To me Scotty's description of IndyCar makes it sound like a macho world where it's sacrilegious for men to be seen showing any lasting hurt feelings. Not sure if that's much more healthy than holding grudges. The third option is for drivers to be kind and thoughtful of each other's feelings, but then they start to look wimpy on the TV. They may even go slower based on the theory Reynolds put forward at Winton about dumb drivers being faster, because if he overthinks things he finds he loses time.

But more importantly than that, the amount of money involved changes everything. Pye wouldn't have been nearly as sullen if his damage in WA was a normal occurrence easily paid for with pocket change, with him able to jump into a spare car for the next race rather than being worried about the strain a week-long repair job puts on the team.
