Quote from: AlbertM on December 10, 2023, 10:39:44 AMAero testing is underway in the US. Supercars have put out a vague video as expected. It looks like they are going with post Bathurst Mustang kit. I hope more technical detail comes out eventually.

Gotta laugh though how Supercars are making such a big deal out it. Not only trying to drown out their woeful introduction of Gen3. But are one of the last major categories to test in a wind tunnel.
The teams didn't help either. Teams should have been saying before this year that Gen3 needs wind tunnel testing.
It wasn't until months after pre season aero testing that DJ started to mention it.
Of all the clever engineers you would think...

Only if you ignore Walkinshaw, Edwards, Rushbrook, Adderton....

Yeah he's saying that now.
My point is, NO ONE mentioned wind tunnel testing last year when Gen 3 was being tested.
Until there were arguable issues this year.

From time to time various teams have mentioned wind tunnels for testing of the cars, it certainly wasn't just this year.
This year the cacophony of sounds worked together to create an orchestra.
That was the difference.

a harsh discordant mixture of sounds.

"a cacophony of deafening alarm bells"

You'd be a fool to think it wasn't brought up prior to DJ's spat. Teams had been sending cars to wind tunnels on their own dime before.

Also interesting that you see F1 teams also mixing wind tunnel and on-track testing.

One thing it does come down to, Supercars tries to control EVERYTHING...maybe loosening the grip a little will help the series. At the moment, it is really micromanaged.

What it does, is set a baseline with far more parameters than on track testing. The difference here is Supercars are looking for parity, not aero efficiency like F1 or Indy Car.

CFD supplier D2H has been ditched by Supercars.

https://speedcafe.com/supercars-splits-with-engineering-partner/

Going to a new supplier more familiar with practical wind tunnel testing makes sense.

Interesting comment made was D2H CFD data wasn't matching with Fords own data.

you have to ask how they managed to have 'race ready bits' already prepared? did they go to the US with a whole bunch of stuff as options to throw at it?

AlbertM

They didn't. If you watch the footage you see clay moulding, taped on bits and rough cut aluminium angle used. Since then they would have turned out new parts that would be used in race conditions.

They did, as well as having the extras they made on site.

AlbertM

They took over some bits they prepared earlier. However they did more to the Mustang, such as gurney on the rear wing uprights. The article states they are verifying the more aesthetic bits added to the race car.

https://speedcafe.com/whincup-not-comfortable-with-supercars-engine-parity-situation/

2024's first parity cry. Whincup wants to do away with the parity trigger. The trigger he held to Supercars head to stop Fords aero change for Bathurst.

Laying the blame with Rob Herrod is straight out of line. Supercars dictate the set up of the engines. Herrod just built them.

Certainly a cheeky comment by JW.

Did you expect anything different from him?
If you don't like my comment, ignore it. If you don't know how to ignore it, message me and I will be only too happy to demonstrate how.

LOL! The shoe changes feet lightening fast.

Ford, it's teams, fans were all labeled whingers. But Whincup is just being cheeky.  Getting a good chuckle seeing all the GM fans on the socials demanding speedy parity changes before the season even started.
