I think Scotty proved that the Mustang is a good race car

Scotty hasn't driven this version of the clipped Mustang.

SVG's Commie with a flat spotted front left was holding out easily (until the tyre blew) against the 2 djr Mustangs in today's (Sunday) race.
Mostert was the one driving away easily this time.
"Easily" being a comparative term :).  As hard as it is for some to acknowledge, we're talking about the best driver and car in the field, but I doubt SVG thought he was doing it easily. He was struggling, and the two DJR cars had closed on him, to where the gap on the lap prior to the tyre blowing had 17 right on him and should have been having a go at passing, something he seems reluctant to do with SVG. Meanwhile, ADP was also nursing a flat-spotted tyre.

Davo had only just caught up to him before the tyre blew. It's not as though he caught up easily and sat behind him for lap after lap. The opposite scenario has SVG catching easily, passing and drawing away quickly.

So because DJR has been racing fords since 1980 and Tickford since around 2002 can not beat the Commodores the Mustangs can not keep up with them in race trim but Dave Reynolds driving for a team that has changed hands partly last year and completely this year has finished on the podium 3 times this weekend and had mechanical issues in the last race and had the same speed at the end of the races as SVG and BRT and Tim Slade who started racing Munstangs last year and has a full time team of 5 staff and had 3 of them off last week finished 3rd in the Larry Perkins trophy and in the Friday race started next to SVG in 24th and finished 4th, 1 sec behind SVG so clearly the new Mustang runners can make the Mustangs hold up during race distance

Zac

Good points. Come to think of it: How good does that little Blanchard team go? Makes you wonder about some of the other Ford teams, regardless of whether you're a Ford man, Holden/GM/Whatever supporter - or just enjoy good racing.  :)

Yeah Tickford and DJR are clearly overdriving or the brakes are catching them out.....something has happened! Out of Grove and Slade- which ones look like beating  T8 or WAU to you? Doesnt even look remotely possible to me.....the ZB's are in another zone....

Exactly!!! Other than an under bonnet vent to help with coollnig to the ZB the cars are the same as when Scott win his last championship!! Not sure why people are taking about wing cuts?

where to go from here??? nowhere, wait for Gen 3, SC wont do a parity re-adjust this year with a whole new car coming, season just started they will claim no advantage yet seen, and if one does its too late to change as season over championship wise and wait for the all new cars and see what happens. ie this is just a gap year.

But the parity process remains the same, which this topic suggests isn't working.

Well hopefully it won't be an issue when the two cars are a similar shape with the same number of doors again.

Mustangs have picked up the majority of the 2nd, 3rd & 4th placings so far this year though. Surely they have to hold up well over race distance to achieve that. I think people are getting dazzled by SVG's skills.

Perhaps balls and talent pay a huge part in a parity series

Funny you say money because all the Fordies claimed it was just the Scotty factor

Why do Ford fans insist that McLaughlin winning was the whole reason the Mustangs were "clipped"?  That's a simpleton view. In 2017/2018 he was winning in the brick on wheels (FGX) and there weren't any sweeping changes to slow those things down.

All I ever see on social media whenever SVG wins are Ford fans crying "parity this, parity that", but the reality is the Mustangs take up more of the minor placings than the majority of the ZBs do. If you bother to look beyond to who wins.

Take the weekend for example. In a couple of the races that Chaz and SVG were leading they had a train of Mustangs following them which suggests there's nothing really wrong with the race pace of the Mustang. It's that SVG and Chaz to a lesser extent can find that little extra that no one else in a ZB can do consistently that keeps the Mustangs at bay.

Um, last year, there were 3 good drivers in top spec ZB's, they finished 1, 2, 3 in the series.....this year, there are 2 good drivers in ZB's...and they won every race this year....with ease..the Mustangs wear out there tyres and are no where near as good under brakes and the ZB is still better shape for long high speed straights....it's pretty clear there is a problem....

And so far this year we have a ZB driver leading followed by a Mustang driver in 2nd, then a ZB driver in 3rd, then a Mustang driver in 4th, followed by a ZB driver in 5th. Infact as it stands 5 drivers from each are represented in the top 10 so what else do you want?

You're leaving out a lot of outside factors. Like the fact during the first race at Albert Park DJR were in a position to be 1-2, but they along with everyone else who assumed the soft tyres were the way to go for the end stuffed it up.

We get it. Now "Scotty" isn't here anymore some Ford fans can't stand the thought that SVG is the top dog, but the collective performance of the Mustangs really isn't as bad as pessimists want to think. If it was that bad backmarkers like Jacobson, Smith, Pither etc would be troubling the front.

The COG issue was a fair call. DJR pursued the issue before 2019 only to be shut down. So Mustang played by those rules,  then the COG became an issue for the whole field after Mustang won.

The parity process was compromised when they decided to make untested changes mid season. They claimed that aero is the same for both makes. How can that be when in the words of Larkham they added the weight of a 7 year old (~40Kg) to the ZB. Improvements that ZB still has today. While Mustang was clipped again prior to the 2021 season in an attempt to reduce overall downforce in the field to improve the racing.

I'm getting deja vu all over this season. AU suffered a lack of aero balance, Ford teams went chasing mechanical grip. Even the AU could match the VT/X in quali, jag a podium and the odd win. But over all it was soundly beaten. When parity test sided by side the AU was found to have one arm tied behind it's back.

Having said that, my issue is not actually parity, it's the double standard. Mustang came out blazing, OK it got the COG issue sorted, may have even needed a trim the first time. Mustang kept getting cut down and ZB got improvements. My point is Scotty made the Mustang look like a rocket compared to ZB, especially while 888 literally had wheels falling off  and other self inflected woes. Now the script is flipped SVG is cleaning house, DJR are stuffing up and nothing? No issues.

The whole history of Supercars show that when the Blue oval won there were/are large scale investigations in to parity. The lion won, ho-hum business as usual. While The Mustang was winning, Supercars was alway harping on about "making the racing more interesting", ZB is winning everything, "the racing is fine".  I believe it's why Penske left. He saw the hypocrisy and wasn't going to waste his money.

Yes Yes Yes this is absolutely 100 % correct, my problem also is not so much the parity, "it is the double standard".
It is as clear as day that there is a major issue within this series that just wants GM (Opel) winning races & if we think that things will change with Gen 3 we are kidding ourselves as the issue unfortunately lies deeper & it looks like there is nobody with enough backbone to get anything done about it.
