tyres, tryes on it were dated 2010 and the spare was 1987.

We have driven it about 200 k's since we got it and haven't checked fuel economy - sorry

One of the great Australian tragedy's, losing our car industry.  Governments decided they didn't want to prop up the industry anymore, whereas it happens all over the world

We recently bought another car to add to the fleet, a 1987 Ford Fairmont. The intention was to buy this new one and to sell the 1997 Fairmont Ghia, but the prices are a bit sh!t at the moment, then The Minister for War & Finance's car went in for some repairs and she was driving the Ghia around and SHE decided we should keep it, so we now have 5 registered cars for the 2 of us, 3 on club rego and 2 on normal rego, all are Fords except for her Mazda 3

This is a one owner local car, belonged to a Nonno, it has been parked in a shed since 2014, it has done 150,000 k's.  It has been sheded it whole life, ol' Nonno drove it to the shops then put it back in the shed.  I picked it up as it belonged to some relation of my daughter-in-laws (she is half Italian)

My funny experience with (the old) V8Supercars - I used to do the safety briefing's for the V8Supercar teams at Winton, I was also on BAC Committee at the time (BAC owns Winton) and there was a discussion that Cochrane had contacted each of the States Health and Safety Autorities wanting an exemption from the States Health and Safety Legislation as they were a National body blah, blah, blah. Well 'nec minit' WorkSafe Vict has shutdown Sandown citing 'health and safety' issues.  Poor old (dumb) Cochrane never thought that by asking that question it would raise red flags with the Health and Safety Authorities  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D

Victoria last year put mental health etc in the OHS Regulations, so now it is an offence if a workplace puts a workers 'mental health' at risk - workplaces must now have processes in place to manage workplace mental health issues - not sure about other States & Territories as Victoria is still running OHS where all other States & Territories are WHS

Thanks Trev, but it didn't really offer any insights into anything.
I know, I saw him commenting on the culture, I can't seem to find anything about it now.  I said to my wife at the time that there will be **** over his comment, and no I can't find it.  It was at the same interview, he was beside the 888 car

Quote from: Bloopy on February 05, 2024, 09:51:58 PMLatest believable explanation I saw was that working for the team was too toxic. Though I'd kinda have to be in the team to even imagine it. Must be a really extreme case with bullying and so on, given you kinda expect motor racing to be a high pressure environment with people working long hours and tempers fraying etc. Drivers also have the luxury of that buffer where they don't normally even interact with anyone other than their engineer while they're doing their most important work.

Quote from: Zac on December 21, 2023, 06:07:13 AMThat point is debatable, and in SVG's case, he has chosen the lesser money for the better chance of winning before. One choice he made that some love to regurgitate was to not race at all rather than get locked into a non-front running team. FWIW, he is running both the second tier and main series of NASCAR for a total of 40 races, but nobody would think he's doing it for free :o.  (Sheesh! Who brought SVG into this?)
thst would be me, who used SVG purely as an example but YOU decided to make a song and dance about it
